2:40- DC should really learn from fans like yourself.
4:13- It’s stuff like this that brought us most of the ideas from the 1960s Batman TV series, and that was a parody of the comics.
Robin’s only wearing one boot in that one page, ’cause the other is hung over the fireplace like a stocking. Glad ta help. C=
8:37- Thanks for reminding me of the Bad Movie Beatdown review of The Riddle.
13:01- The Silver Age WAS weird. I was first introduced to “A Christmas Carol” by the Mickey Mouse cartoon, and I STILL don’t find it dated, …unlike most aspects of the Silver Age.
15:58- This is like the alchemy machine in Sultry Teenage Super-Foxes #1 that can turn dog poop into gold.
17:21- Minus the “IT’S A CRACK BABY, FOOL!” kind of talk.
20:06- In speaking of A Christmas Carol (or in this case, the lead actor from the 1984 TV movie adaptation that’s loved by many, like myself).
21:27- I guess Big Figure from “Watchmen” was unavailable that week. …I am such a nerd.
This adaptation of “A Christmas Carol” was really weird and unoriginal. Looking forward to the review of “Batman: Noel” next week. Until then, I’ll be watching all the Christmas related episodes of “Batman: The Animated Series” and “Justice League.”

Wow, what a nostalgia rush! You see, once upon a time I had that Christmas with the Superheroes collection (the one you showed not the trade you read from). I adored it! I loved reading every year! And I lost it!! Still bugs me! Ok, enough with the exclamation points. The Titans story was weak, so weak I had forgotten it until this review. Thanks for the memories. The languaga The Titans used back then was weird for sure. If you want a good comic adaption of A Christmas Carol you should check out The Outsiders from the 80's, which is taken a bit more seriously. Awesome review and can't wait for the next one even though I may not watch it until after Christmas.

You know, with all the horrible stuff that happened to Roy Harper's Flash, I have the terrible suspicion that someone at DC really HATES this guy. I mean, first he loses his daughter, his arm, go nuts and goes back to drugs, goes evil, has horrific hallucinations and not to mention his daughter is rebooted out of existence and he wears a trucker's hat that feels out of place with the rest of his costume that is humiliating on him.
I mean, really, is it just me or does one of the guys in charge at DC have a seething dislike of Roy Harper's Flash character?

12.17.2012 - 21:19 | TatsuninSo who was the ghost of christmas present (in the comic)? Aquaman, Robin, or were they both and one was on the other's shoulders. Oh and the deck the halls with boughs of holly joke was brilliant! Is the DC reboot the new One More Day gag, where you won't stop making bringing it up till you actually review it, only the reboot gag is less funny? Also, and this is out of curiousity, why do you not watch the new Young Justice cartoon because it is very great.

This makes me really want to find my copy of that trade again. I really got to find that box. I found my other two boxes of christmas books. Just that one is missing.
I never knew that there was page missing from trade version.
Deck yourself part was really funny.
Looking forward to see how the future thing works next week with Batman Noel. I'm glad someone comment was right about each week being another ghost. I like it.
I know you don't watch tv but I cried of happeniness when I saw her on the Young Justice cartoon. Again why the cartoon better then the current comics and why dc and cartoon probably want gone as quickly as possible. I mean cause Beware Of Batman looks so good. Not!

6:41 - Robin's boot has been 'hung by the chimney with care.'
9:21 - I knew what you were going to do, and it was still awesome.
12:57- Wonder-Chick? There's no way a wonder would take that lying down, even if it was the 60s!
19:31 - You know, it could be interesting to have the Teen Titans interupt a story like A Christmas Carol and accidently ruin the ghosts' plan or something, or make it go in a totally different direction. Or just take the place of the ghosts themselves and copy the story, that's good too.... >_>
21:36 - Okay, I don't know that much about Wondergirl or the Silver Age, and I see she's in a special costume, but isn't she wearing those bullet repelling bracelts underneath?
I love Christmas Carol, but when people redo it, I wish they could be a lil more subtle, a lil more original, than just re-typing word for word the original if you're adapting it to a new venue.
22:17 - THere! SHe totally has them! SO why didn't she use them when they were helpful except when they were a hindrance instead? THank goodness we have a GIRL on the team for us to rescue.. again.. and again...
23:02 - Why did the uh.. anti-trespass gismo go after the Titans only, instead of the 'smugglers' or Tom?
I think 'Mr Big' is just a generic term for a leader of an organization, like a Kingpin, etc, but fiction likes to name Mr Big literally Mr. Big. I dunno.
The Ghost of Christmas Future is supposed to be scary, not leggy and hot.
My primary experience with comics comes from the DCAnimated U, and from what I've seen and heard from all this grim and dark and dirt, I think I could be on the better side. As for Lian and Young Justice (which is very awesome btw) hopefully her existence in that universe will affect the comic universe. RIght Harley?
Nice Christmas Carol, er, ending. ^_^

6:40 "Why does Robin only have one boot?" Because the other one is clearly hanging over the fire place. The other heroes have at leg covered so they might only have one boot on two, with the exception of Superman and Donna Troy. Superman could have just gotten one for himself at super speed and Donna Troy's doesn't seem to be hanging, so it might just not be up yet.

12.18.2012 - 12:04 | sunnyldunno, but I think it was a I think it was intended to be a joke.
All the heroes boots were hanging up.
BTW, Bug Out is an army term, to bug out is to dismantle and evacuate a base camp. They use the phrase a number of times in M.A.S.H.
-
12.19.2012 - 09:51 | sunnylActually its probably because a: the heroes (except for Black Canary) don't appear to even wear socks, let alone stockings and b: it means you can recognise whose is whose.
Although logo socks would probably have the same effect.

12.17.2012 - 22:13 | armagod679Once again, my weakness for Silver Age comics colors my view of this story... but my love for Charles Dickens overshadows it, so I can sincerely say this comic sucks. I read "A Christmas Carol" when I was twelve and it was the best thing I read that year. I enjoyed it as a kid in Muppet form, as a teenager in book form, and now as an adult in any form, so the Teen Titans saying it's not cool really offends me.
I do love what you're doing with it, though. It's original, fun, and illuminates one of my favorite characters of the show. Are you just giving your side characters a plot year-by-year, because last year was centered on 90's Kid and this year is centered on Harvey... will next year be centered on Ninja Style Dancer?
-
12.18.2012 - 12:08 | sunnylany form? you sure?
There have been some pretty atrocious adaptions over the years. Personally I consider the Flintstones version to be the most irritating, though its not the worst.
A Christmas Carol has to be the most commonly adapted work in the history of film, and of all the adaptions, there are barely a handful worth watching.

I really like thats we're getting this backstory on him. Please give more stories about the other side characters. I want Pollo's origin story!

I haven't read any of the DCnU Teen Titans stuff but it looks terrible. You going to review it soon?
I knew the whole Wonder Girl origin mistake story already. Of course I am so egotistical that I fail to comprehend that there might be other watchers here who don't know it, so I will tell you that you didn't need to explain it since I (the only viewer who matters) already knew it.
I wonder, are you going to have an all-new theme song and title sequence for the "future" episode next, and then eventually change to it a few years from now? That would be intrepid.
I admit I giggled at the "deck yourselves" gag.
I'm sadly familiar with that particular comic...
You know I noticed something odd - Aqualad and Wonder Girl are reading comics about their mentors, but Kid Flash is reading a Superman comic... in my headcanon I'm going to assume that off-panel, Superman arrived, stole the Flash comic he was originally reading, and forced him to read his own comic instead under pain of death. Because Superman (especially Golden and Silver Age Superman) is a dick.
Teen Titans animated series sucked ass, and its fandom was (and still is) annoying as shit. Don't be afraid to tell the truth.
Batman was a dick too - he probably beats Robin if he finds him reading anything other than his comics.
Why are you getting upset at what they're saying about A Christmas Carol? The comic is obviously not meaning it.
You mention a magic gun but not your own?
Why did you need to mentioned it was a "superpowered" A-Team as if that was different from the original A-Team? You already discovered that Mr. T has superpowers!
I originally got the idea that the cars and stuff they were selling were new from the start, but the ray just disguised them as junk somehow so they wouldn't have to pay tariffs on them or something, then turned them back. I guess the wheelchair thing blows that idea out of the water.
You know Wonder Girl has superpowers, right? I don't think her legs would get cold.

Yes, Robin's stocking his on the fireplace, but Robin's foot looks like the forgot to color it regardless, since his toes looked fused together, making me think he's SUPPOSED to be wearing boots.
You're probably the first person I've seen criticized the artwork for Red Hood and the Outlaws. Then again, the praise for it is from the same people who also like the story and characters, so I'll take the compliments with a grain of salt.
Glad that you liked the Teen Titans cartoon. Tell me, what did you think of Red X? I would like to see him appear in the comics, but like how Harley Quinn debuted in BTAS before being moved to the comics. The point is, while most people agree that Red X is Jason Todd, he could make for a good character on his own in the comics, assuming Lobdell doesn't write for him.
Although I do have to agree with you talking about the reboot. You're bit about it in the Brave and the Bold review was fine, because you actually gave recommendations (Although I noticed a disturbing absence of Nightwing…), but constantly describing it as "that dumbass reboot" makes it appear like you don't have those recommendations. Is it just like your problem with One More Day, in that for a lot of the books you do enjoy, you just don't see why we needed the reboot to happen? The only purpose of the RHATO rant from what I felt was to take your comments on Twitter and fit them into an episode, while somewhat explaining why you'll review The Culling instead.
Speaking of which, what is your opinion of The Ravagers beyond "It's a stupid name for a superhero team," especially since it's just Rose Wilson's old codename being used to refer to everyone on the team?
ANYWAY, story. I wonder if Harvey is one of your favorite characters to write for, hence why he's gotten this side story. I'm liking it, and it seemed nice to at least cover one adaptation of A Christmas Carol to show how it could be done. I'm especially curious how next week's episode will work. Everyone, prepare for tissue paper, because we'll likely see what happens when Harvey dies.
-
12.18.2012 - 17:15 | SkyExplosionI'm pretty sure he calls it that dumbass reboot because more bad came from it than good. However to me your point is invalid if you like Red Hood and the Outlaws. The Nightwing comic is decent despite his new awful complete lack of logic costume design.
-
12.20.2012 - 12:29 | Phantom Roxas
I don't like Red Hood and the Outlaws. I was going to give the book a chance when I first heard it announced, but as soon as the controversy over the first issue started, I decided to drop it and have been very defiant in checking out the book. Supposedly it gets better (Although if Linkara's opinions are any indication, it isn't by much), but at this point I've just decided to ignore everything with Lobdell's name on it. Putting him on Superman effectively destroyed all chance of me reading any of the books beyond Action Comics.
I like the Nightwing comic, but maybe that's because I have a bias towards the character. My only problem with the costume is that the red reminds me of the Batman & Robin movie, and blue is my favorite color. Once you get past that, it's a good read.

12.18.2012 - 00:16 | MisterCAll these stupid ass retcons is why I've finally given up on all modern day Marvel and DC stuff. I just... find it impossible to care about anything in them anymore since they don't matter. I pretty much just stick to the more independent publishers now. Wouldn't be surprised if I'm not the only one.

I once read "Who is Donna Troy" and it mostly made sense. Then they had to come out with "The Return of Donna Troy"; which confused the hell outta me and they once again changed her back story to BS about her being a godess or some crap.
Of all the DC heroes/heroines only Hawkman has had a more confusing backstory before the NEW 52-verse.
Note to any future superhero comic writers re: the orgin of the hero/heroine: Just pick ONE idead and stick with it, jeez.
-
12.18.2012 - 09:16 | Linkara
Her origin has unfortunately been revised a few times due to the various reboots. Her first origin was great. Made sense, everything was okay.
...buuut then Crisis on Infinite Earths happened. And BECAUSE Crisis on Infinite Earths happened, they revised it so that Wonder Woman was only JUST entering man's world and thus she couldn't be the one to rescue her from the fire. They revised it so that she was raised alongside a group of other children by the Titans of myth. Okay, fine, makes sense.
But various writers along the way were pissy about that and decided they wanted the old way back, so they started adding and adding and adding and making it more convoluted. I argue that her origin is easy to streamline in simple sentences, but it's still made very confusing for people because of how much happened. As a result, many stories are so busy trying to explore her backstory that they forget to just tell good stories with her in them.
I'm calling it now, Harvey's at his son's grave. NC said it last time, and the Ghost of Christmas Present said it this time.
