01.12.2009 - 14:58 | OeskesI love this series! I don't have any criticism and I guess I've just been lucky but I've never seen these. I used to be too poor to just buy indiscriminately without badgering my boyfriend(s)* about which comics really sucked, and now I'm too cheap.
I almost wish that there were occasional reviews of comics that don't suck? Maybe a "Best Of's" or a "Classics" review from time to time?
*(In my day, a girl didn't buy comics on her own. Even now I still only go to stores with a male escort. Lame, I know. I know.)
Okay, and if someone--anyone, if Linkara doesn't read this or doesn't have the time--could just clear up a couple things: Wally West was referred to by Linkara as The Flash. Obviously I know he does hold/has held that title, and that at certain times there's occasionally more than one Flash in operation, but don't they usually use different names when that happens? Was there a Flash on the Justice League when this was going on? Did Wally join both teams? He's fast, but he ain't that fast. Although Wolverine can do it, so maybe it's not that out of place.
And one more: forgive my ignorance of DC, but in the panels showing the actual Teen Titans, I saw the current Robin, I saw what appeared to be a young, female Deadshot (that's a new one to me...) and then I saw some flying blond chick, with what appeared to be Wonder Woman's eagle symbol on her chest, but a color scheme more akin to Aquaman. The result of an unholy pairing I wasn't aware of? (I'll need to update my dossier on gill boy...) Or just someone I've never heard of?
Usually when there's more than one Flash they go by first names. Barry Allan, the second Flash, has recently come back to life but that hasn't been felt across the rest of the DCU so far. Wally West pulls double duties on both teams and he's done it before back during Devin Grayson's run.
The "Deadpool girl" is Ravager, AKA Rose Wilson, the daughter of Deathstroke the Terminator.
Blonde with Wonder Woman eagle is Cassie Sandsmark, AKA Wonder Girl. Her second-most recent costume has her wearing jeans.
Who is Donna Troy? And whe was the Flash a Titan?
See above with the Flash, but he also was one of the founding members when he was Kid Flash.
Donna Troy has a looooong history and kind of a complicated one, but summed up she could be considered Wonder Woman's sister/former sidekick.
Yes, but you may do as you wish. ^^ And actually the series has gotten a thousand times better with more recent issues. Somebody must've finally hit Winick with a clue stick.

Great review as always!
@Headband
Donna Troy is someone that was rescued and trained by Wonder Woman and even took up the WW mantle for a short time.
Wally West was actually one of the founding members of the Teen Titans as Kid Flash. He took up the Flash mantle when Barry Allen dies. Bart Allen joins later joins the team as Impulse. Wally West disappears, Bart Allen becomes Flash, Bart dies, Wally comes back, and is now the Flash again. And through all that, Jay Garrick is still alive and well. :)
Edit: Linkara beat me to it :(

I'm not much into comics, but you have an uncanny ability to keep me fixated to your videos. You are very funny and your videos are very well done. You have serious talent.

Hey first I have to say hislarious review.
Anyway since you said you're taking suggestions and if you're willing to try reviewing a manga series I have just the series to suggest. The sCRYed manga. Now I don't know if you're familiar with the sCRYed anime (I know it was on Cartoon Networl for a while), but that's one anime that I'd reccomend to a fan of superhero comics since most of the series has an appeal similar to that of X Men and most of it's characters have pretty cool personalities and powers (not to mention unqiue kinds, like one guy, Straight Cougar, my personal favorite character, can turn any car into a pink Batmobile).; you should be able to see the whole series on youtube. But anyway enough about the anime which is good overall (though it's ending kinda sucked), the manga however is a total trainwreck of a series, basically everything about the anime series that was cool was changed into something incredibly lame and generick, the storyline is abyssmal (and the jokes they insert aren't funny), and the art seems to switch between being good and sucking constantly.
Here's a link to a review of the series, both anime and manga:

Oh yeah one last thing, you can find the manga for sale at amazon for mostly 10 cents a volume (there's only five volumes just to let you know) so you won't waste much money on it.

01.12.2009 - 16:11 | PhunkyPhazonYou want bad comic suggestions? Check out Marvel Team Up Vol. 1 #10. It stinks like the inside of a buffalo.

01.12.2009 - 16:41 | BallsMonkeyDude I got news for ya. It's not just the first 4, the whole series is still terrible.
And the art has, believe it or not, actually gotten worse.

OK, not being an avid comic reader, I have to ask...
Is the only time that many full-page spreads worked was during "Superman" #75, during his climatic "Fight to the Death" with Doomsday?
Mr. Linkara, opinion on that?
As for cleevage and nudity...eh, that comes with comic territory these days, it seems. Maybe I'm numb to it because I'm trying to get into AC Comic's Femforce once I get money enough for it.
Oh, and for bad comics? Being a wrestling fan, I humbly suggest the old WCW Comic Book, if you can get your hands on it.
-
Why don't you take a look at the doom comic? The whole thing is an abomination of sequential art with lame 'dialogue', bad art, and a completely random environmental message. You can find it here: http://www.doomworld.com/ 10years/doomcomic/

Sad thing the first issue was the better one of the arc. UGH. Then there was this horrible delay on all the books. Now I never read the following arcs cause of this trash. I had better time reading Young X-men and honestly that isn't saying much.
Now for the suggestion, I suggest Young X-men. Any of them.

Yep. The X-Men and Teen Titans crossover did happen. I have the story in the Marvel/DC crossover classic and if I'm not mistaken, it involved Darkseid and Dark Phoenix. I know the Warriors and Titans never met. Not even during Marvel vs DC in the mid 1990s. It would have been cool. Alas, it won't happen now as DC doesn't want anything to do with Quesada. Gee. I can't imagine why...
I'll look up Judas Contract. Thanks!

As a marketing gimmick, there was a specific amount of panels devoted to each issue leading up to Superman #75, which was ALL full-page spreads (issue right before it was two panels per page, issue before that three panels and etc.). I give Dan Jurgens credit for being able to pull off a story despite the restrictons, but at the same time it's often awkward. It's called "sequential art," not "pin-up art."
Haven't gotten around to the World of Warcraft one yet because I need to find the right place for it.

Issue 5, IMHO, was actually really GOOD, with Starfire and Nightwing actually having a mature, emotional conversation about their relationship and Beast Boy being funny. Issue 6 took a nosedive, but it went back up again with the Jericho stuff, since it's not really him. Plus the teammates actually are friendly towards one another and trust each other and aren't jerks, which put it leagues above a lot of Sean McKeever's work on Teen Titans (though that seems to have gotten a little bit better in the most recent work).

And I think it's also interesting to note that in a comic about the former Teen Titans growing up and becoming adult heroes, the creators still felt it necessary to throw in cameos by Green Lantern and Batman. Maybe they fit, Lantern with the Countdown continuity you mentioned and Batman cause Nightwing was in Gotham at the time, but it still seemed a little too much like "Hey, look, the big guys are totally throwing their support behind this team. That makes them cool, right? RIGHT?" God forbid they try to let them stand on their own now. I mean, it makes sense for the adult heroes to show up in TEEN Titans, partly because most of the teens are younger versions of the adults, and partly because they're still young and need help/guidance sometimes. But as I said, this is supposed to be the GROWN UP Titans. They aren't supposed to need help from the Justice League. They're supposed to be their own entity, not the freaking B Team.
Okay, and if someone--anyone, if Linkara doesn't read this or doesn't have the time--could just clear up a couple things: Wally West was referred to by Linkara as The Flash.
