The version of Batman he created in DKR was a big guy who punched things and wasn't much of a detective.
the modern version of Batman was pretty much created by Grant Morrison in the JLA relaunch, a very smart guy who could fight very well, but more often used his brains.
So, the modern Batman has very little in common with what Frank Miller wrote.
-
Grant Morrison was very integral to the modern batman character, but Frank Miller created him. He made batman the dark superhero we know and love, while Grant only integrated already established ideas. Batman was always a calculating detective and an amazing fighter, ever since the golden or silver age comics, so those ideas where combined into batman by Grant. But Frank Miller pulled a complete 180 and turned batman from being a joke into possibly the most famous comic superhero.

I don't know if you could even call what they did a "team-up" so to speak. I mean, in the usual teaming up comics the two superheroes will quickly overcome a disagreement and agree to work together combining their powers and strengths to overcome the villian. And that is even in the case of team-ups that involve the superhero and thier villian working together. Sure there is still that tension between them but its usually held off until the goal is complete.
With this one I had a feeling that Batman just didn't want to "play nice with the other superheroes" vibe. I mean, really, another line with him making a jab at Clark Kent/Superman? Neither one (in the Frank Miller adaption and other comic book adaptions) have shown a REASON for either one to have a falling out. And from the looks of it the whole "Batman v Superman" thing seems to be pretty much one-sided from Batman's standpoint in my opinion. We are offered no more a reason for Batman's sudden personal attack against Superman other than perhaps its just a huge ego thing which is stupid in itself.
Honestly, this seems to be a running theme with Miller in the Batman comic books he is making along with creepy pedo-implications.

Frank Miller is an Ass who for some reason hates other superheroes that do not dress up as bats and call people retarded. Yeah, why would we want a Superhero to aspire to be in terms of morality and selflessness?
God, I hate Frank Miller with every bone in my body. ... DKR is overrated. sorry. Frank just really pisses me off when he ruins the characters that we have all come to respect. I mean cops.

I know. It's a thing that many bad writers do to try to "pay tribute to" Batman since he's their favorite by saying he's better than other heroes and can beat them in a fight, when quite frankly Batman's a strong enough character that he can show this fine enough with his own villains.
Soo... yeah, it's basically a pissing contest they do using Batman against other characters who are written to be less effective heroes because they aren't Batman.
Miller is the worst offender since he writes every other character horribly and in this one it pissed me off at how he screwed Spawn over.

06.13.2011 - 22:14 | OmnicromThat's because the Japanese word used there can also mean "Together With" or something like "And Also".
And yeah, the comic completely derailed when Frank Miller stopped writing Batman as an intelligent detective ninja and started writing him as Crazy Steve the kung-fu genius messiah.

The very first DC graphic novel I ever picked up at my local Barnes & Noble was Miller’s “Batman: Year One,” and since then, I grew a bigger interest in the DC Universe with more Batman, Superman, and the Justice League.
I find it both funny and awesome that you came prepared with 2 Star Trek alcoholic beverages. And this is coming from someone who's turning 25 next month, and has never drinked in his life (and maybe for the best).
4:35- Uh, Frank, wrong comic universe. Batman’s not a member of the Avengers.
The high-tech weapons being sold to street gangs thing sound like this should be in a Superman story, and the gangs are from Metropolis’s Suicide Slum.
The villainess of this comic is as subtle as a Captain Planet villain.
At least the narration of this comic isn’t like that of The Warrior comics.
17:28- Never mind.
14:30- My answer on why she knew that Batman was is town is “CHEESE!”
22:12- Honestly, Frank. You should have just stopped writting Batman after this.
I actually find the premiss of a Batman/Spawn team-up awesome, but it's hardly focused on in this tripe.

I like the fact that Miller tried to have Spawn bury the hatchet with Batman but Batman snaps at him like a belligerent child, refusing to change his views on him. Its like he's simultaneously trying to make Batman out as this awesome god amongst men but at the same time, this immature brat that's as stubborn as a republican mule.
Ah, sometimes I wonder why Miller even tries...

I like the bloodwine and Aldebaran whiskey: you are SUCH a Star Trek geek. I love it. God help me, I do love it so.
-
06.13.2011 - 19:40 | McNinjaSpeedy Eric: Frank doesn't mean the team the Avengers. He means avenger as in one who takes vengeance.
Also, a glove like that wouldn't be able to afford batman any more power. Unless the glove weighed like 40 pounds, which would also make Batman really tired. There would have to be a robotic arm attached to the glove which would propel the heavier glove at a much higher speed.
I love Miller Time. It's fun watching a writers descent into madness. Not really. It's like a train wreck. You just can't look away because what you're seeing is just so horrible it boggles the mind.

You know, I noticed this in my collection recently while looking for other books and thought "Would this be a good book for Linkara?" (Is it sad how many times I think that looking through my comics? Or for the Critic looking at DVDs in my collection or at the store?) I didn't think so at the time but now I can't wait to see this video.
Edit: Yeah, this book was probably cooler when I first read it. What I see here, I'm going to totally agree with. Maybe I'll go reread War Devil.
-
That was painful to read. }
You know... The mind boggles. What the hell happened to Frank Miller that turned him into this joke?
No, seriously. I'm curious. Yeah, some of his stuff from before his fall from grace is of... Dubious quality. Still, he did some great stuff. Good and interesting stories that make stuff like this all the more painful...
Does anybody know what happened? Any explanations or insights? Because I'm lost.

06.13.2011 - 20:18 | albinotanukiSo, why have a superhero team-up if you only like writing about one of the characters and not the other? It would be like me doing a crossover of Avatar: The Last Airbender with Jersey Shore when I don't even watch or give a crap about Jersey Shore.

06.13.2011 - 23:23 | albinotanukiSo... MacFarland was okay with having Spawn be overshadowed and clobbered by Batman as a way to glorify Miller's egotistic fandom for the Dark Knight? Well that's pretty lame.

Wait wait wait. There was one line of dialogue that said Batman has almost no blood in him. I'm only 15 but i'm sure you can't run out of blood that fast unless you're dead or had been stabbed in the heart and brain. and Batman has only a few places where he's bleeding. If i'm wrong then feel free to correct me.
-
06.13.2011 - 22:16 | BooRat
You can bleed out very quickly with certen injuries, but you'd passout after loosing 2-3 pints of blood and it doesn't matter how badass you are you'd passout that enough blood lose your brain can't function normally and after 4-5 pints your heart will stop! your body only holds 8-9 pints based on the adverageof human adult body size! But,I'm sure Miller ment that as an exsajeration!

You know, when a Batman/Spawn crossover makes Spawn look like he's well written compared to Batman, you know something is effed up. Also, Spawn being a crap fighter? As If! The guy's a former Special Ops guy, with elite-level martial arts skills on top of the low-level super-strength and endurance. Batman shouldn't even have come close to being a credible physical threat.
