Dedicating these awful comics to legends in the comic industry seems more of an insult than anything. A true tribute would be in the form of something that the person envisioned while the were alive...or at least a good comic.
And, is it me or does the lines coming out of Mad Max's character remind you of the crap Counselor Troy used to say on Star Trek that made you question why the hell she had a chair on the bridge?

I'm late in replying :D
Troi and Seven were made like sluts to me (expecially becuase they were stuffed into cat-suits), and their dialog was boring. When I first watched TNG, I thought I'd like Troi. But she seemed like a obsessed ex-girl friend with Riker and tried too hard to keep her mother off of Picard (which he could kick ass himself, thx) But I agree. Seven at least went on away missons and was pretty bad ass with a gun XD

A character named Maxwell Edison and no references to him majoring in medicine or him bringing down his silver hammer on heads until dead? I am disappoint.
Now, concerning the name of your new ship. Here's my suggestion. You reviewed a Doctor Who comic in the same video, yes? Given your own use of sonic screwdrivers, does that not make you the equivalent, or "response," to the Doctor in our universe? Does that not make your commandeered Vice flagship your "response" to the Tardis? If so, I think it should thusly be called "RE:Tardis"! :D
...Why are you looking at me like that?

I am in total agreement about the missed Beatles joke. Even if it is completely obvious, it would still have been a nice touch.
Regarding the "license" misspelling, maybe the writers wanted to invoke that good-ol-fashion British variant of replacing "Ss" with "Cs", in an attempt to make their trashy comic look high-cultured.
What's that? Oh, the British spelling is "licence"? Well in that case, it's just poorly proofread trash.
BTW, that space organ you had trouble pronouncing is probably just a synthesizer. You know, the electronic instrument. :)
I myself have just started watching old "Doctor Who" serials out of curiosity. My run's starting with the Third Doctor due to the fact it was the first IN COLOR! No disrespect to the first two, of course. And I'm almost finished with season 7; I still just need to watch 'Inferno' in order to complete my test run.
If the 7th Doctor is you're favorite, would that mean Ace is your favorite companion? If so, it makes sense, considering she BEAT UP A DALEK WITH A BASEBALL BAT!!! Awesome.
Also, I loved the flute piece that played when you and Liz were gloating. Some pretty shoddy green-screen effects at the end though, maybe Joe can help with the Vice background? He seemed to have it understood.
Wow, that was a lot out of me. I may not comment often, but when I do, I prefer getting all my thoughts out at once.
Say thirsty my friends. *wink*
P.S. The Entity is a woman. CALLED IT!
-
02.15.2011 - 01:17 | Linkara
To be perfectly honest, I don't think I've ever heard the Beetles song that people keep telling me I should have referenced.
The shoddy green screen was only the one part, which even then we reshot because now matter what we did, it kept coming out blurry for some reason.
The Entity is genderless, actually. XD

02.24.2011 - 00:09 | BagOfMagicFoodI thought it was saying "Melvin" back in Elite Force, and Melvin Brother of the Joker had a strange voice crying "Melvin" every so often, so I got the idea that The Entity was Melvin's mother!

Blurred green screen effect is noticeable, but the battle and continuation of the plot your came up with were awesome!
Truth be told though, I was kinda surprised you and Iron Liz didn't act out a more celebratory moment at the end.
Idea: You two dancing to Harvey Finevoice's redition of a Popular song, and 90's Kid acting like a goof ball in the background. lol

-Youngblood #3-
I was hoping you would review Youngblood #3 for part 1 of this years double feature special.
JOE SCHUSTER!?!?!?!?!? Goddamnit to Hell, Rob, do you even know what the words “respect” and “dedicate” even mean!?!?!?!?!?
11:06- Je$u$ Chr!$t, Rob. Just …please …stop it!!! If you look up the word “plagiarism” in Webster’s Dictionary, you would find you own redneck head!
Shaft of Youngblood is NOT popular. I only knew shaft since I was first introduced to this show exactly a year ago.
11:54- Also, does that visor doubles as a boomerang?
Thanks for the cameo, Ted. It was just what was needed for a comic of this caliber.
The Foot Ninjas from the original Ninja Turtles animated series were also purple, but I get what you’re sayin’.
EPIC ENDING! Now, to watch Part 2.
-Doctor Who Classics #7-
I haven’t watched any of the Doctor Who series, but it IS interesting that you’re reviewing a Doctor Who comic. Also, I wonder if the advertisement of “Star Trek II” on the back is coincidental.
The teddy bear thing reminds me of the scene in “Mulan” where the titled character finds a little doll in the snow of a Hun attacked village.
Melanicus’ head look like a cross between that of a lion and the Creature of the Black Lagoon.
I wondered if you were gonna make a Thunder Dome joke, and it was well worth it.
Awesome conclusion of the Lord Vyce story, Lewis. I am also very impressed that the big secret is Dr. Linksano as a double agent.
I can’t wait to see what The Entity is and looks like.

I started with Eccleston myself. Since Rose doesn't know anything about The Doctor, they use her ignorance as a way to catch up new viewers on the way the show works. You'll be fine.
I've just recently bought some of the first Doctor's serials. They are pretty good in a grainy black and white 60's kind of way.

02.14.2011 - 23:52 | SeraphemOh hell yeah that was great, (if only it could have come out yesterday it would have been better, but I guess it's still close enough for it to count as a great birthday event) I'm almost a bit bummed that there aren't any bad Doctor Who comics, just for more chances for it to be on the show.
As to the Vyce finale, amazing, not quite as much action as I was hoping for, but the whole out thinking him and beating him that way rather then just brute force and/or some new uber-weapon, was great to see. like I said, it wasn't quite what I was expecting, but even better for being so, it was just non-stop epic, (ok only thing I didn't really get excited about was Liz's morphing sequence, it was great, but I have no idea what it was from, if I knew what she was talking about, I'm sure I would have loved it even more) but that aside you two worked great together and I loved seeing the two of you fighting together.
Oh and by far the best part was when the 11th Doctor's theme started, there is no situation that song can't make a hundred times more epic.
Now to wait and find out what's going to happen with the "entity", also nice twist, I was sure the weird sound we heard when ever you defeated someone related to Vyce was, well connected to Vyce, not the entity.
wait, now that I think about it, have we ever seen Monroe and Nija-Style-Dancer in the same place?

Corellon Larethian is the main Elvish god in the Dungeons & Dragons books:

02.15.2011 - 00:08 | lidoegBrilliant move, he turned Vyce into a plot device for later stories. Personally I'm hoping that the entity is gonna have something to do with whatever epic war of the rings is building at spoony's site, I mean Linkara's the comic book guy but the corps are debuting on his site? You know some kind of cross over is coming (also Turl is so gonna be orange)
-
02.17.2011 - 18:32 | Semudara
Crossovers with Spoony have always made Linkara's continuity that much more epic (example: the Warrior review allowing Mechakara to show up in this universe), so I kinda hope you're right. At the same time though, I've completely lost track of Spoony's continuity, so if they do cross over again I would be confused out of my mind. >_

I thought that was a Mandalorian helmet. I can see why you would think that it is a Power Rangers helmet, but I don't recall any power rangers helmets that have the T shaped visor.
11:40
I take that back. The Mandalorians should not be mentioned on the same sentence as this woman. This is a disgrace
-
02.15.2011 - 01:36 | e33lafIt's about time you took on a Doctor Who comic Linkara. Hopefully we'll see you review more of them in the future now that you, Liz and the gang have taken care of Lord Vyce…or have you …
P.S. Synthesiser is just the British spelling of Synthesizer. They’re spelled differently but pronounced in the same way. Also, Gloucestershire is actually pronounced GLOSS-te-SHER. Again, you can just chalk that up to another case of a word being pronounced completely differently from how it's spelt.
-
Nice job tearing Youngblood #3 apart and pretty cool fight scene. I love the big reveal of what your secrete weapon was *not going to spoil it for those who haven't watched it yet*. So now that Vyce is delt with what's the next story line? I hope you don't end up becomming evil because that would suck. Are you going to review Any crossover comics like the ones with Marvel and DC, or Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe? What will you do with Vyces ship?

I really don't know what's the most awesome about these two reviews. I have to say you calling Vyce out from the first was awesome. But the final attack was also great. But I'm surprised with the ending... Vyce in exile and that weird stinger... I think I know what the next story arc is.
But to be honest, I realized that Linksano was a double agent. it wasn't one of those things I saw a mile away, I figured it out today after much thought. But still... it still was a pretty good twist with him being a double agent. Good job.
Oh and one more thing:"Poor literacy is... for people who can't spell very well."
That was a good twist on a good running gag.

Alrighty, shut it down. We can close the internet, the contest is over. Lets all give a big hand to all our contestents, they put on a terrific show. But here we stand, at the end. Linkara, Let it be known on all servers, websites and chatrooms from here to the farthest reaches of the Net, that you sir, have won the Interweb.
-
02.15.2011 - 00:45 | DrahaukFew things about the Doctor Who review for future reference:
It's the British spelling, as will any word you come across which uses an S instead of a Z.
Oh, and Gloucestershire = Gloss-ter-shire
The Doctor Who budget was essentially just pocket money when compared to some of the other shows around at the time, hence why there were quite laughable effects and thus (In my opinion) better stories because there was effort placed in substance instead of style.
Yeah, I've been kinda disappointed by how this revamp hasturned out, if simply for certain aspects included feeling completely ridiculous or unnecessary.
Anywho, with William Hartnell's departure it was less of a free descision and more of a necessity because he was quite severely ill (suffering from arteriosclerosis which affected his memory) and having issues with the production team.
Oh, with regards to its cancellation, that is essentially because the BBC Director General at the time hated Doctor Who and went out of his way to ensure that it would get low ratings and thus have to be pulled because it had become the money sink he deigned it to be.
Ironically despite being an American production the TV movie did worse with American audiences than it did with British.
Apologies if any of this seems like a lecture, I'm just a very long-standing English fan who's watched every incarnation of the Doctor, though some more than others.
For the record Battlefield is one of my favourites too, especially as in the scene in which Ace is trapped in the water chamber, I can't remember the exact details but Sylvester McCoy noticed a problem and effectively saved the actress' life, thus for that moment becoming a real-life hero.
-
02.15.2011 - 00:44 | Critic Fan JillPersonally I got a lot more of an 'epic' feel from the Mechakara fight. This was still great though. I can't wait to see Vyce's return.
-
02.15.2011 - 00:44 | ThatGirlWithTheFangs
*Is geeking out from all the Doctor Who* XDDD
By the way, in England "synthesiser" is spelled that way. So are similar words, such as "realise." I don't know why it is, but I figure it's because Americans were lazy with the original grammar and decided to replace the s with a z. *shrugs* It is what it is.
So then, what is this entity and how will Linkara defeat it?? Tune in next time to find out! Can't wait! :D
-
02.15.2011 - 03:54 | Flaregun
Americans replaced the the s with a z because we decided it looked cooler, specifically it made it just a tad more EXTREEEEEEEMMMEEE!!!!!
What? you think Liefeld invented "Because poor literacy is KEWL!"?, We been doing it since Noah Webster decided to Americanize the shit out of word spellings in his dictionary in 1828.
-
02.16.2011 - 00:08 | trlkly
But he didn't do it to be cool. He did it because (1) at the time it was a somewhat common misspelling and (2) he was still mad at the British and wanted to pick the spelling that they said was wrong.
Remember that, less than 200 years before, the idea of standard English spelling didn't even exist amongst most people. The King James Bible was the first book to start cementing spellings even amongst the poor (as that was often the only book they owned.)

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!
