No I don't. Inside of the time shield things are moving faster than outside of it. From the point of view of the ship, things occurring outside of the shield appear to be moving slower.
It'd be like if I developed super-speed. From my point of view, everything would suddenly appear to be much slower.

Why is it the Green Lantern that always seems to have the problems? Many of the comics you review always seem to designate the Green Lantern with the problems. I'm not a fan of the Green Lantern, but good night:
JLA-Act of God series: GL is a depressing, unimaginative, neglectful, and nihilistic human being (not to mention a crappy boyfriend).
Justice League: Cry for Justice series: GL is an awful human being with a Rorschach-esque outlook on law & order, who tortures criminals to appease his own skewed moral outlook.
Why do you think the DC comic writers always signal out the Green Lantern as the spur for non-heroic behavior and indecent human nature?
-
01.11.2011 - 14:08 | JollyGoth
I think they just keep giving the books to people who can not write good science fiction. To use green lantern well you need a sci-fi writer. The green lanterns should have to deal with more than human issues, but they continually give Hal and the others 'humanizing' issues. The GL-Corp should be out fighting Cthulu type threats in space. Not torturing criminals for information!
I blame it squarelly on the writers and editors.

"Days or weeks could pass and it would only be minutes on that ship" starts at 0:50
I would say the people who have been telling you that you are wrong all day are right. Especially since you then go on to say that exactly the opposite of that.

I think you meant to say that minutes go by for us, and weeks go by on Vyse's ship. That way, he'd have time enough to perceive and destroy the missiles/satellites before they touched him.
AlsoJUSTICE!
JUSTICE! Now in new flavors like Chocolate, Watermelon, and Socket Wrench!
And try new DIET JUSTICE! For those of you who want the taste of JUSTICE while still maintaining that slim waistline that, assuming your bust is actually that big, should probably have snapped like a pencil by now.

Inside of the time shield they are moving faster. However, they can perceive outside of the shield and since they are moving faster, everything else outside of the shield appears slower to them.
It would be like if I developed super speed. Everything around me would appear slower from my point of view.

You know I've been waiting for this, and I'm not even really a comic book fan.
It was by the powers of yourself and Spoony combined which made me read Transmetropolitan, and i think i have a new found respect for comic books that i really didn't have before.
Thanks for the video.

By the way, I think torturing someone who turned out to be Clayface, therefor rendering the whole process moot, was kinda the whole point of the trap, the plausibility of said torture not revealing Clayface's Identity(what with his innards being made of whatever the hell they are made with), resting on whether he can completely mimic the human body, to the cells(serves them right for torturing someone).
But I have to ask, why? Why mindwipe them instead of simply killing them off and be done with? It's more honest, easier to be done with, and less likely to have negative reprecussions in the long run. Also, no, eff due process. Due process is for the criminals that the police CAN catch.

This is why I hate series like this--and why I hate the "Big Two" (which are rapidly becomes a couple of Big #2's, in my opinion): what to do with a bunch of low-tier characters? Kill them.
They turned Helix from the maybe-villains they were in the 80's into ruthless thugs...and now they're dead.
They now killed off Global Guardians...though I'd love to see the battle where the villains took down Seraph, given the source of his powers.
It's why I don't bother with the main books of either company: any character I happen to like will probably be killed off simply because the editorial departments are too pants-on-head stupid to hire a writer that can use the characters well.
Indies now and forever for me!
-
01.11.2011 - 11:11 | KariSigh. The problem for me is that for every series like this one that butchers decades of continuity as well as countless characters, there's a good run that I loved. I've found that it's a better idea to read the books about "B listers". Seems the writers have a bit more freedom and less inclination to just worship Batman or something.
In general I'm right there with you, though. I prefer books that are now and have always been handled by a consistent person or team. No editor also means no editorial mandate. The problem I'm having right now is that my comic shop carries DC, Marvel and "indie", by which the owner means WILDSTORM, IMAGE, and DARKHORSE. He'll get me anything I specifically request, but there's nothing on the shelves that actually qualifies as indie. So, what are you reading right now, and is it good?
-
01.13.2011 - 00:28 | BluesIt's been a bad habit to try to make whatever hero seem better than another. batman, birds of prey, and wonder woman probably get this the most, usually with superman being their whipping boy(and batman for the birds).
I disagree about editors though. Editorial mandate is rarely from the editor(oddly enough) though the editor has to enforce it. Look, some artists start to get weird. Just look at frank millar, an editor had hold people back from ass shots of teens, and other flaws. So can having a co-plotter.

It's sad really...I feel your pain my friend. I have not read a good story since Blackest Night and I feel that that has been suspect as well. I love Marvel and would like to get back into it but they have nothing to offer and I have no idea where to start reading again!
Indie books just seem safer. I have really enjoyed the last few books I have bought, like Girl Genius, and Y the Last Man. Good stuff and not filled with crap continuity.
-
01.13.2011 - 00:24 | BluesIndies are just as quick to murder. maybe even quicker to make "heroes" that might as well just be junkies or psychopaths.
Justice League might be having a hard time for the past couple of decades but Justice society has had a lot of good runs.

I'm sorry, but he isn't. It's NOT a ratio, like where one minute passes on the ship a week passes in the real world or the like.
They're moving faster, so they perceive the things outside of the shield as slower relative to them.
Still, nice to know you'll be watching again, unless my response has soured your impression of me. XD

01.11.2011 - 04:21 | TamLinThis IS pretty horrible, but I'm still not quite sure why Linkara says it's the worst thing he's ever read. I mean, okay, once again, it's horrible, really, REALLY horrible, but I don't think it's quite as bad as "All-Star Batman" or "Identity Crisis" or "Ultimatum". Of course, it's not done yet...
Ah yes, one more thing; I know Linkara gets lots of requests, and he has a backlog of comics a mile long to get around to one of these days, however, if it hasn't already come up, I would really like to see him do a number on "Ultimate Comics: The Avengers" numbers one through six. Now, I'm one of the people who, unlike Linkara, really liked Mark Millar's first two Ultimates series, but this one...this is a piece of shit. It's just so, so horrible it makes my brain want to curl up and die. I was literally incensed when I read it, my hands were shaking, and again, that's coming from a fan of the previous stuff. So, take that for what you will.

The Green heroes are some of my favorites, and I hate seeing them act this idiotic. These are not the heroes I have come to know and love.
I'm also looking forward to the future Identity Crisis review. Some people think that's a great book, but the heroes are made into unethical dumbasses.
Plus, I know Deathstroke is supposed to be one of the deadliest assassins and uses 100% of his brain, but I hated seeing the Justice League get beaten by him so effortlessly. The same problem I had with Prometheus.
I'm all in favor of extremely difficult villains, but I wish the heroes would put up more of a fight with them and not look so weak.

I've never been a an of Hal Jordan. This might be because I didn't come into comics until Kyle Rayner was already the new Green Lantern, or it might be because Jordan is a bit of an uptight jackass.
Seriously, Ive read through a few of the old story lines. He wasn't really that interesting until he went crazy. Then because of this i think he actually got a fan base so they decided to bring him back...and they have yet to do anything really worthwhile with him except continue to make him a jackass. Even the new movie seems to be a bit out of place. They have Ryan Reynolds playing Hal Jordan with a sense of humor. So that tells me that the only way they could make this work was to play Hal Jordan like Kyle Rayner.
Let's just bring back the silly yellow bug and make him evil again, maybe he'll be interesting again.
-
01.13.2011 - 00:36 | Bluesyou're confusing character with writing style. Back then, DC characters were a little dryer. You can still see the character's personality if you know how the writing is gonna be. I read a lot of older comics, so I'm used it and I realize when its something special.
Compare hal to Alan and you can see the difference in subject matter, and style. Plus all characters are blank slates. You think Kyle is funny cause he was written that way. There's nothing that says Hal isn't funny if he's written that way either. Green Lantern Mythos as it's currently known was created with Hal sans yellow bug. That's like saying Superman or batman were bland, that's the kind of thing that's completely dependant on writing.
I'm not really a green lantern fan but I've read stuff with Kyle and he's never stood out to me.

first love the title card!
something tells me that this is going to involve the Z crystals, concert their are perpetual energy machine. For even energy slowly dissipate over time, a laser beam doesn't continuously go forever, by the time it reaches Vyse laserbeam has dissipated to a weakest level as possible, barely doing any damage, if any at all. and I'm guessing Vyse might have a little bit of Borg technology, not to mention the Masters of Time and space technology, who destroy everything, and their catchphrases is "exterminates"! so it's Z crystals OR the Terminator time transport device! and considering you would never give your fan girls the satisfaction of having a video of you naked. I'm figuring awesome laser cannon!

Aww... I was going to suggest a laser too, since light travels at the same speed in all frames of reference. What about 100 lasers? Like, 100 petawatt femtosecond lasers all firing at the same time in the same spot? That's what I would try.
I love your schlocky quasi-sci-fi Power Rangers-esque storyline, by the way. Lots more fun than just a review.
-
01.11.2011 - 14:19 | JollyGoth

Provided that you have 100 Petawatt Femtosecond lasers TO fire at the same time.
That's the same as everyone aiming for the eye stalk on a Dalek, and that's often a crap shoot. If it works, you still get:
"VISION IMPAIRED! I CAN NOT SEE!
VISION IMPAIRED! I CAN NOT SEE!"
And the last time that worked, they still killed Captain Jack for the first, and last, time.
Plus, take into account that Vice's ship is also in the midst of a Time Dam, where time is slowed down considerably, like the flow of water through the Hoover Dam. Even if the Time Shield / Time Dam were to let one of the lasers through, what if there were a secondary shield underneath that Quantum Barrier that was modulating at Femtosecond frequencies? Or the Time Shield itself for that matter, since that would be the frequency on the other end of the Time Dam.
It could take care of lasers like they were nothing, whether it be 100, 1,000, 1 Septillion, you get the idea.
-
01.11.2011 - 15:22 | Lepton
Well if we're talking about things that defy physics, if light speed was really different in his frame of reference then he could just, like, get someone to go hold a mirror in front of the ship to reflect the beams. Or hell, he wouldn't even need to do that, because the energy deposition would be severely reduced anyway since a femtosecond in our frame of reference is much longer in his. So nevermind; a laser wouldn't work anyway.
Man... why are we even talking about this? Obviously he's going to be protecting the ship using SCIENCE, which no Earthly technology can hope to match.
-
01.11.2011 - 15:49 | Inquizitor
I had to sit down and think about what Linkara was saying as well. He is right if you think about the shield accelerating everything inside the shield. From there perspective years are passing even though What is considered normal time would be only a few seconds.
As for the Laser reference. Light is not constant through different time references. Light has a set speed. Speed has a time component to it. IT is a set distance traveled in a certain amount of time. Another way to say it is D X T = S. The only way we know to change that reference is by changing the D (distance) part of the variable. T (Time) always remains constant or 1. If I am traveling at D = 4 Then my speed will be 4. Now if T is altered somehow so that I am seen to be traveling at half speed then the equation would look like 4 X .5 = 2. Thus slower.
To think of it another way if I playing a movie in slow motion I would be able to react to what is on the screen far easier or quicker.

Honestly, sometimes I feel that there needs to be an educational series on time and quantum theory in science fiction so that people get how time has, and usually is, portrayed in science fiction and in real life.
Such courses would include:
TARDISes for Dummies
The Blinovitch Limitation Effect and You (Pre-2005)
How to Construct a Flux Capacitor using Things Around the Home
Why Moving Slow Means You Should Still Get Out Of The Way
An Idiot's Guide to Shifts in the Time Continuum
When Time + Noun actually means something (ex. Time Ram / Time Dam / Time Warp / Doing the Time Vortex)
And...
Time Perception - How being super slow makes things super fast, and being super fast makes things super slow.
I know that fans of TGWTG are super smart, super nerdy, and super geeky, but even the smartest of fans could use a little brush up on their fictional space-time physics.
I wonder what a video series like that would look like? I mean, there's ton of time science explanation in movies and TV, so there wouldn't be a lack of footage.
-
Hey Linkara. I really like your science behind Lord Vyce's ship. The story line is like a really good comic. I got two things to say:
One is that you got Bizarro wrong. It was a Superman/batman clone that was combined. One half Superman and one half batman. The strange thing is, it killed itself before this comic. I don't know if there might be a new one running around, or this comic has continuity issues. And GL and GA couldn't beat him up because he had the strengths of Superman and the knowledge of Batman. Superman and Batman had to beat the clone mentally because the clone was so strong.
Also, you should really watch itsjustsomerandomguy on youtube. He combines Marvel and Dc with action figures that he collects and he adds storyline's that are complex and hilarious.
