OMG, you have the "How to talk Minnesotan" tapes! Were on earth did you find them? I thought I was the only one nerdy enough to have them.
Any one who doesn't believe I have it, it makes an appearance in the opining to my you tube video " http://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=S0zoFRVJTpM " .
Any way, great video, and nice twist on Dushy McDuschbag.

Funny thing, I found out about Schrödinger from Bioshock 2. in the level Dinosis Park there is a room called the Imago Fine Arts that was frozen over and has several thaw able patches of ice, on unfreezing a patch I came across a cat completely frozen and when I put my cross-hairs on it the art title said it was named Schrödinger. the cat was completely frozen but blood cam out and it didn't shatter when I hit it so it meant that it was probably dead/alive. Kinda funny how popular this cat is.

Aww. We only nitpick because we care. ^^;
The Minnesota weather report was hee-larious, and for some reason I wanted it to go on longer... >>;
"we are such nerds"
Yes, and we wouldn't have it any other way. ^_^
Since you did invite feedback, >> I guess I'd say that the "storyline" portions of your show, like the shennanigans with Dr. Linksano and Lord Vyce, could stand to be culled. A little bit isn't too bad, but this is a show were you review comics, not an adventure serial or online sketch comedy. It gets a bit tiresome when low-budget action sequences take up half the entire review. =/
That said, they make enjoyable bunkers for your reviews when they are short, sweet, and of minimal consequence, like the "last time on Atop the Fourth Wall" or the early appearances of Mechara and Linksano.
-
Don't know; Linkara has said continuously he is a fan of continuity(look at HOPR if you will), he does these because he wants to, and alot of his fans like it.
Now don't get me wrong; you have the right to your opinion and if what Linkara said was not sarcasm he will take it under advisement, it's just that doesn't fit under 'screw up', and is probably in the minority when it comes to his fans. I know I enjoy the storyline, but I'm a continuity nerd as well so yeah. All in all I know there are people who would agree with you I'm just in the opposite field from ya and think that Linkara's continuity is fun.
-
12.28.2010 - 13:19 | KariI'm tempted now to go hunt down and count the reviews that have more than two minutes of story in them. I'm thinking there have maybe been five or six, and I'd like to see it stepped UP, not down. As for episodes where the story might have actually taken up fully half of the running time, three jump to mind, and they were awesome, according to some of us. It's amazing how vocal a few people can get about disliking the story lines when they're really kinda downplayed overall.
Anyway, just speaking up here so both sides of that opinion get aired.
-
12.28.2010 - 15:19 | DarthThought
I think between you me and the FuzzyNecromancer both sides of the coin have been fairly and accurately described.
I mea I love love love love his storyline, and actually the only time the story line has taken up over half of the running time is/was
Silent Hill Dying Inside #5, MMPR #1, Star Trek Elite Force and Silent Hill Dead Alive #5
Those are the ones that stand out in my mind, of course he could be talking about the crossover reviews he's done, then again the only one i can think about even remotely being that is the Warrior comics, and those are a great mix of review and continuity.
All in all, there are people that think for some reason review shows like this don't need a continuity; where as there are fans like me and you(kari) that love the continuity and wait impatiently for the next part of the story
-
12.28.2010 - 23:01 | KariThose are the eps I was thinking of, and I thought maybe Ewoks also, but I haven't actually checked or anything. I like making fun of bad comics as much as anybody (as the inheritor of my dad's collection, I do it a lot), but it's the story I really enjoy. So, maybe the show doesn't NEED continuity, but it benefits from it just the same.
-
01.03.2011 - 15:54 | Morgan WickPersonally, I find the storylines enjoyable and awesome, and yet hate them at the same time because they're taking away from what's supposed to be a comic book review show. (And also, we're really supposed to believe Earth's greatest hope is a frickin' comic book reviewer?)

It's possible it was an actual mess up being that there was a Danny and a Donnie in the group. then again, since HE IS A MAN *punch*, there is no real reason to know that off hand. I only know of Danny because my sister's friend at the time had a crush on him. I found out about the Wahlbergs well after the fact.
Or I could be over-analyzing.

12.27.2010 - 22:03 | kit-kat-heartattackD: People nitpick on your ACCENT?! Really? That's....very, very sad. Like, they couldn't think of anything else to whine about, so they decided to complain that you pronounce a few words differently than they do. And...how did they even notice something that minuscule, anyway?
As for the swearing, I've always found it kind of refreshing that every other word out of your mouth isn't something that would make an elementary student say 'Uuuuuuummmm!!!! :O' In this day and age, it's getting harder and harder to find people who keep their language at least moderately clean, especially on the internet. I appreciate it :3
One random thing (not a nitpick, I swear, just something I noticed that I thought was funny, even if it's only funny to me ;P) On the whole 'single shoulder pad thing,' one of the pictures you used...um...the one of the guy holding the gun? (I don't know who he is. He's standing at an angle, and I think the gun is foreshortened?) When you're talking about 90's art styles. He's wearing the shoulder pad on the wrong arm, if he's really wearing it for the reasons he's supposed to be, instead of to look 'X-tream!'
>.>'
Yeah, ok XD Anyway, please keep up the awesome reviews! Looking forward to your next one.

I've never understood why swearing makes one immature, or how words can be "dirty" or "clean". They are, in fact, just words. Nothing more. Fuck is no more harmful or "dirty" than the word foul. These so called swear words are just words that happened to arbitrarily deemed improper for no real adequate reasons long ago. It's just archaic. Words are no more harmful than air. What matter is context, how the word(s) is/are used. Exclaiming "Motherfucker!" when you smash your hand is fine as it's a cry of pain. Calling someone a "motherfucker" is different as the intent is to insult that person. the context, not the words.
-
12.30.2010 - 08:01 | BluesAlmost all those words started as insults. Not just mother fucker but fuck "fuck you, fuck this", ass ect.
They're immature because immature kids can say them and giggle at them. The words aren't polite because in a polite setting they would stick out due to their insulting nature. The words themselves have changed meaning so they make more sense in any context but all of them started out as curses(wishing someone ill) and insults. Parents would tell kids not to say them due to that, and the immature children would get giggles from just saying them despite not giving any thought to their meaning.
some are also sexual vulgar slangs, another reason parents wouldn't want their kids to say them.
-
01.01.2011 - 17:18 | Dragon_NexusYour argument started out flawed (I hate the "They're just words" counter argument, as if words can't possible be offensive regardless of what you say)
However, you're right in one thing. Context.
Though of course some words are just not acceptable regardless of context (See You Next Tuesday, for example). Some people are offended by swear words anyway.
The point is to slowly learn how people feel about swear words and then use them accordingly, not just blurt them out because, hey, I'M not offended!
Your example was poor, but the message is correct. Swearing CAN be a sign of immaturity. I know plenty of people who can make a sentence last twice as long as it should because literally every second or third word is "Fuck" or "Fucking", and it makes me not want to talk to them. However, if you can learn *how* to swear and when it's appropriate then it's an adition to your vocabulary and useful.
-
01.02.2011 - 22:15 | kit-kat-heartattackI actually wasn't making the elementary school comment to imply the words are immature, it was simply a way I was using to describe the words. XD It's just always something I've associated swear words with, because it was something the kids in my class did a lot when I was little.

01.01.2011 - 17:20 | Dragon_NexusAgreed...never figured it was anything other than an accent.
The only thing I'd maybe nit-pick is the way he pronounces the plural as "Roofs" instead of "Rooves." as would normally be the case. But really, who cares? Do people really fly into a rage when someone pronounces something differently to how they expect? Does it ruin the video or something?
-
12.27.2010 - 22:23 | GenericGeekGood video, personally I prefer that you avoid the major swear words. You seem more intelligent using well... words...
Why do people keep sending you good comics? The point of the show is to rip apart bad comics.
Do you do independently printed comics, I have some awful ones the author gave me at a con about space pirates that have a bear on their crew.

Actually Linkara,I think the new camera looks fine. the color looks kinda more vibrant. I like it.
and honestly, personally I DON'T consider 'Damn', 'ass', and 'Hell' to be swears. Especially Hell. that's a place, created by religion. if the word 'Hell' is a swear, then so is the word 'Heaven'.
but seriously, 'Damn', 'ass' and 'Hell' are so commonly used they've become so mainstream that they are no more swears than the words 'suck' or 'crap'. You can say 'Hell', 'ass' and 'Damn' on TV. you cannot say the f word, s word, c word, etc on TV. in fact, I've even seen KIDS shows that say 'crap', 'sucks', and 'sexy', words that seem odd on a kids show considering the FCC and their army of dumbass Moms (I don't want little jimmy watching that show, and so I want the Government to fix that, so I don't have to take any responsibility in raising my own kid) nowadays. they even say the words 'hell' and 'damn' in the video game Shadow the Hedgehog. yes, that's right, a game in the SONIC THE HEDGEHOG FRANCHISE has the word 'Damn' in it, very frequently. and the word 'hell' a few times.
so, no, 'Hell' 'Damn' and 'Ass' are not swears..........NOT that I want you to swear. if you don't want to swear, hey, more power to you. good for you for keeping it clean. I don't care if you swear or not, I just wanted to say that no, those words that you gave are not really swears.
all that said, I did enjoy this video very much. it was fun.

12.28.2010 - 11:39 | mrrubino
-
01.01.2011 - 17:22 | Dragon_NexusActually, Hell wasn't created by religion. One of the earliest depictions of "Hell" as we know it is from poetry like Dante's Inferno. The bible doesn't ever mention Hell by name or description.
From passages like Matthew 13:42: "And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth."
That's essentially it.
-
01.03.2011 - 18:19 | Fangheart
-
03.16.2011 - 12:42 | jjflashNo. Hell was considered a swear because it is a word of condemnation (Hell being considered a stand-in for an unpleasant place in the social understanding of the word, you are spitting at someone essentially calling for harm/damnation/death, no different from saying 'I hope you rot'). Heaven (once again, in social understanding, is considered to be a nice place), thus commending someone to Heaven is not a word of condemnation (thus it is not a curse).
So your argument doesn't really work.
-
02.16.2011 - 18:07 | SuggestionsMakeryou DO know that the game received a LOT of negative reviews for these factors, right??
-
12.27.2010 - 23:05 | Crossover Princess
I personally think your lack of using stronger swears is refreshing, I get the stronger swears all the time, from NC and my dad (my dad's an Italian american from Yonkers NY... so yeah...). It's a good way to break away from the norm. It's one of the reasons why I love your videos.
Also I have to say I loved the Douchey cameos... they were great! I wads laughing so hard when he first appeared.
Good video.

I never thought that you made as much mistakes as Doug, Lewis. BTW, I was wondering if Douchey McNitpick was gonna make an appearance in this episode.
15. I don't really mind how you say "room." I know exactly what you're talking about.
14. I still find it incredibly interesting that Mark Walhberg was a brief member of NKOTB.
13. I also don't care about The Maxx, because, frankly, he looks weird.
12. I still think of Pat Lee as a money grabbing jack@$$, and IDW was the best think to ever happen to Transformers comics since the Marvel days.
11. I really need to see "Forbidden Planet" from start to finish.
10. Wow. I now know the origins of the computer, and knowing is half the battle.
G.I. JOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOE!!!!!
9. I'd like to see someone on this site to review the film based on The Shadow.
8. I agree that AT4W is where bad comics burn, not where every single comic on the planet Earth gets BURNT. Also, can't wait for more S.C.I. Spy.
7. At least the can is still blue.
6. I think some archers also use the one shoulder pad, which makes sence to me.
5. U-Hauls and the RV in that comic DO look similar.
4. I find it AOK that you don't use the big swears in your videos. I would do the same thing. I should also mention that I caught you using the F word in Spoony's video blogs on the anniversary brawl.
3. I knew about Naked News during the days where my household use to have HBO, and I am glad you caught up with that in the episode after that.
2. I agree for the fact that we are a bunch of nerds, but I love it.
1. I have no knowledge of Schrodinger's cat, but I would also talk about something different other than something I DON'T want to talk about.

first off I loved the ending, using the Q finger snap! honestly I'm glad he don't swear that much, at least on the show, for to me it means that, when things get real serious, you will take action and say the big four letter words. Besides when did screw not become a swear word! I can't wait for your next ones, and by the way, revenge of the nerds!
now, I do recall that I was one of the people that commented on the naked news, first off you do have the greatest job in the world( I can catch sarcasm YA!) and thank God I did not comment on number one, nor the Kool-Aid Man thing. And this is about bad comics, which must burn, burn in a fiery pits of Tartarus, speaking of when are you going to review a bad Hercules comic? and the one with Kevin Sorbo is not the one I'm talking about( Marvel has Hercules too)

Entertaining as always, sir! Kind of impressive how your kinds of screw-ups seem to differ from Doug's...And I mean that in a good way. ;)
And if that message at the end about pointing us out more errors wasn't meant as sarcasm, there is one thing from a review of yours that's somewhat bugged me...Though it isn't a screw-up as much as a simple oversight.
Basically, in your Kool-Aid Man review, you never seemed to notice that the artist for the comic was Dan DeCarlo. Given how you tend to point out any notable artists or writers in comics you review, I was kind of surprised you missed him. He was the artist responsible for giving Archie a contemporary look in the '60s which stuck around, keeping up with the times & semi-revolutionizing the character. He was also the creator of such characters as Sabrina the Teenage Witch & Josie and The Pussycats, was posthumously inducted into the Eisner Award Hall of Fame (after multiple nominations), & from what I've heard, is held in high esteem by other comic pros like Paul Dini. Not to mention he just has a distinctive & cool style I love a lot.
...Of course, none of that explains why he was doing A COMIC ABOUT THE FRIGGING KOOL-AID MAN. >_
-
12.27.2010 - 23:50 | SlyDante
(Also, I apparently have no idea we have character limits here. Screw-ups abound!)
But then in your TMNT Meets Archie review, you explained that you didn't pay any real attention to Archie, & it all made sense. Not like I can criticize you for not being an Archie fan. Still, it just seemed like an odd oversight to me.
Oh, & in your list iten here about the Nolan Ryan comic, you say you can't remember the kid's name, yet the panel on screen at that excat moment clearly shows his name is Paul. Thus your list of screw-ups has a slight screw-up itself! Yay irony! =P
-
12.28.2010 - 16:37 | mrskippy
Your comment on the top fifteen screw-ups neglects to take into consideration that Linkara could have recorded the audio and THEN put in the panel during editing, meaning that when he made the remark, he couldn't be bothered to look it up, which then means that your comment has a slight screw-up! Wow...this just got meta.

While there is an absence of heat in space, a liquid, even if it were kept under pressure, would still not freeze. Since there is no air in space, there is no matter for non-radiant heat to transfer to, meaning it stays put. The same principle is how a vacuum thermos works.
(And yes, I checked to make sure someone else hasn't posted this in the comments... and posted it here in order for other people to check for.)
