the red and blue contrast of this comic, and the distorted images gave me a headache. and i feel like nothing happened. i wish i could hear the 3d music...it would probably be about as average as avatar though...

THAT HURT!
I don't know what else to say. I already wear glasses, so in order to even attempt to do anything 3D, I either have to take off my glasses, in which case I can't see, or wear both pairs at once, which tends to give me really bad headaches.
The fact that, on top of having to wear additional/incorrect glasses, the 3D doesn't work... that's just painful. On SO many levels.

Wow, I feel depressed that some executive honestly thought people would be dumb enough to buy this. Maybe extra-clueless parents who need to feel smarter than their kids? No wonder they didn't even bother with actual 3D. Further, they didn't exploit the supposed 3D in any actual way, so whats the point?

07.20.2010 - 17:46 | guidojacobs2002The source of the sound can be in three dimensions. Surround speakers take care of the X and Z planes, and pitch (ask anyone that can throw their voice about this) can raise or lower the sound along the Y plane.
Does that make sense?

My eyes feel messed up now.
I hate 3D movies. It's so unnecessary. I was so excited when I saw the Harry Potter trailer the other day(it wasn't the first time I watched it, but I like to get the full experience by seeing it in theatres), and I really liked it, but just seeing the words "See it in Imax 3D" kind of pissed me off. I love Harry Potter, but I don't get the point of seeing it in 3D. I don't get the point in seeing anything in 3D. It's expensive. It's stupid. And most of the time, it's not worth it, since it's usually very unimpressive( Alice in Wonderland is one that stands out as having horrible 3D to me)
I think I might remember California Raisins. Now I feel old. :P

I feel the same way as you. I hate, hate, HATE 3D gimmicks! Not only is it unnecessary, but it ups the price of the movie and, since I wear glasses already, it's awkward to wear the glasses over the pair I already have to wear. Half the time, the glasses slip off and I miss what's going on.
Now don't get me wrong. 3D can be fun in certain places, but usually only as some kind of theme park attraction like the 3D Muppet Show at Disney World. In a situation like that, it's just a short little featurette long enough to have a fun time with some of the crazy effects, but it's not two hours of nonsense to make my head hurt.
I desperately hope that this 3D thing is a fad and that we're not going to truly move on to ONLY having 3D television and movies like I've been hearing people talk about. The fact that Nintendo's making me have to buy their stupid 3DS just so I can keep playing portable games is obnoxious enough as it is.
On another note, my wife and I were just discussing yesterday how television commercials were big business in the 80's. Whole franchises were stemmed just from commercial campaigns, like the California Raisins and Jim Varney's Ernest character. Actually, there were other franchises that resulted from ad campaigns even before the 80's. I suppose in the 21st Century, nobody cares about TV commercial characters anymore. Now everyone just goes bonkers over 3D computer-animated blue alien giraffe monsters from space.

Oh man, this takes the cake for wackiness. The kool-aid man comic is practilly TAME compared to this idotic mess.
I just don't get why comic publishers do this crap. I was content with comics like Catwoman: when in rome, and All-Star Superman, but I guess there was some kind of demand for this wacky abomination.

07.19.2010 - 19:13 | khayal1O1I completley agree with you on 3D, I hate hearing about it, thats why I love Chris Nolen, he dosn't like it either, and not having to look for Inception without 3D was a godsend.
Also I remember those Raisens, they creeped me out when I was a kid but everyone in my family loved them, I cant believe they made a comic, well ok maybe I can but...yeah

We've seen a comic about Kool-Aid, so why not? ;)
Seriously though, did anyone honestly think this was a good idea? What buisinessman thought that this comic would sell? Oh well, we've seen stupider here, so I guess I can't complain too much because it's pretty darn harmless.
That was surprisingly violent at the end though. It's like watching Care Bears where the bears decide to suddenly pull out machine guns to defeat their enemies. Speaking of which, why didn't they just do that on the other raisins? Ah well, doesn't really matter.
Nice review Linkara. I always enjoy watching them. :)

07.19.2010 - 19:24 | Pye Like EyeA 3-D comic about singing raisins fighting a giant hamburger... this has to be the dumbest comic I've seen you review. And the 3-D not working only makes it more stupid.
Totally agree on 3-D being pointless, though. I hope the craze dies down soon.

The California Raisins always struck me as a really strange marketing tool. It's like, how do you get little kids to want to eat vegetables and fruit? Uh... give them faces and make them sing, I guess.
Anyway, it would have been nice to watch this with 3-D glasses so I could see what you were talking about. Though I did notice that on one part of the pages the blue goes one way, and on the other part is goes the opposite way, which would probably confuse the effect a little, too. I dunno'.
Nice review. At least this one wasn't as stupid as the Kool-Aid Man comic.

07.19.2010 - 19:29 | Everlong97Great review as always and sadly I remember the raisins too.
BTW Kingdom Come is one of the many great comics I've ever read.
-
07.19.2010 - 19:31 | WerewolfRiverIt's interesting to note that the 3-D on the title card actually works better that the 3-D in the comic.
By the way can you review the comic Jason vs. Leatherface, Linkara?
-
07.19.2010 - 19:34 | Remake_TrapI remember having raisin toys and really liking them, and claymation rocks!
I never really read any 3D comics but I do need to track down GI Joe 3D and Robotech 3D to complete my collections of those two titles.
Anyway great review Lewis.

07.19.2010 - 19:39 | vulcanearsA 3-D comic. About California Raisins. That have limbs and eyeballs and can talk.
wtf?
I kinda liked some of the good raisin puns. They be punny :)
"I've had plans for Raisinville since I was a little patty!" That's so bizzare...
Hilarious review :)

07.19.2010 - 19:40 | the review reviewerwow!!! Just wow!!!
I'm to young to know of the california raisons and i'm surprised such a stupid concept ever got made into a 3-D (or rather not 3-d just shit) comic book! It takes balls to release something so tacky and crap!
What kind of appeal does this have to little kids anyway? IT'S TALKIN TURDS not something awesome like dinosaurs or half naked girls!!
I could rant about this shit all day but no-one here really wants to hear me talkin shit so in short- I liked the review Linkara!!! I really like at4w and want to thank you for showin me this pile of ass!! Any essay i write in english class will be the Jesus of liturature compared to this crap!!
-
I dont think Dinosaurs and "half naked girls" have anything in common in what really young children are entertained by and are in two totally different categories...since we are talking about singing Claymation raisins here... That comment was just stupid, I'm sorry. Not everything has to be about sex, especially for, um, children? -_-

To those unknowing about the california raisins- the claymation specials and music videos and what not were good (well from memory, havent seen one in a decade or so).
I remember the raisins. My dad was collecting the figures way back then. I think he had just about all of them (yes there were even hard to find rare ones!)
I remember there being more then one special, but I know one was a christmas special because for some reason I will never forget the bad pun about waffling that the announcers use as a running gag through the whole thing.
As a kid they were enjoyable and had good music. I dont know if it holds up now or not: maybe nostalgia critic should do that sometime (the california raisins christmas special).
Eh, just a thought haha B)

Actually, there was only one straight California Raisins television special and that was the Behind the Music styled mockumentary "Meet the Raisins." Fairly funny, in my opinion, but I love just about anything that makes fictional characters out to be bonafide celebrities. Same reason I think the Gorillaz project is so stinking awesome. But I digress.
The Christmas special you recall was actually a piece called "A Claymation Christmas" by Will Vinton (the same studio that produced the Raisins commercials). It featured the Raisins at the end as guest stars performing their rendition of "Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer," but for the most part, it was a series of unrelated comical shorts of humorous animated characters performing various Christmas songs or sketches related to Christmas, all hosted by two dinosaur emcees much in the same vein of the Muppet Show.

07.19.2010 - 19:51 | ThatJinxedGirlouch, my head hurts trying to look at this. its kind of making me have a headache. :X
-
07.19.2010 - 19:52 | BlancoThat's odd. The 3-D started working for me about half-way through the video. At first I was just wearing the glasses because it hurt my eyes less, but then it started to work for some reason.
It was still pretty poorly done though. At one point, the Raisins looked like they were closer to me than the rail that was supposed to be in front of them.

Linkara doesn't expect you to. He said that he knew most of the viewers wouldn't.
And they probably came with the comic.
