This one is my favorite episode so far...and plus its just a good example of how to make a bad product placement comic for children.
And I agree, no kid would be as hammy as Alec and say that stuff unless he thought he was going to get extra credit out of it or be a teacher's pet. I mean, yeah, when I was a little girl me and my friends liked to talk about what we wanted to be when we grew up and get excited about all the cool stuff we will do supposidely.
But then the rest of "We have to be the leaders for our country for a better America.." just kinda made it ridiculous

06.07.2010 - 20:10 | moonymonsterLinkara, 'fore I review this I wanted to say that in one of your reviews you didn't think anyone in the industry really listened to what you had to say--or was willing to learn from it anyway. Well, I gotta say that I'm trying to learn how to draw comics and I learn quite a lot from you :D So I'm quite glad you do this show--I get an idea of what not to do, and every time you go over covers and panel layout I really do pay attention. So thanks for this episode--I'll have to watch it again and take notes! XD
Annnyway. Can't wait to find out who 'HE' is.
This comic is....strange. I really can't think of a better word for it o.O;

Wow, the fact that the kid with Blonde Hair and blue eyes is talking about taking over the country so...unnaturally reminds me of the alternate version of history where the Nazis take over the world. Is this comic an attempt to make MEIN KAMPF more interesting?
I can hear it now:
Blonde kids: "VE VILL THINK VITH OUR BLOOD AND BRING GLORY AND HONOR TO THE FATHERLAND VORTHY OF THE FUHRER!"
Colored kids: "Yay, we're the happy slaves of the master race!"
Seriously. Also, Carlos Slim owns Radio Shack. He also owns a place called Mexico, and is the richest man on and off in the world. Most people don't even know he exists. Not so patriotic now, huh?

06.07.2010 - 20:46 | EbalanceI think you're spot on about this kid being the Ultimate Warrior: same stupid incredibly long useless dialogue and overuse of ellipses
Actually, I think they traced part of that panel and put in a different background and one slightly different kid
Why do they explain things OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER in this comic?!
And the police officers add bizarre, obscure, unnecessary innuendo
That "STATE FAIR" font reminds me of Star Wars for some reason
I think this story was written by a 1980's computer
I think you could have made a good Poyo joke somewhere in here...
Gotta love AT4W!!!!!

I also think they traced the kids from something else entirely.
Seriously these are the most over-developed elementary school students ever. Even taking the weird steroid-abuse panel at the end,all the female students have hourglass figures. Maybe it's just more of that weird comic book anatomy going on, but I was under the impression that that only applied to super-hero comics.
(On another note: What, Beatles reference at the end of the video? Clue? Am I supposed to go off on wild Paul Is Dead tangents now? Is Linkara actually dead, replaced by an actor/look-a-like named William "Billy" Shears Campbell? Am I just a loony?)
-
06.09.2010 - 06:07 | Ollitsac Okimi'd rather know why alec is sitting in a wheelchair in the panel where the whole class screams "GREAT, MS.WILSON!" but once they go to the "computer class" he's fine and is well enough to run a marathon. :S
-
I know you covered it briefly here but is there a chance you could go into depth about what makes a good cover (in your opinion) in a future video? I'm not saying this advice wasn't useful but I'm somewhat thinking more towards talking about how to play light and shadows, drawing the eye around the cover, and catching notice on the shelf.
No real rush though, I know you've got a full plate of work as is. It's just something I would like to see you cover, if you'll pardon the pun.
-
06.07.2010 - 20:50 | anaeuphisThey had to include the "all-electronics" qualifier in their statement about the first computer. Who cares about historical accuracy when you have to be patriotic in a PSA comic.

Y'know, at the end of the Warrior #2-3 review, I was a bit apprehensive about the possibility of the Mechakara arc starting up again. I was a bit excited to see where you'd go with it, especially since you handled it so well in the first place, but I also think you shouldn't get too carried away with creating arcs within reviews. But after the beginning and ending of this episode I am totally on board of whatever you plan to do! The ominous "He's coming!" at the beginning was great (as was the call back to the Son of Insano, which seems to sadly have been forgotten) and the evil laugh at the end from Linksano really drew me into the moment.
And yeah, it's your show, you can do what you want with it, so I guess I was just being a stubborn, disgruntled fan with worry.
I find it funny you went on the topic of covers this episode, because I only just began to realize why you'd rant about them in earlier episodes. I wasn't really a big comic book fan until recently, but now that I've been spending time at the comic store in my city I've really started to notice how some covers create a feeling of wanting to know what happens next, and others are just average.
That Alec kid is just freaky! The way he talked fit a bit too much to your earlier joke about them being brainwashed. Its like the school has tricked them into being adults before they're supposed to be. Even really nerdy kids would spend their vacation discussing careers that are YEARS ahead of them.
The stinger at the end of the credits nearly made me fall out of my chair laughing. There is no better word to describe it other than "Awesome". I can't wait to see what happens next week!
Edited to add: Oh yeah, and your editing to PSA HELL freaked me out. It was good since it fit to the "hell" thing, but it got unsettling near the end. I don't know why, but it did.

Avoid Mixing PSAs with comics trying to sell
your computers!
Avoid Proofreading to try to keep character
names straight!
& I never expected anyone to reference Oregon Trail! That takes me back to my Apple IIe days of long ago!
