04.19.2010 - 22:48 | Eleion121Now i have the Gilligan's Island theme song in my head. I would watch Gilligan over joining the fray of emo people any day too. I always loved how the professor could like build a plane or something but never fix the boat to get them off that stupid island.

Wow. So many inconsistancies. So many mischarictarizations. So much wasted potential. I must ask, do editors not pay as much attention to elseworld stories as they do to mainline stuff, and even that has a sketchy terck record.
I heard there is a What If story that has the Scalet Witch take away super powers in general after the events of House of M instead of just most of the mutants. Can anyone who's read it tell me if that's any beter?

04.19.2010 - 22:54 | ginikuDamn, Linkara, I love it when you rip a comic to shreds with common sense.

04.19.2010 - 23:05 | YetAnotherGeekAs stated in the comic, tech-based heroes are unaffected.
-
04.20.2010 - 08:08 | Dragon_NexusWrong universe for a start, Iron Man is Marvel.
And realistically, his suit would work as normal. Everything that makes him who he is is based on technology. No radiation or chemicals etc.
However for this comic, they'd probably say his heart dohicky failed so he had to be given a pacemaker or something.
-
04.20.2010 - 20:00 | groupthinker1984I imagine they'd have the Extremis fail (even though thats technology) because its powers.

I've considered doing that to my final issue of Sonic X. It was basically 32 pages of "We're sick of this series. Now go read our other, much more confusing and stupid Sonic comic book!"
And, yes, I did collect the Sonic X series and I feel no shame in admitting that. It was actually a very funny and playful comedy superhero series that felt very true to the theme of the Sonic the Hedgehog video games and never took itself too seriously. The Sonic the Hedgehog comic, on the other hand... Well, that's a nightmare of half-baked emo romances and pan-dimensional subplots that should have ended a LONG time ago.

As a long-time fan of the Archie-Sonic book, I'll avoid saying what I want to say, and instead say that I politely disagree.
Sonic X was designed and written like the kind of video-game based comic books that used to come out in the 90s: cheap art, two-dimensional characters, stock storylines with often cliched plots, and simply no effort being made to actually put in some drama.
Which was how the regular Sonic comic was originally written, until about the 25th anniversary issue, when the story decided to drop most of the comedy and instead focus on much better dramatic action-adventure storylines. They got us to care for the characters, by developing them instead of leaving them as flat stereotypes.
It's been going strong for as long as there's been a Sonic franchise, and I hope and pray it'll keep going strong for even longer. And if you don't like it, then DON'T READ IT! Seriously, the book has enough faithful fans, so we don't give a damn if you hate it, as long as you don't bother us with your complaining. You're not the target audience, and the authors don't have to pander to you.
*Grumbles about people thrashing on his favorite comics*

Don't get me wrong, as much as I love the Sonic comic as well, there have been quite a few clunkers in its history (First rule of Archie's Sonic the Hedgehog: Do not talk about Endgame).
As for character development, yeah, they've done quite a good job with that, though then I can't help thinking about how they handled the aftermath of *spoiler* the battle between Sonic and Robotnik, namely how all of Sonic's friends acted as if they could care less about the guy--hell, there was NO reaction from anyone but Sonic, and everyone else was pretty much telling him, "Quit moping, dude, you're harshing my mellow." I'll admit, I'm a few issues behind (I think 202 or 204 was the last one I read, and I haven't had time to catch up to the newer issues), so I don't know if they ever did anything with that specific thing but...really. That really turned me off.

04.20.2010 - 07:02 | Ash6774I was wondering the same thing with Superman's powers ect, can't wait for part 2 Linkara.
I'm sure the comic itself isn't an "Act of God".

Say, Isn't GL's costume a part of his power? Flash too to an extent?
For some, not all, some might think it a gift to have lost their powers, I know the Flash has some issues with his.
But yeah, it's not like they've never temporarily lost their powers before.
Why does he instantly suspect the ring? Maybe it's the Lantern that's broke.
Sometimes when Rogue borrows another mutant's power, she adopts some of the mutant's appearances as well, but not all the time. I guess just some powers are tied to appearances, (But more likely, some are fun to draw, and for this comic, some characters wouldn't be recognizable otherwise.)
I guess like a virus that affects everyone, but yeah, due to sheer variety of beings here, it's hard to believe everyone would be affected the same way. And yeah, seriously, they need to move on from this.

04.19.2010 - 23:59 | MichaelDj54I don't usually like Comics, but when Linkara talks about them with enough determinationlike that, I have to admit, i'm getting interested and find myself catching the same plot holes hecatches.
I'm gonna need to get into Comics now...

04.20.2010 - 00:11 | CageAquariumUgh, the Martian Manhunter went from being awesome to being a self deprecating whiner. I mean, I can see the curiosity in being "normal" but calling himself bizarre seems like short sighted and bad writing.

First off! Something something dark side something something something dark side, something something natural abilities, something something. Okay couple questions I have for the writer, number one why is Aquaman, there, for if it is powers based on genetics, his mother was an Atlantean, and his father was human, so technically that would also be a genetic transformation, even if we ignore genetics evolution, that would mean that every single human on the planet would be reverted to guerrillas, which we already had a else world story on. And what about, the fact that a lot of the superheroes that gain their powers, from laboratory accidents (with the exception of beastsboy which brings also the fact matter is he green, which comes from his powers) still have their super intelligence, and if that was the case, there was a short period of time when electricity was out. I think the only reason why the new god are gone, along with most mystical superheroes(key word being the most which I wonder why wonder woman, around considering she is well connected to the gods!) is so they can't contact god! This seriously insults my intelligence, I mean I can for go the house of M, without knowing any continuity, and still it semi-enjoyable, because I still know the basics of some of the characters, but this points out that this is a inexperienced writer(or one who does not like to do research on their project, which means that they are lazy and stupid, because you cannot pick up someone's work without doing research, and also they haven't read a single issue of the previous work, or else they would already know this stuff, I mean I can for go the lesser-known characters, or the most recent ones that were developed, but Superman! Not a chance! So this is very odd.
PS: spoon was too busy with his projects,to do the Warriors so you had to go get a clip.

Wow.....that was hard to watch. Felt like every character ever listed was raped of their persona. I mean come on, if Kyle (Rayner) didn't quit or go insane when his girlfriend was found dead in a freezer, what makes the writer think having lost to a loser like Sonar would snap Kyle's brain in two?
Great work Linkara!

Hoo boy... I'm glad to hear the C-Alarm was shut off before the review, we'd never hear the end of it. It would probably have short circuited by the end of the book otherwise...
A great review, even if the rant felt to be going a bit long with all the issues in this book, since the fact that you brought them all up makes it work out.
Also, new drinking game: One shot per continuity problem. You wouldn't make it through the series.

04.20.2010 - 00:35 | SaturnThis comic is one that makes sense if you don't look too closely at it, but once you put it under the microscope it gets dumb fast.
Can't wait till next week.

Seems as though this can be summed up in one pithy Question quote from Justice League Unlimited:
"Everything that exists has a specific nature, and possesses characteristics that are a part of what it is. A is A... And no matter what reality he calls home, Luthor is Luthor."
At least they got that much right.
Here's looking forward to next week.

Yeah, we are just happy with all the super beings out of place, hooray!
... you know I always think this is the modus operandi a lot of people in the Marvel universe think. LEt`s be honest, civil war; what happened on this school was more than tragic, but considering how often Iron Man, the fantastic four and other heroes saved the world, this god damn citizens just should shut up and hunt down the people responsible for the crap, but no.
And here... okay let`s be honest: If every super being on earth would lose its powers, it would at least prevent the uprise of some villains like Parasite I think. Still as pointed out, what about villains from outer space, mad scientists and other "techno villains"? If the governments really don`t think about them, than let`s be honest, the world deserves to be burned down by villains like Toyman, Cyborg and who else.
Also, the entire thing about Martian Manhunter saying "we were not normal". Well as you said, what is normal? Beside, they still achieved great things with their powers and used them to help the world more than just once. Sure, without super power beings, there are also again a few less villains, but as said before, now nothing could really stop the rise of techno villains. And let`s be honest, Lex Luthor, Brainiac, Dr. Polaris... those are the really bad guys.
And Kyle Rayner whining... you know, Kyle is someone who experienced -in canon- a lot of bullcrap. Every three years a girlfriend dies, his mother was killed by a Sinestro Corp member and he always has some problems to get his life to work. And while -like in the case of his mother`s death- he gets down, he somehow always manage to stand up for imself and continues to fight.
But in this case... he whines like an emo, starts screaming and doesn`t change his outfit?
(By the way: I thought the costumes was also something which the ring created, so shouldn`t it also in some ways vanish?)
Not to forget the thing about Superman. I mean, great you pointed out the thing about him and having also his moments in which he couldn`t do anything. But seriously, you for once since Suprman at earth`s end, defended Ennis? Don`t get me wrong, but that really is something you see very rarely. And also it is a bit of awkward if you realize, Ennis in one issue of his comic came up with a more canon like charactertrait of Superman, than this comic.
So, what will happen in the next issues? I heard Joker will kill himself because his sanity was restored thanks to the "act of god" (aka Deus ex machina asspull) . Yeah, because "insanity" is a superpower. Beside, if the event also restored the minds of different people like Joker, why are there still such megalominacs like Luthor, Polaris and in some way Captain Cold? And I know Cold isn`t "crazy" compared to people like Joker, Two Face and so on. But if people`s mental state is also restored,...
