Nah, I actually understand this dialogue.
He sees a door, so he says: "Doooor!"
In Warrior, I never knew what was going on at all.

Honestly, I'd rather read the faux intellectual ramblings of a madman, than
dialogue that sounds like it was written by a 6 year old fanfiction writer. It
makes me pine for the halcyon days of Peter Chimaera."No! I must kill the demons" he shouted
The radio said "No, John. You are the demons"
And then John was a zombie.

11.21.2009 - 17:37 | REVIEWER RICK - The book...
"Knee Deep in the Dead" is the first book in the Doom series of books ( 4 books total ) . It's kinda odd they used the title of the book on the cover of the comic.
I must say, the comic does NOT follow the books at all.
The name of the marine ( in the books ) is Corporal Flynn TaggartAny ways, I love your review of this poorly done comic, and especially liked the take on "Alone in the Dark" warehouse firefight. Very funny. Keep up the great work.

Knee Deep in the Dead is the first episode of the original Doom game (out of 3, later 4 in Ultimate Doom).. or the shareware version of the game, if you prefer. I'll wager they went with that and not the Doom novels.
...Granted, the final boss(es) of said first episode in Doom was a pair of Barons of Hell, not a Cyberdemon. The BFG wasn't in that first episode either, but whatever.

I'm with 90's Kid. Doom comic is awesome. It's so bad and pointless. It must not be read, but watched like a movie.
-

I AM A MAN AND A HALF! *PUNCH*
Oh God, I know the Protagonist is supposed to be out of his mind from killing monsters and zombie creatures but do they have to turn him into Warrior and Superboy Prime's love child?

That comic made that "Plan 9" clip look good by comparison. Actually, all of "Plan 9" looks better by comparison. It's no wonder it's so hard to find: No one wants to admit to owning a copy.
Entertaining as always.

OMG!
I don't know how or why but i found that comic book in my drawer

It is really that awful!

11.16.2009 - 23:32 | Falc0npawnch - Finally
after hearing about it and reading it i waited for you to read this. Sweet christmas floaty mouthy thingies
-
11.17.2009 - 04:06 | DeathsHead419 - Wait
90's kid is back? I thought you killed that guy, or wiped him out of existance in some time travel dealie...well, you wrote this stuff, why is he back?
Edit: also, as any avid Doom player will tell you (like me), the game takes place on Phobos, Deimos, and the surface of Hell. There is no part of the orgional that happens on Mars.
...I know too much about this game, I realize now. Sigh.
Edit 2: I just realized, Doom #1?! Does that mean, oh Zeus, there are more issues?

YES! FINALLY!
And on the same week as my birthday too! I'M SO HAPPY!!!!!!!! Monocle Linkara should be a recurring character. Call him 1890s kid.

That...that was...oh God.
How can anyone write that. Was it written by a professional, or someone they pulled off the street? Cause if it was a professional writer who made that, then I think we all have evidence of schooling and formal training being ABSOLUTELY USELESS. If a real, trained and accredited writer had ANYTHING to do with this comic, then clearly there are no standards in the comics medium, and likely anywhere else.
Unless...you don't think. No no. I mean...do you think maybe the Nameless Marine's attitudes were parodies of the average player's reactions?
"Berserk mode! Time to kill stuff!
Chainsaw! OMG I get to rip stuff apart!
Shotgun time! Best weapon evar!" Etc. etc. Cause let's face it. That's what we ALL did with Doom. We went and found the biggest guns we could (or just put in the cheat code) and then purposely went and found monsters to kill with them. Maybe this was all done purposely. Either A) to try (in vain) to approach from a player's perspective and try to capture that in the comic (which didn't work, obviously, but would at least give us a sort of logical reason for this travesty) or
to outright make fun of us all. What if?
-
11.16.2009 - 23:36 | Pikmintaro
Ahh yes this comic... I have seen it several times on the internet and it always makes me crack up.
And why is he so mad at the Cyberdemon at the start? apparently because he wasn't able to rip and tear it's guts out while it just stood there smiling at him.
And the BFG has been changed into a Shotgun o_0
*Looks at Linkara's ammo count on the title screenNappa: Vegeta! what does the scouter say about his Ammo level?
Vegeta: It's over 9000!!!!!!
>_>

Great work Linkara. Although I'm not an avid follower of comics, I love watching your reviews. Oh yeah, any plans on finishing your Elite Force lets play series? I need more Ensign Monroe in my life.

I honestly have never heard of this thing until now. When you said it was infamous, I kind of felt out of the loop. Now that I have seen how terrible it was, not so much.
Great video.

Hey Linkara,
Thanks for the great show... favorite bit = TGWTG gun-montage (I don't know why we're all such suckers for cameos but we are, we are!)
In my mind the best review you've done in a while, keep it up!
Cheers,

I tried to post this comic on your blogspot, but apparently it didn't go through.
First off, I think that dialogue was crazier than Warrior's. Should I be worrying that the space marine is gonna try raping Santa now?
Second, love the "Night Train To Mundo Fine" references. One of my fav MST eps.
Third, great to see the return of the Linkarinator. I thought you had forgotten about that plot for some reason.
All in all, great vid.
Oh, and unrelated to the vid but related to comics:

To make sure I read every comment, I have to approve every one that goes through, so it may not appear when you first write a post.

This is even worse than that asshat who assaulted Santa, in terms of plot and dialogue.
Good review, Linkara, though not much to say on this one; hard to comment on "I am a man... and a half!" Clever way to use that line, by the way.

Gun sequence = awesomeness. Didn't expect it.
Actually, never figure you could give in and review this, when i saw the title card on DA, i knew this was going to be awesome.good one

I LOVE LOVE LOVE it when you and the other folks at TGWTG use MST3k references.
The dark-shooting scene was great too.
-
11.16.2009 - 23:51 | ThomasMink
So bad. Doesn't do the Doom games any justice at all.
Not only did they get the BFG9000 wrong, they also got the Berserker pack wrong too. It lasts until death, or a level change. The red glow of rage wears off, but the powerup itself doesn't.

And the dialogue.. so friggin horrible. Good use of a Warrior-like voice. It really fit with what was being said.
-
11.16.2009 - 23:53 | Deimos1984rd
I never want to look at that comic ever again...wow, and I thought the secret club Doom level in PSX Doom was insane. One of my favorite reviews of all time especially the awesome cameos I have ever seen.
-
11.16.2009 - 23:55 | Bonkers
Wow. I mean this was just funny
Not only the review but the comic itself. I mean really, who wrote the script for this ting? I mean, I don`t expect much from a promotion game comic you could get on a convention, but this?
Who talks like that? While Warrior still makes less sense in my opinion based on you could never understand what the fuck was going on, the dialog of this character let even Frank Miller sound a little bit less crazy.
This is just an epic win of madness. I laughed my ass off by your impesonation of this. And also the rest of the video... while I really prefer your Countdown and Captain Planet review as well as the most other things with a sniddy remark from you, this was just -by far- the best.
Not only did you manage to make the comic funny as hell by your "stupid" voice, but the part with you as british gentlemen (I really like the monocle) as well as the random shooting sequence with Benzais ice bear shooting around was just... oh god. I died a little inside from laughter.
Great job Linkara. It doesn`t might be your most brilliant and complex review, but by far one with the greatest laugh factor ever.By the way, I was surprised that you didn`t continue with your Allstar batman and Robin review and so would you please answer me the following queston: Do you plan to review this abormination of Miller more or less in an intervall of a few weeks, like every fifth two new comics from this saga, or will it continue next week and this week was more or less a "filler" because of fan request?
-
11.17.2009 - 00:13 | Linkara
It's an ongoing segment, much like the Nostalgia Critic's "Old vs. New."
-
11.17.2009 - 03:17 | tiggerpete
awesome, I loved the last one (though this week was pretty good too) (hell everything you put up is a must-watch)
-

Ongoing segment? Yea! I was hoping that would be the case! *does a happy little dance*

loved the alone in the dark part was hilarious, mainly with Bennet and Mikes part.
-
11.16.2009 - 23:55 | Xatike
This was HILARIOUS. You first got me laughing with the "...you're next. 'Hoak' Hogan?" Line, then I DIED laughing with the "guns are for wusses" line. That was FANTASTIC.
...and YAY UPLINK-ARA!!!!!

11.16.2009 - 23:58 | Elrik Undersn
That was certainly a true abomination as far as comics go. Great job in somehow making the lackluster comic much more entertaining. The whole comic is kinda what they were doing for advertisements back in the day for games back then. However, those were generally one page, outlined a few things that had to do with the game (as retarded and nonsensical as they were) like 'Bonk'. And this /still/ makes those look like works of art.

That is, far and away, the WORST dialogue I've even seen. In anything. Warrior almost made sense, by proxy.
And the ending with the BFG 9000? REALLY? Where shotguns and chainguns are tearing the imps and zombies into pink mist, yet the BFG 9000 gives the Cyberdemon a few holes.... someone got this backwards.
