Now I love baseball, but enable to make a biography of someone they either have to be a great influence or have some kind of trouble they have to overcome. Mantle is legendary but he is really known for anything else.
I love 60's Kid, you should come up with a Kid for 70's and 80's. lol

I'm a Michiganian, and so we've got a pretty good team with the Tigers. Admittedly I'm not a big sports buff myself, but I know they've been doing quite well the past few years. We have a lot of good teams, actually. The Red Wings, the Pistons... Hell it seems are only truly bad team is the Lions. It's a shame the sport I would be most interested in getting into is American football. -_-

Yeah, right. Its just another piece of memorabilia of bygone days. It doesn't have to be good, it just has to be there for collectors to fawn over.

I'm a huge Linkara fan, but I don't think this is one of the best. The writing is good and it's still pretty funny, but it's pretty dull source material. It's just a lot easier to make fun of something horrendously, ridiculously over-the-top bad (Amazons Attack, Godzilla vs. Barkley) as opposed to something that's bad but more boring than anything else (like this comic).
It's like how the episodes of MST3K that everyone remembers were stuff like Manos: The Hands Of Fate or Hobgoblins because those movies were comic goldmines which gave the writers a ton to work with. But honestly MST3K had a lot of forgettable episodes because they did a ton of slow paced, low action 50s and 60s films that dragged on and on and didn't go anywhere. A Mickey Mantle comic is like one of those movies. There sort of comes a point where the source material becomes like a giant vortex of boredom and suckiness which starts to swallow whole any jokes you can make at its expense. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that I was honestly too bored with the comic to really care about what Link had to say about it after a while.
I hope that didn't come off too negative, Linkara is still crazy awesome. I just hope he gets back to early 90s stuff and giant crossover events because those episodes are incredible.

09.21.2009 - 22:55 | CondorelThis has got to be the first time I have to disagree with you, Linkara.
You're always entertaining, but let's face it, this comic was clearly a biography, if you don't read it as such you're bound to be disappointed -- don't watch A&E if you're expecting HBO, know what I mean?
Anyway, I was laughing out loud the whole way through your video, but I really don't think this particular comic was worth your wrath. In an era when sports 'stars' are better known for drug use, harassment suits, and gambling scandals than they are for their abilities on the field, is it such a bad thing to tell kids about some 'boring' guy who just happened to be one of the greatest American athletes of all time?
My two cents.

I don't know what you're talking about Linkara. That was some of the most exciting writing I've ever seen. I was on the edge of my seat when Collins made that comment to Mickey!
Funny review as always. Glad you skipped that last part though. My favorite scene of this review is when Mickey stares into your soul.

I hate it when people punch and shatter the wall of reality. Mickey Mattle turned me into a girl! I'm just glad Jackie Robbnson was able to set my gender right, although I now have a tail. Eh, I can live with that.
Wow, you were able to make boring comic interesting, thanks Link.
I went to Minnasota once. You guys have the largest mall. I got a mana potion there.

Twins is loser.
Also, I'm pretty sure "peace out" is anachronistic for 60s kid. "Peace" would be appropriate, though.
No, I am not just nitpicking because you decided to go all "Represent" for The Twins.
alright, I am just nitpicking because you got all represent for the perennial sadsacks.

09.21.2009 - 23:01 | SomewhatY'know... I've never been in to comic books. There were plenty of times I tried, but when I'd pick one up, it bored me instantly. I dunno, maybe it's my aversion to supernatural stories (or maybe I'd just pick up bad ones...). Some just go way too far for me, failing to suspend my disbelief, or, in some cases too heavy and complicated for me to want to figure them out. But the more I watch AT4W, the more I really want to give them another chance (strange, considering it only deals with god-awful ones, but my perverse nature tends to work like that). Are there any comics that would ease me into the comic book world, allowing me to lighten up a bit? Is there a good 'starting point'? Just wondering if anyone had input along those lines...

My first comic book was actually Sin City, "The Hard Goodbye." After reading those kind of books for a while I picked up Watchmen which was awesome. But I still don't know where a good starting point is. I'm in the same boat as you are. After watching these videos I want to pick up comic books but I don't know which ones are worth buying and which ones are worth downloading. I hope Linkara will do a Top 20 Favorite Comic Series or maybe an Introduction to Comics video. We all gotta buy Revolution of the Mask or donate to the site more so they'll have a little incentive.

09.22.2009 - 00:26 | SomewhatOh! I agree! A sort of comic book tutorial episode would be great!
And I keep on thinking about looking into Revolution of the Mask, but always wind up forgetting... :s If I had the money, I'd donate in a heartbeat.

I love Harvey Finevoice! I wish there was a way to make him a regular character.
Also, how awesome would it have been if Abraham Lincoln, Mickey Mantle, and a robot or something have to commit an intergalactic jewel heist to save the life of their good friend Zombie Reagan from the clutches of Niccolo Mech-iavelli? But no, we got something about Mickey Mantle hitting a baseball a dozen times.

09.21.2009 - 23:22 | BigSteveExcellent review. To be honest I was expecting it to be boring only for the content originally shown, but you did an excellent job with it!
But of course, we Minnesotans don't need to be unbiased, because we're Minnesotans, and 1991 was the Greatest World Series Ever! What's that? 2001 and the Baseball in November? Getthefuckouttahere! The 1986 New York Mets winning on Buckner's error? Bah! The Red Sox finally reversing the curse? Psssh. Steroid tainted... sadly.
But yeah, this particular comic just so bizzarely seems to serve no purpose. I do remember that around that time that Topps was issuing a few Mickey Mantle collector's cards... maybe this was some sort of tie-in???? I'd look it up, but I figure Google would be as flummoxed as it was when you looked up the comic's publisher.
