05.31.2009 - 02:36 | Richard WeskerI agree, the anime only covers roughly half of the manga, correct? I want to finish the story, but I prefer to sit with a book in my hands rather than my laptop when reading manga.
I agree, the anime only covers roughly half of the manga, correct? I want to finish the story, but I prefer to sit with a book in my hands rather than my laptop when reading manga.
More accurately, the anime finished when the manga was only half way done being produced, so don't expect the manga to pick up the plot where the anime left off. There are actually some rather significant differences between the two (notably the endings), so which one is better is somewhat debatable. I personally prefer the anime, partially because of its simpler plot, but also because the manga had some really WTF??! plot devices that would have fit better in an episode of Star Trek. And I'm not just saying that to be funny, its downright jarring at times like *spoilers* when the laboratory the villain is running starts playing with cloning technology to recreate Mariko *spoilers*. But nevertheless, its still a good read and has some pretty touching moments not covered in the anime.
I'm just waiting (in vain, I fear  ) for a season 2.

Very interesting series...I have to admit, I'm curious about that Frankenfran one, or whatever it was called..as well as numebr 1.

Franken Fran, its awesome, not only is it funny as hell, it flashes with brilliance, its not just what Y described it as, for instance that whole part where she's being dismantled, that's a movie she's acting it, or a movie based on her. Not every operation ends in horrible disaster, I think its a small percentage that do. Imagine almost all the chapters as short stories with no real continuity keeping them together. check onemanga then have it.

05.30.2009 - 22:51 | eva0001I think Gants and Elfen lied are fantastic Mangas, if you can hold your stomach to appreciate them. Gantz with it's over the top action/violence making a very suspenseful, seeing who is going to move on and who will be left in the dust makes you look forward to each new chapter. And elfen lied uses it's violence/cruelty to get to that feeling deep inside you, and takes hold of your empathy and keep attacking it so you can really feel for the characters, making the whole show all the more touching. :cheer:

05.31.2009 - 02:38 | Richard WeskerI agree about Elfen Lied. I've only seen the anime, but it had me entranced. I actually cared about the characters, and it had some great dramatic moments.

05.31.2009 - 02:43 | Richard WeskerRecent volumes haven't been too bad in that regard. Casca, at least, has ceased to be a potential rape victim every other volume. Volume 29 came out just recently in the U.S., and it really only has one drawn out action scene involving pirates. The rest is all character and plot.

Those certainly are some messed up titles you've highlighted there. All worthy of being on a list such as this.
But come on. No Kazuo Koike works at all? Sure, he did Lone Wolf and Cub, but that's just the quality series he uses to trick you into reading his bizarre other works. Look up this man's body of work if you're not familiar with it. Wounded Man. Offered. Lady Snowblood. Samurai Executioner. Path of the Assassin. Here's a quick look at what Wounded Man is about just to give you an idea of what sort of stuff Koike can turn out, and that's not even really touching the full depths he will go to for the sake of his crazy (brilliant?) plots: http:// subatomicbrainfreeze.type pad.com/ subatomic_brainfreeze/ 2008/02/im-here-to- talk.html

What about Battle Royale? That manga was fucking nasty! It had blood, gore, cussing not to mention a whole Volume about a 16 year old girl who fucks her victims before, while and after she's killing them! She also fucks and kills a little boy! How much more fucked up can you get than that?!
P.S.: Sorry for the overuse of the word "fuck".
-
05.31.2009 - 02:49 | Richard WeskerLOL @ overuse of the word "fuck". I agree, I think BR should have made the list, but maybe Y didn't think it deserved a spot, didn't read it, or thought that the hentai elements disqualified it for the purpose of the video.
-
05.31.2009 - 00:13 | vick86How can you talk about seinen and not mention the works of Naoki Urasawa? Epic fail, dude anyway Berserk probably belongs on that list, another fucked up series would be the drifting classroom from Kazuo Umezu originally published way back in the 70's. It's kinda similar to Lord of the Flies only way worse and way creepier.
Nice to see another vid though and is the next one really that bad now I'm curious.
-
05.31.2009 - 02:51 | Richard WeskerI've read Monster, Drifting Classroom and, as I mentioned above, Berserk. They all rule, and I heartily recommend them. You have good taste.

I joined just to say this. Have you guys heard of or let alone seen the guro h-manga, Mai-chan's Everyday Life? That one and only manga was so sacredly fucked up that the manliest of men could not stomach even the first few pages. I would not want to go through the details though. READ IT IF YOU DARE!!!!

Don't get me Wrong, i really enjoyed your previous videos but i found this one rather disappointing.
Seriously... isn't this site for teens and adults? It's not like this is on tv or anything, you don't need to chicken out. Just that you were so vague with all the manga's you covered that it was hard to me to take a interest.
Also, i have to say that i disagree with you on Gantz, i think the way it's written works well for the type of series it is and always keeps me interested. Whatever, we all have sperate tastes. B)

I had a bad feeling Franken Fran was going to be on. I mentioned it to someone that I read the series. First reaction: The hell's wrong with you?!
About Uzumaki and maybe Higurashi: That stuff might just count for Nightmare Fuel, but not utterly Non-safework compared to others. Then again his selections are pretty damndably vulgar.
-
05.31.2009 - 00:56 | legatoI'm both disappointed and happy Narutaru didn't make it. Maybe it will get a real review then.

05.31.2009 - 01:36 | PlayahAfter seeing this video I looked up for Koe de Oshigoto and read the first volume.
IT. WAS. AWESOME!
The finger fellatio practice scene- priceless ^^ Though why its on the first spot on the list is a good question, becouse it isnt really all that perverted.
But as for the list, Im also kinda dissapointed. No Battle Royale? No Berserk? I can understand Higurashi, becouse anime is more popular then manga anyway.

Man, Franken Fran is so fucked up. The idea sounded kinda interesting...but...man.. .just...man...
And Gantz is definitely one of the shows, where gore doesn't mean better or really makes it worthwhile. I watched the anime and the gore was pretty much a turn off, though in other shows, it's not too big of a deal.
