09.29.2011 - 21:08 | LordNiftyI once read a little bit of yaoi, before I knew what it was. A man was raping his brother as part of a casual conversation. And a dog was somehow involved. I don't want to see any more yaoi.

Love pistols isn't published by Tokyo Pop. I believe it is from BLU. I have the first 4 volumes. Yeah the main characters are boring, but the 3rd and 4th volume have chapters that are barely about them, like the snake and mongoose one.
I love how you think a few pages of rubbing is sex, Love Pistols is no where near as bad as half of the other published yaoi over here. It's extremely tame.
Still kind of interesting to hear a guy's take on it. It is confusing at times but it is still a decent read

09.29.2011 - 22:05 | Moreno XHey YROT, wanna say I like your last video about Nintendo mangas. I was really surprised to see that the Pokemon Adventures allow main characters can actually age unlike the anime show...which it sad. I'm still watching the anime show to this day since it debuted and I can't believe they had to reduce Ash's age back to 10. 10!!?? I don't get it anymore.
I guess, now, I can see the fans who watched the show are now saying the games and mangas are better than the show. Sucks to be me: I don't read mangas or comics...at all. But thanks for the info. Just when will the Japanese producers allow Ash (or any character we know by heart) to age older than leaving them the same height and age. v_v#
I like your stuff dude, you rock! :)

As a fan of Shonen-ai, I got through a few volumes of Sex Pistols before I stopped for basically the same reasons you did. The plot and characters suffer because, well, it's really is just a vehicle for the sex scenes. Though Sex Pistols at least tries to be creative about it, it wasn't enough to hold my interest over a long time.
If you're interested in reviewing other boys love titles that aren't just porn, I have a few suggestions.
Fake by Sanami Matoh: is about the ongoing love story of two cops in New York. It focuses as much on the police cases as it does on their relationship.
Aitsuno Daihonmei (His Most Favorite) by Tanaka Suzuki: This one is a high school comedy that is pretty unique, I think.
No. 6: Studio Bones recently released an anime version of this, which is based on a series of novels. This is easily one of the best boys love titles, if it can even really be called "boys love". It is sci-fi, with a very in depth, thoughtful story. Definitely worth a look. A manga version of this is being released by KINO Hinoki. There are only a few manga chapters right now, but maybe it's something to keep in mind for a future episode. ;)

I was just about to offer up FAKE as a suggestion. It's one of my favorite Yaoi-manga . . . can't say the same about the OVA though but oh well.
And as a Yaoi fan girl I will admit, there are allot of manga out there that are just all about the sex (Level C being one of the oldest that I can think of at the moment, and allot of them are guilty pleasures for me), but there are exceptions.

I am all to familiar with it thanks to inuyasha and a fic I wrote. Not all Yaoi is like this but the "rape" comes off a very forceful and nearly rape...some actually are and it's weird. Does not paint a good light on us gay guys.

09.29.2011 - 23:05 | gameLink12this looks a bit meh to me I'm not fased by the yaoi at all infact ive watched gravitation and liked it to but this reminds me of fruits basket and i did not like that show at all ... oh well keep up the good work man

09.29.2011 - 23:18 | locuasI don't really like this kind of things(i'm a fan of Yuri, tough), but it was a fine review...and the author seems has some mental issues...anyway,i was wondering if you had some plan to Review Magico. By the way, if you decide to review a yuri manga, i recommend Girlfriends.

Ugh. I cannot stand yaoi for this reason. They mostly have the same plot. Enter the weaker of the two and a few things happen. One he is confused about liking boys or hes being picked on. next strong man comes in and rescues....then buttsecks. :eye roll: I just don't get the draw to it to be honest..and whats with the similar drawing style for like every yaoi I have seen my sister read? long faces and fingers ?

I don't like the art for this. It looks like the stereotypical seme and uke roles: the "dominant" one is big and strong and the "submissive" one is frail and more "woman" like. Ugh.
Of course they'd find some way to fit in mpreg in there. =_= But yeah as usual I agree with you. What's with all of that explicit detail about the zooman when it's not really used at all? If you want just guys doing each other, just write that. Make it simple. Also I may have to get that Nine Inch Nails song.

09.30.2011 - 02:09 | MiyukiUsually romance manga has only one of the following:
A) The main character (almost always the submissive one/the girl in the relationship) gets raped by their loved one, and is so claimed to him.
B) Somebody tries to rape the main character, but is saved by their loved one, and they're so claimed to him.
This comic has both! Geeeeeniooouuus!
I have to admit, I was a bit scared to watch this review because I was sure you'd say things like "oh this is why yaoi suck it's all rape blaah blaah", like people in the comments. (Yeah, it's ninty percent rape, but so is het romance smut manga too. >___>) I was reliefed there was nothing like that~
So... I'm sorry I doubted you and thank you? ;w;

The coupling is too rushed. The ones I have read, though, are pretty good.
Someone above mentioned FAKE, I totally agree. Likeable characters (shock/horror!) and each crime is a genuine case of Whodunnit? The relationship between the characters develops slowly over time, even if Dee's very impatient.
But when it comes to sci fi yaoi, the best probably has to be Ai no Kusabi. It's a genuine exploration of the function of castes and classes, and the 'romance' is actually pretty disturbing.

lol
there are some good yaoi titles out there, but this doesn't seem to be one of them, jeez bestiality AND mpreg in one talk about comitment to bad ideas.
what bothers me most about stuff like that is how it colours the opinion of the whole genre as something weird, perverted and just not very good, but I guess hentai probably has the same problem as it were.
but the rape is love cliche is so over-used in yaoi I nearly don't notice it anymore, which is just sad (ohhh japan why so repressed?)
funny review, I would love for you to do some more bl titles(preferably better ones^^)

to quote a friend of mine 'In Yaoi, no only means no the first 3 times'
i use to read yaoi in high school, but i stopped for the reasons you gave, it's not always written well, they start dating for the dumbest reason, and of course, one is a jerk and the other is a weakling. i still have my old Yaoi's, but there's only 3 or 4 still worth reading. one i will recommend to you is Yellow, it's only 4 books long, but the ending is the stuff of legends! [or bad soap opera]

When I first saw summaries about Love Pistols online, I was naturally curious, being an avid fan of yaoi. However, I also could only withstand the first couple chapters. I can't get past the artwork...it is just not my style of art that I care to look at constantly. Also the plot of the animals and breeding is just too confusing to me.
Now, I suggest looking at stories by Makoto Tateno. She has amazing art, and very good stories! Trust me!

Someone pointed this out to me when I was in BAM. I flipped through the first couple of chapters, and while you are correct in that it has some interesting ideas, it struck me as a waste of time. The manga-ka should have spent more time working on the plot than featuring non-stop sex scenes. Or, at the very least, developed the plot immediately after she'd hooked her target audience with the promise of raw gay porn. The fact that this didn't happen does indeed feel like a wasted opportunity.
