The 3rd short is the reason I consider ignoring official canon after movie 5 or so. If the main character does not grow even a year after more than a thousand days, that's just bad writing.

I liked your video overall, especially the google translate-esque subtitles, but I can't agree with you that all narration makes movies worse. For instance, I think "Casino" would have been much worse without narration. And, although not a movie, "Scrubs" has done interesting things with narration.

I should probably elaborate that I certainly don't think all narration is bad. If the narration can tell the audience something about the character or situation that we don't already know or can't already see, and it does it in an engaging manner (aka sin city), that's fine. It's DESCRIPTIVE narrators I despise, that say exactly what's happening, as it's happening without any rhyme or reason except to make sure we get it because the movie doesn't think we're smart enough to get it. That's my beef.

Awesome review. you do great Work Suede. always look forward to your reviews when they come out. Can't Wait for Pokemon 3 Review. Also, Loved the Deleted Scene of you in To Boldly Flee. i really wish the full extended scene could have made it in the movie. I ROFL.

Hate to be redundant, but the Psyduck = psychotic duck scene was awesome.
Nothing like watching Pikachu shorts to pass the time away for nostalgic purposes, and to give your brain diabetes. They're cute, but I wouldn't want to always watch them. Still, I thought it was a nice little tradition to include a Pikachu short before every movie, even if the anime retconned everything else afterwards.
Nice review, Suede! And if what is written at the end credits is true... sorry to hear that :(.

The shorts were good at first, but they serve no purpose and, like you said, they're just passing time to get to the feature-length films. Well, I don't know about you, but I say it was a good thing we don't have to sit through recent shorts on the recent Pokemon movies. That's one of those positive kudos to The International Pokemon Company - the people now in charge of the dub since 4Kids no longer handles them.

Man, I totally forgot about the second short from Pokemon 2000, and yet I can recall what happened in Pikachu's Vacation in spades, even those weird transitions.
You know, when I take away the first movie, Pikachu's Vacation is technically the first anime I ever saw in theaters. If only I had more incentive to go watch a Ghibli movie instead... And I haven't even done that now.

wow, this brings me back, the mid/late 90s were truly amazing, Pokemon, the Playstion, Mortal Kombat movies (the first one, at least), spending time with my cousins during summer vacation, and later, with the kids of our neighbors , I miss those days. :(
It was nice that you bothered to review the shorts from the first and second movies, your riffs were hilarious. XD
also, that Psyduck stare. *Shudders*

I don't know, didn't Disney try to pass off Fantasia to kids? Without narration that thing had to be the most god damn confusing thing ever to kids.. Depends if you want to just classify it "more for adults" like Disney did.
But anyways, enjoyable and funny review Suede. I don't think I ever watched anything beyond the original series/game as a kid, so this is all new to me, lol.

I've read the manga Pokemon Adventures, a Victreebel tries to eat Red in one chapter. Your statement didn't really ruin the Pokemon for me, only reminded me of that scene.

Even back then, the shorts are nothing more than what Nostalgia Critic, Linkara and Spoony said in their Alone In The Dark review: padding.
Seriously, every minute we watch the trio's Pokemon doing stuff and all I can think is padding, non-stop!
Nevertheless, they are guilty pleasures and are fun to riff them. Looking forward for Pokemon 3. Take care.
