Okay now I got that out of the way I should make up for it about halloween themed anime. I am a big wimp when it comes to horror but i guess doing some horror anime is all right for me, but it's still scary for me ;~; anyhow this actually does look interesting to check out at some point, but I should definitely recommend higurashi (that's the only anime that makes me flinch when I watch it) and the anime adaptation of the first two seasons of supernatural (not the greatest but it's decent and jared padelecki voices sam entirely in the adaptation whereas jensen ackles voiced dean for the last two episodes... i did say it's not the greatest).

10.25.2012 - 17:03 | 4ESDMan I missed this show. I downloaded all the episodes years ago and I'm so sad that it hasn't really been a hit in the states. It's such a wonderfully bizarre and unique series.

If you're talking about One Piece's anime, then just drop it. Toei does an awful job and it moves at a snail's pace. Just read it instead. The plot's still going on strong. Punk Hazard is pulling Fishman Island's weight.
As for Neuro, every body go read it! The anime might give some decent material but there's so much more awesome shit not covered. Also if people like Neuro then they should check out Jump's new series, Assassination Classroom. It's by the same author and it's shaping up to be loads of fun.

10.25.2012 - 21:49 | MaugosOK, the simple fact that the main character is a demon that literally eats mystery got my attention. What a wonderfully unique idea.

Squeeee! This a a favorite of mine. When they were scanlating the manga, we had a weird epiphany in the forums though; almost everyone working on the scans & the fans of the anime & manga were girls, even though it's shounen & not at all slashy. We even made polls to confirm it.
Koyasu Takehito: Also known for his singing & his godawful teeth.
------------------------- ----------------------
HOW TO DESCRIBE IT:
1)Beetlejuice: What if Lydia wasn't a goth & didn't want Beetlejuice around? What if Beetlejuice was clean instead of gross & preferred mysteries over bugs?
2)Black Butler: What if Ciel was a hungry teenaged girl & Sebastian ate mysteries instead of souls?
3)Mr. Monk: What if Natalie was a daughter instead of a mother, & what if Monk was a sadist instead of a germophobe?
------------------------- ----------------------
DIFFERENCES IN MEDIA:
Anime: Child friendly, compared to the manga. Better character designs by far. Amps up the comedy element. Story stops halfway through the manga. Completely different ending. Fans are pissed that Neuro & Yako never hook up.
Manga: The 2ed half switches genre from Mystery-Comedy to Action-Horror & gets really REALLY violent & less funny. My favorite secondary character is violently murdered. Fans claim that this arc's bad guy is the most epic villain in epic villaindom, but are still pissed that Neuro & Yako never hook up.

I really wanna watch it now, but all I get is:
"Sorry, this website is only viewable from the US."
Well have to try other sites since Proxys don“t work either. But I feel kinda censored.

Recognized Takehito Koyasu immediately. The guy has a pretty recognizable voice. And he's in EVERYTHING. I didn't know he had his own company and all the other stuff, though. o_o Cool.
Lol the way you pronounce the name Yako. I keep imagining Animaniacs.
As for this anime... yeah, I think I'll check it out. Looks fun enough. I think I might change to the manga version at the midpoint though. I have very little patience for rushed anime-only writing. But I'd like to watch something, even though I tend to prefer manga versions (especially when it's the original medium) and I'm guessing I will with this one too. I'll read that afterwards.

Okay, I finished reading the manga. I watched the anime up until the hot springs episode but then I got restless and ended up going for the manga anyway because I thought it might continue the X/Sai story sooner than the anime.
I liked it and I'm glad I read it. I'm a bit confused about how I feel about it, to be honest, because there WERE problems there and I have to admit that Neuro abusing Yako kinda disturbed me. (Not just because she's a girl, this kind of thing always disturbs me a bit whether it's a female or a male victim and no matter how comedic it is. I just take things too seriously, I guess...) And well I've seen mystery done better. And there was a bunch of ridiculous stuff. And so on.
But... I still liked it, and I did get hooked really well. Staying up way too late to read it too... So, I guess I liked it despite some flaws. Not the best series ever but not everything needs to be.
Btw, am I the only one who found herself shipping Yako with Aya? Anyone? (Although I fear for Yako if that would actually happen...)

10.26.2012 - 02:35 | cannedfuryOne thing I wonder about this series is how much Neuro abuses and controls Yako, yet it's inanely popular with girls for that reason. In everything from generic shoujo to Twilight, that's something people tend to call out. But whether it's by actually having a plot, not being a love story, or making the abuse comedic, this one dodges the backlash. I never thought the mysteries were that good, but that audience balancing act boggles the mind.

I think the balancing works because of a number of differences between, say, Neuro and Edward Cullen. I never got the feeling that Neuro was glamorized like Edward was. Twilight wants you to think Edward is the most gloriously perfect prince perfect who ever perfect...'d. But Neuro? The manga makes no bones about the fact that Neuro is a monster, albeit one who doesn't want to destroy humanity and is benevolent to us in the same way we can be benevolent to the ants in an ant-farm. Neuro is an asshole, everyone reading knows Neuro is an asshole, and everyone in the know inside the story thinks Neuro is an asshole (more or less). There's no big disconnect between what the reader experiences, and what the story presents him as. In short, the show isn't trying to justify or glorify Neuro like Twilight glorifies Edward. It just shows us this demon, and lets us judge him for ourselves.
That and the fact that most of the abuse is played for absurdist comedy too, but mainly the other reasons.
If you sell people an abusive dick and expect them to view him as a glorious golden god, then we will rebel and go "no that's not what he is at all". BUT if you sell us an abusive dick and makes no bones about the fact that he is an abusive dick, then the fans who doesn't like that can still accept the story on it's own terms and the ones who DO like to ship abusive dicks with their victims don't have to suffer through the abusive dick turning all wet noodle on them and being "healed" by Yako's oh so kind and gracious nature.
Perhaps that's another reason- Yako doesn't change Neuro because he finds twue wuv in her (at least, not in my interpretation). Yako changes Neuro because she shows him something he never thought he'd see, a human who challenges and surprises him intellectually. It's not portrayed as a romantic relationship, at least I never got that vibe, and so there's not as much to get the heebie-jeebies over in this as there is in Twilight.
In short- this story is far more honest about what it's main character is, than Twilight. And that's what makes it okay?

Another amazing masterpiece of a review for an anime I can't wait to see after I've torrented it.
Yet it's another U.S Restricted anime viewing site that prevents the U.K from seeing it. D: I don't really see the point in restricting anime, especially since its going to get torrented anyway! It's just tiring to find all your hopes dashed because its U.S only :/
