Certainly a long time between episodes 1 and 2 in this series. Nice of you to be self-aware about that, though.

    I love you.

I remember being incredibly impressed as a kid with an adult pronouncing all but two of the Pokémon's names correctly (Ledyba and Lickitung were the ones, if memory serves [and I know it does because I obsessed over this song as a kid] he pronounced them "LADY-ba" and "LICK-ee-tung" which bugged me but I couldn't blame him for).
  • cbjbill  - you know what i think i just realized why ash neve
he is a immortal. think about it in oder to in order to become a immortal you have to die first ash died in the first movie then was resurrected. so maybe that could be why he never ages. I sure some may say no that not how it work but the only way i see why ash never ages just putting out there.
  • avgnwithglasses  - you are right
i agree with you. a few shows I seen that had an immortal, died first, came back and doesn't age
  • Asuka Soryu
    avatar
No, he's just a cartoon character. They don't age unless the writers want them to.
  • TooMuchFreeTime
OMG finally! I've been waiting for this! :D

This site didn't load at first tonight -- instead, I got a 500 server error that stated the name of the site as

    "thatguywiththeglasses .guyvsthings.com"

Hmm, ya know? HMM. Is a name change in our future?
  • trlkly
    avatar
guysvsthings hosts their nameserver. It may even be their webhost. Unless they are also buying a webhost/nameserver, I don't think we have to worry about a name change.

At long last, the 2nd review of the Pokemon movies!

This was incredibly enjoyable, and I mean the review. The movie, I probably would have been the cynic like you guys, but I would definitely have fun with this.

But one thing for sure from this movie, I still to this day, own the freaking soundtrack to this movie. Yup, and I actually like Polkamon.
  • Rue_Ryuzaki2  - nice.
    avatar
Yeah I saw this movie, but this was around the time I was losing interest in pokemon.
But I must say 4kids you guys did some unnecessary stuff. & I'm with Linkara on the whole japan knew for 12 yrs. (Shakes head)Yeah I really hate it when plot points like that doesnt get translated properly or brought over well. they called them titans instead of gods wow. Just like with thor being called a demigod in the avengers trailer I keep seeing when for the trailers for his movie he is called the god of thunder.. But in all I had fun watching the review looking forward to the next 1.
  • mecham  - Awesome review guys! :)

The jokes were hillarious, not just from the movie, but from the little things as well (i.e. People bugging suede about the vid, Jewwario's character).

Clearly this movie hasn't aged well, but I still get a kick out of that instrumental song they play at the end (track name: the legend comes to life) and it has grown into one of my favorite songs from the series to date.

Suede's a shipper though? Did it just stick with Misty, or did he think other chars. were suittable as well (despite Ash being trapped inside a 10 year olds body).

...and I honestly didn't think "Polka-mon" was that bad. Granted it's not Al's best, but it was an interesting take of the poke'rap. Though your reactions were hillarious enough. Wonder if we'll see it again.

The birds based off of Greek gods? Are we talking the big three here, or otherwise? I could certainly see Zapdos related to Zues, but that gives trouble to Hades and Poseidon; Poseidon being in control of water and Hades in control of life as well as the jewels in the Earth. If it isn't them it makes the question a bit simpler when you think about it, cause in that case, Apollo, god of the sun, would have been the choice for Moltres, and the only greek god of ice and snow is Khione (yeah, try finding her in some well known Greek myth).

Overall, great review guys, and like Linkara, I can't wait to see what you do for movie 3.
  • Bloodrealm
I think he meant that there are many gods, each being a patron deity to a specific thing.
  • fanis01
    avatar
actually I think zapdos=zues which is true and moltress is similar to hades in some way but articuno and posidon have no connection other than ice being made of water.
  • Fangheart
    avatar
...is this video late? I only ask because that's Holokara, and he's supposed to be bye bye.
  • vonPeterhof
Yeah, Linkara mentioned on his site that he thought this video would come out sooner.

Nice review you guys, nice info Justin I really didn't knew how the script, movie and music changed. I can't wait for the third one.

By the way, with the final part, 3 stones put on a pedestal and using a flute to summon something... OCARINA OF TIME, seriously the first time I saw this movie inmediatly that scene went into my mind.
  • Generous Hobo  - Another Great Review!
I'm so happy to see this review! I've been looking forward to it.

    I never got a chance to see Pokemon 2000, and I'm kinda glad I didn't. I hated Lugia. >_
Looking forward to the next one!

YYYYEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAH! The 3rd movie is the best US translation so far, because, not only they altered very little, but Ralph Schuckett went all out to write his best original score. WHICH WAS NOT RELEASED ON CD. F*CK.

P.S. If anyone wants the original US score for the second movie, I put it on YouTube.

Awesome review, can't wait to see the 3rd!
I do hope you guys manage to make it to the 5th and 6th though, my personal favorites.

...also, I disagree. Sammy Oak's steampunk Pokeball was awesome.

I've always liked Tracey as a kid (and pure nostalgia is why I still like him now), but I do think his blandness prevented him from filling in the gap Brock had. I never cared for Brock, but at least he has a distinct personality. Such a shame since Tracey's main schtick (able to observe Pokemon so intently) was pretty damn cool to me.
  • cannedfury
Is that a fansub? Because the exchange is more like
Jessie"Enough. You're 10 years too young to be bickering over relationships."
James"And as your seniors, we're 5 years too late."
Meowth"Don't sweat it, time will never bring you closer to love."

Oh, and great review. These team-ups are fantastic.
  • j4w3z
Actually Linkara zapdos is also a flying type pokemo so that makes him unresistant to electric attacks and i really should not be proud of knowing that should i

Omg, the nostalgia pains! I had this movie on VHS back in the day, and I used to watch it over and over (along with other pokemon VHS) on boring weekends at home. I am really happy that you guys are going for the third movie, cause you can say whatever you want about the story, but the crystallized mansion setting and the animation are absolutely gorgeous. In terms of setting, my favorite has to be the fifth movie which was based in Venice; really made me want to go there when I was little.
Thank you for the trip back to my childhood!
  • Moreno X  - To Trient
The first time I made an experience with Pokemon 2000 was a promotional book of the same name but shorter and brief. Yeah, I was in 9th Gr. and happen to see and read it. Its a book that was for a younger age group than mine, you know? But I'm a Pokemon fan so screw that. I was liking it when I read and made me to one day see the movie, whether on VHS or on TV. Years later, I watch it on VHS and I enjoyed it. Weird trip for me I know.

Ah. Finally I'm given an explanation as to why people hate Tracy. I loved him as a kid, and I never really understood why people hated him but I guess that makes sense.

I still have Pokemon 2000 on VHS at home.

I'm not all surprised Professor Oak's First name is Samuel. It's been common knowledge to me by this point.

I completely forgot Ash's mom had a name though.
  • Moreno X  - To TheAngryAnimeAddict
You're reliving me buddy. I am surprise to learn of a fanbases disliking Tracy, simply because he was the first one to replace a main character from the original trio pack. And I thought this kind of disliking really originated when May, Max, then Dawn, Iris and Clian came into the picture and split our favorite three friends from the original seasons. I'm confuse and annoyed.

I remember Oak's first name and correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the earlier episodes of the show reveal Ash's mother name before this movie? And I couldn't sworn that Suede might be mistaken that Charizard first began obeying Ash in "Chill Charizard" (Johto episode) not before or after this movie. I could be wrong but wondering if I'm right.

I still remember seeing this movie in theaters. It was my best day ever!!

I woke up early, ate a bowl of Pokemon Cereal, we made it to the first showing on the first day, and I got my mew trading card, just like the awesome-ish villain!

It was also the first time that my younger sister and I got to be inside a theater by ourselves. How cool is that??

With how depressed I've gotten thanks to irl teen drama, I doubt I'll ever be that happy again. Kinda pathetic really @___@

Anyway this was fun to watch you guys make fun of it. The third movie is also my favorite!
  • TheGreatPretender
Hopefully next one's gonna come a little quicker.

  • Moreno X  - To sho_sho_maru
Especially when he says to Suede "would you like to play chess Suede?" That line is hilariously imitating :D I think that line can be a meme no?

No wonder he's taking over the site. Oh it's my words, Phelous said so. Beware of the guy who review lamps! Run!

These should be released more often. I can't wait for Linkara's favorite, that should be a nice change ;)

Pokemon 2000 is just big, but the best thing about it is definitely the music, the songs. Even those that don't appear in the movie itself.

Personally, I liked the fact Ash was helped by his friends, but it's true that the message is totally different from what they say it is. It's about cooperation, about "ones" becoming a force after getting together.

On the side note - why didn't they release the 3rd movie's soundtrack? Just the little epic theme that plays during the title reveal, it's the best of all the movies.

And about Oak's first name - 4th movie's ending is fantastic. Totally didn't see that coming and it opens a magnificent plot hole but I loved it. But well, let's save that for later.
  • MrAngryPants

So yeah I've been there and the Sistine Chapel is not nearly as big as what was shown in this video. Maybe the Basilica San Pietro or maybe the Roman Pantheon Building. But I think both of those were smaller than what was shown with that pneumatic chair.
  • Moreno X
If anything I had experienced, the first Pokemon movie was the only one I saw in theaters. This movie as well as Pokemon 3, 4 and 5 I didn't see in theaters but did so at home.

Pokemon 2000 was a okay film, probably a bit better than the first in narrative/character development (yes Suede, I'm a Pokeshipper too.... It's a long story), and that this was happening during the Orange Islands arc - that was when I was already watching the TV show.

Now, I stopped watching the show when I enter 11th/12 Gr. and back then, I thought Pokemon was finished. But nope, turns out it is still going to today. At first glance, I was shock to see that Misty was not with Ash and Brock. I sure miss a lot during the Master Quest/Avanced arcs. So I had to sit through reruns to be updated, and then Diamond & Pearl happened. Fortunately though, I was hooked once again just Iike I had when I started with the original seasons - oh why did my original trio had to departed? Especially Ash and Misty? Blast those writers from Japan *fist shaking*

Well, at least Team Rocket are still together (James and Jessie do like each other). Thanks for the review you three.

PS: sad fact actually, Donna Summer - who sings The Power of One during the credits - sadly died this past May, and really I didn't know. I was aware of Whintey Houston's death but not Donna, and it does make me sad on the fact that I like the song. Sure it was cheesy but now it's inspirational in many shape and form. Plus, she is, was and always be part of my Pokemon experience. Thanks Donna, we'll miss you.
