This is a strange game. I'm seeing elements of Magic, Duel Masters (Kaijudo here in the States) and a little bit of YGO, with a very strange mana system. Actually, this looks fun to play... except for the CP system, which forces you to discard to gain mana (CP). Especially when CP doesn't seem to carry from turn to turn (unlike Mana in Magic, where once a mana is played, it stays and can be used from turn to turn), which makes discarding overbearing. The CP system almost forces you to deckout, which can somewhat defeat the purpose of the game. Instead of being a competitive CCG, it's almost a race against time. Now, if they made it where the CP from cards you discard carries over from turn to turn, then that would make sense. That way you're not forced to pretty much deckout to get decent amounts of mana/CP.
Though, overall it does look kind of fun to play. I'd definitely pick up a starter pack if it ever came to the States.

mana doesn't carry from turn to turn, it used to even hurt you when you couldn't dispense of it, which was called mana burn. They got rid of that, but mana still disappears. Lands stay, but so do backers, so I don't know what you mean.
The discard feaure is mostly meant to speed up the game. It allows you to use your hands in multiple ways regardless of what you have. You know how in magic people can spend 2-3 turns just putting down lands, this game makes that far less of a problem. You can start strong, but you pay the price.
Since you draw 2 cards and you need to discard plenty of cards anyway, you can pack the deck full of backers. I'd probably go for at least 40% backers. If you start with like 4 backers, you can discard 2 to summon 2, which is ideal. If you have the same percentage of fighters, you should get at least 2-3 within two turns (remember you draw two cards), at which point you can start summoning them without discarding cards too many cards.
The main difference between this game and magic the gathering is that you can declare attacks per monster. Everything else can be added with card effects, but this is a crucial difference.
Where in Yu-gi-oh the attacking party had the advantage (due to being able to pick the opponent) and in magic the defending party has the advantage (due to being able to pick what attacker to block with what creature(s)), this game balances it out by allowing the defender to choose how to defend and the attacker to attack one at a time.

Huh, I never knew there was a Final Fantasy trading card game. And it came out just in Japan, only a year ago? You'd think they'd have been on this years ago, worldwide. It should make a lot of money.
I loved that you used X-death at the end. He's the main villain from FFV, my first FF and one of my faves! :)

11.29.2012 - 06:19 | Mokou MoeI think the way they are playing in the video is wrong at some point i used to play it here in Japan.
the thing they got wrong is that the Forward come out Active but cannot Attack not Dull only Backup come out Dulled.
Also you can have unlimited Forward but Backup is limited at 5 and the damage the forward take does not reduce their power for example
power 8000 forward with 5000 damage battle with 8000 full power forward they will both Break because even with 5000 damage the forward still deal 8000 Damage when they battle.
