2:41- Dinosaurs and aliens? They did that in "Dino-Riders," and it looks like a cool idea.
5:16- Someone should ring the Hypocrite Alarm.
9:53- It's movies like this that make me refuse to see animated musicals that arn't made by Disney.
I'm also at a lost of words on the ending, Marzy. I have now fully lost faith in these DTV sequels.

Because, despite the fact that there are people who like to nitpick about small things, and refuse to see any humor due to being too 'grown up' for them, there ARE people -- including kids -- who actually liked the movies, or at least found them interesting enough to watch.
There's nothing that can destroy the amusement and interest of movies more than someone looking way deeper than they should into things that don't follow what makes sense to them, or are incapable of just enjoying something for what it is. There are terrible things, yes, but then there are things that aren't terrible and are just made out to be so by people who over analyze just because they are too old to just enjoy it.

Um, if you're so cynical of reviewers, why do you bother with this site? Seriously, why? You knew what this was before you clicked on it and that this review would most likely match the mood of the other reviews of the DTV sequels.
Besides, I don't think these movies were ever intended to be humorous at all, but dramatic. Is the drama in this movie very good? Not particularly and neither is it very realistic (granted, these are dinosaurs and aliens we're talking about).
Then there's the fact that the adults never seem to do anything but argue. This can teach a kid that it's alright to go and do dangerous things on their own without their parents knowing. Younger children don't always know how to figure out what's good and bad and they can pick up on that sort of message. If they want to entertain a kid, fine. However, they want to educate, not just entertain. Thus, a reviewer should not only look at the entertainment value, but also at the messages being given. MarzGurl isn't being terribly analytical. Most of what's being said is either in comparison with the movies that came before, the discrepancies, and her general reactions since she's been watching these movies in fairly rapid succession.
And you know, just because it's meant for kids doesn't mean it needs to be stupid. Take a look at the first movie, which is what the sequels are being compared to.

Uh, there are plenty of kid's movies that are downright awful, regardless of whether or not children enjoyed them. Hell, there are some kid's movies that kids have hated. Kids aren't as dumb as people take them for, they can recognize lazy animation, they can notice continuity errors, they can notice plot holes and tell when things just don't make sense.
Anyway, when I was a kid, I think I stopped watching the sequels at VI, so I never saw this one or any of the ones after. But I don't even remember anything about the sequels I did watch, other than Chomper, cause at the time, the T-Rex was my favorite dino, and bits from the songs. The only one I could really recall anything from was the first one. If I couldn't even remember the plots of the other movies, could that mean something?
Now, space dinosaurs? Really? Ah well. At least the animation is nicer. One of my pet peeves is crappy animation.

Aliens make everything better, just ask Indiana Jones ::sarcasm::
It's the meteor ::coughcometcough:: from the first episode of He-Man. You know, the one that had a best friend.
Gurl, you really need to get a Continuity Alarm. Linkara might have an old one lying around he can ship to you.
Behold the future: Land Before Time 14: Too Stupid to Live.
I just found out that besides a series of movies, there was also a TV series. Is it just as bad? Since it only got 1 season it can't have been all that great.

I actually happened to watch a few episodes of the TV series a while back, because I had already seen most of the sequels. I figured I might as well check it out for completeness and see if it was of the same quality. It wasn't. It was worse. Far, far worse.
Despite the fact that there are 12 sequels and no matter how bad they got, I always felt that there was some effort put in. Probably not much in most cases, but still, it was there. The TV series has no such efforts put in.
The songs are, if you can believe it, worse than the worst the sequels gave us, and it is even more kiddy and stupid. Chomper was added on as a full time character and they added this new one named Ruby. The animation is also plain old lazy and is also worse than anything the sequels gave us. So yeah, the TV series is wretchedly bad; much worse than even the lowest point of these sequels.(not counting 12 and 13 because I haven't seen those and don't know the quality of them)
Anyway, another good review to add on to your series Marzgurl. You present your points and feelings very well here and I enjoyed seeing you critique it, even though it is a serious guilty pleasure of mine.
By the way, after the last review, I decided to look through all the songs in the series from 7 on to see if there was even one good one. Surprisingly enough, I can say that every one of the remaining sequels has at least one song I can say I was okay with. There are a few that I would even say are quite good. Not many of course, but a few.
I look forward to seeing your next review. :)

'I just found out that besides a series of movies, there was also a TV series. Is it just as bad? Since it only got 1 season it can't have been all that great.'
Err... well, there's this bit about Spike revealed in the TV series.
"In the TV episode "Through the Eyes of a Spiketail", the viewer finally gets the opportunity to see the world from his point of view. He speaks (mentally) with a low voice, similar ot his regular voice. In this episode, we learn that he cannot understand anything people say other than names and foods (Hearing everything else as inarticulate growling and jabbering), sees everything in shades of pink, and apparently chooses not to speak (rather than being incapable of speaking), so that he can avoid arguing with people, and so that he can hear the "song" of every plant around him, before deciding whether or not to eat them. We also learn that he does not actually like going off on adventures, but does so because the rest of his friends do."
Judging by that, and how they oh so thoroughly made Spike out to be so screwed up, I'd say that the TV series was rather odd.
I liked most of the movies, but lost track after the eighth one or so, and never even bothered with the TV series.

Considering that I only remember seeing this once, as opposed to the previous films which I watched several times, I think this is the point where I really started to doubt the series's future. Maybe it was because I was outgrowing the target audience, but I don't doubt the overall poorness of the whole played a role.

03.22.2011 - 23:10 | SleepNeedAnd I thought that it couldn't get worse. I remember that in elementary school on the days when they couldn't let us out for recess or in the beginning of the day before classes started they'd plop us in the cafeteria and show us cartoons, one of them being the Land Before Time series. I am glad that I never had to deal with the third and above sequel...
I am both curious and scared to see of whats to come.

03.22.2011 - 23:20 | I, Da Ca$hmanOkay, so I do remember this, yet I don’t think I ever did watch VI.
Honestly, "Beyond the Mysterious Beyond" I thought was actually a pretty good song. Until I remembered it was a rip-off. Whatever, I can't wait to see how crazy this will get. At least I'm DEAD CERTAIN this is the end of my personal experience with The Land Before Time.
These series of videos completely tear apart my Nostalgia with these films...and I laugh at it in complete happiness.

03.22.2011 - 23:42 | JMShearerThey ran out of ideas for these after about the second one, didn't they? And yet, there's still another six to go after this one.
For the longest time, I've been joking with myself that should I ever have kids of my own, they'll wind up with something like Land Before Time 53 and wondering how it managed to keep going so long without anything to do decent stories about.

03.23.2011 - 01:42 | TrilaanusWhen do you think they'll make the heart-wrenching, tear-jerking Land Before Time sequel when Cera discovers that she was adopted?
Why not throw in this twist? It's not that her top horns haven't developed yet but that they never will because she's a monoclonius! Let's send her through the emotional wringer of "My life is a lie because I was adopted and they didn't tell me!"

Just wait. The last 2 movies deal mostly with Cera dealing with her dad falling in love with his long lost childhood sweetheart, getting married, and then Cera being all pissy over having to share her dad with Tria (her step-mom) and half sister Tricia (who is absolutly adorable) while Little Foot is totally emo over the fact that his father is never around and cares more about his adopted brother Shorty (seriously that's his name) than him. *lol*

The was the movie that made me aware that there were a lot of Land Before Time sequels. Not because I seen it, but because I seen a commercial for it. I was either a teenager or preteen when I saw it but I remember saying, "Wow. They a Land Before Time sequel, but not just one but six of them. Just wow."

Actually, when I was little and this came out, it was my fav in the series BECAUSE of the alien dinosaurs and I loved the Beyond the Mysterious Beyond song. Little me might've been silly but I still don't quite see the alien dinosaurs as being such a terrible thing to put in this very late in the series...
Still, I do get the other things you commented on. And everything else you've said of the series thus far. My little sister's fav of the series was always 6, because she liked Dana and Dina and thought they were cute.
