You are so brave to be subjecting yourself to these movies, MarzGurl. I don't think I could even stomach this one as a kid. I salute you.

    OH...MY...GOOOOOOOOOD!
    I can't believe it!!!I thought there are only 3 parts of that lame(i mean the cartoon)! I can't breathe....oh,shit....
MarzGirl, I really respect you, you're really brave woman and... I hope, that was the last review of that horror)the review itself was great but I won't stand another one!

marzgirl, I mean this in the nicest possible way, but you are SOOOO much more enjoyable to listen to when you're off camera and reviewing things. Seriously, I've enjoyed every single one of these LBT videos, and I hadn't enjoyed a single ANE before them. You're just so much less awkward and far more well spoken.

this movie was probably the cause of rule 63

with that said. its the best of the sequels, it REALLY starts to hit the crapper at number five, and while the animation got better at number seven...the stories.....
    ....well number seven had aliens...

DEAR GOD WHAT DID THEY DO THE THESE MOVIES?!?!

(and little foot and ally do meet up back in the show that doesn't exist and no one shall talk about, and it surely didn't have pond music for its opening theme)
  • Taku
...I didn't think you were serious about the aliens, and then I looked it up. Just...what the hell.

Also, Jim Cummings did a voice in the seventh movie. What.
  • austin42

Eh, Tress MacNeille has been in all of these movies, as well as Rob Paulsen.

I kinda liked the aliens, until we found out they were aliens. Don't know why, but they are the only thing I can remember from that movie.

After Number 1 it all went downhill pretty much, by pretty much I mean they sometimes didn't get worse but they definitely never got better

Honestly I don't see how Spike talking can really ruin the entire series. Yes, the charm was, he never spoke. But the one time he even spoke was just out of worry for his sister and what not. You know what the real moment of ruin is? The alien reveal in the seventh movie. That in my opinion pretty much ruined everything after that. So yeah, while I agree with a lot of things, Spike talking wouldn't be one of them. It's still a good look at the movie no less, and I can't wait to see the next one.

I think (for me at least) is that its one of the only characters who didn't really seem to be stupid. His silence is kind of like an assurance of sorts (not an ultimate assurance, but a subtle one) that he can be the quiet, smart one who did the "right" thing in the current situation. With him talking at all, they insert into the rest of the movies that he CAN talk, and they are going to use that, which will end up making him nothing what he was before.

Aliens in this series, as you said, is the last straw for this series of movies, and the fact that they got THAT many squeals, is ridiculous.

On the topic of the review, as the others, I enjoyed. A critical look into not only basic storytelling and character writing evaluations, but how they don't fit into the continuity of the first, and the predecessors. I agree with your views on this movie, and am looking foward to the rest of this series. It's also very brave of you to do all of them, so good luck!

I can sort of agree. But him speaking out of concern doesn't really work either. They've all been in 'serious' danger before and he hasn't uttered a word. So why is this time somehow more life threatening then the other life threatening moments?
  • 10.0.0.1
"...what awaits me in the next 9 movies" you really do want to reduce yourself to a whimpering ball in the corner don't you?
  • Sindragosa
Spike talking has to be the BIGGEST Big Lipped Alligator Moment EVER. To my knowledge, though I admit I haven't seen all of the movies nor the animated series (that's right MarzGurl. There's an ANIMATED SERIES. What could go wrong?), Spike talking is never really mentioned again. That, or none of the danger present in the next movies prompt him into talking like Ducky's death by blind alligator scene.
  • trlkly
    avatar
Exactly. That's why I couldn't understand why it ruined anything. It never happens again. I think they were planning on this being the last one, and they wanted to show growth. That also explains the mammal.

I also assumed Ally would see Little Foot when they died.

3:09- You're not alone, Marzy. Even "I" couldn't believe it when I first saw the box art for this movie, and I STILL don't.

6:54- Or "Oh, poor Littlefoot, no more Nintendo Prehistoric for a week if you get out of this alive."

11:16- Hold on a sec. (Gets out cell phone, dials a number, and waits for an answer) Hi, bull$h!t.

Can't wait to see how much the other sequels butt rape the original masterpiece.

Woot, I didn't see this movie, which means my sequel count is still at two. How did they manage to get 13 of these? I mean, I can't imagine them being a financial success, and I don't believe there was a land before time fanbase demanding more.

That said, these sequels can be used to say something. At one point in time, animated characters could say die, dead, death, and all variants without the rating being raised, but nowadays such a word is taboo, and the proverbial shit hits the fan if animators dare to show it. I'm sure there's social commentary somewhere in there, but I'm not the person to say what it is.

When Little Foot's grandmother started to sing, I was expecting you to make a reference to the Lion King.

Sitting through such abominable movies. I remember when I watched a whole LBT movie marathon once, while I was sick at home. It was horrifically bad but I couldn't stop watching! It's burned into my mind forever! No, no, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOO!!!

... Ahem. Good luck to you. And don't worry. I watched through them and I'm still perfectly sane!

Shut up Larry! I won't set everything on fire, give it a rest already!
  • Rhomega
I've only seen I-VI, but does Spike ever talk again?

Oh my god I've seen this one too. Did I suppress my memory of these bad movies or something? Once again you did a great job. I'm really enjoying these videos.

How are you not GOING CRAZY by now, having to watch all the sequels?! It's like it's just one whole day's worth of monotonous animation!

Were paleontologists already arguing that Sauropod-type dinosaurs can't raise their heads vertically when these came out?

I think that Alligator-looking thing might be a Deinosuchus. He's certainly chunky enough.

Does Sarah remind anyone else of either Sally or Lucy from Peanuts?

What were they thinking, giving him THAT voice?

Wait, are you telling me that there are MORE than 4 of these? :X Talk about beating a dead horse with it's own leg.
  • ttime23  - Um...no
Nope. There is no 5th movie. I completely agree with you, Marzgurl. Spike talking completely ended the series. Not only that, it wasn't even said right and the voice was completely wrong for Spike. I mean, how can you mess that up? He's a stegosaurus and a male one at that. I mean, in the first movie, you hear him laugh. That voice and this voice is completely opposite, I just...Ugh.
I only saw or knew of up to IV. How in the world have you even gotten a hold of the other ones? As far as I know, there was never any sort of announcement or promotion for these other ones! However, I still enjoy watching these reviews. We certainly appreciate your falling on the proverbial sword.
  • pokeplayer984
Actually, let me just correct you on one little thing, MarzGurl. Ali and Littlefoot actually do meet again, but that's not until the TV Series, which aired in 2007. However, trust me, as someone who's seen it, the episode sucks!

I must also agree that Spike's talking did not ruin it. Indeed, there are worse things to come.

And this is coming from a FAN of The Land Before Time. (And I'm not afraid to admit it.)
  • MegaAlexandro
You suck so bad that it's actually entertaining. Keep 'em comin' :D

I guess you could justify Littlefoot's grandma telling the other kids about his disappearance, considering the fact that the adults wouldn't do squat.

This is a pretty epic crusade you've taken up, MarzGurl. But we're behind you all the way!

I was liking this video a lot. Smirking, chuckling, being quiet and enjoying it all the way through. Well done, MarzGurl.

Until you said there were 9 more movies to go.

Then I screamed. Aloud. Very loudly.

    My words exactly:
"AH! OH GOD! THERE'S NINE MORE?? DON'T DO IT MARZGURL!"

They really should have stuck with non-talking villains. As far as I know, every villain that talks in this series is just lame.

The Sharptooth in the first movie was awesome because he didn't speak. That's what made him so menacing.
The alligator in this one...not so much.

I have some good news regarding the whole Spike thing: You're not gonna hear him talk a whole lot in the other films either. They practically forget that he says one line in this film.

I'm not sure if I've actually seen this sequel or not. Parts of it are familiar (actually, only Little Foot and Ali meeting is familiar), but I can't remember a thing outside of those moments. I was probably too old for them at the time, watched a bit of it, then went off to do something else.

I find it funny how these corporations refuse to let any word explicitly related to death show up in these kids shows when my four year old nephew oftens asks while we're watching stuff if a character is dead. (Or one priceless phrase he dropped 'Baby Jesus is dead'.)
  • Robert the Kid

Oh my god this is the one that broke me. After watching this film at the age of 9 I quit watching the series. So when ever I watch reviews of the series pass this point I'm completely blind to the plot. I just know that the movie is stupid and shouldn't be watched.

This is the only one of the sequels I genuinely remember from my childhood, so this review was a bit of a treat for me. I had no idea there were so many sequels though, I thought they stopped at 8.

Oh God, watching these reviews makes me feel like a little kid. I'm not sure that's a good thing. XD

Just wait till you get to the one where Littlefoot meets up with his deadbeat dad....yeah. And then like 2 movies later Sarah complains about her step-mom (yes she gets a step-mom..and then an adorable half sister) and Littlefoot's like "Well at least your dad is around!"....so yeah...Littlefoot has angst issues.

The next movie tho brings back Chomper...who is now bilingual. He can speak English (the language of the plant eaters) and uh Wookie (the language of the meat eaters).

Chomper is also one of the main characters in the tv series. His parents fear for his saftey cuz of this big bad sharp tooth that's terrorizing the hood...so they send him to the great valley...for his safety....yeah...

I rather liked Land Before Time 7. The alien dinos were actually interesting. Certainly more interesting than the lone ranger er uh Lone Dinosaur...despite him being voiced by Kris Kristoferson (course the 6th film is also the only time it's mentioned that Cera has much much older siblings. Siblings old enough to have kids...as 2 of her NIECES pop up)

As for Spike's voice tho. Hey now...That's Rob Paulsen there. Don't be dissing Rob Paulsen. :P
  • TJB
So basically Chomper got in one little fight and his mom got scared and said "You're moving in with your friends in the Great Valley."? ;)

One of these movies was on tv the other day here... Something with the Day of the Fliers. All I was thinking was "Wakko, no... how could you?" ;)
  • kibbles2000  - Spike talking
Although it was cringe worthy, I don't think it ruined the franchise. Besides, that's pretty much the only time he speaks until one of the later movies. He just says one word. Just like here. Not that big a deal.

Chomper comes back in the next one...oh boy. Can't wait to hear what you have to say about that.
  • Tasty Salamanders  - Ali
You mention that she never appears again despite what the Narrator says, however she does in fact appear in the TV series, though I don't know if you're counting that. Also I had never bothered to check before but it seems the 13th movie was released around the middle of the TV series.
  • Kimarous

Spike talks once, shame on you; Spike talks twice, shame on me. I shrugged off this apparent oneshot instance and persevered until the eighth movie, where he talks again. That wasn't the deal breaker, since "The Big Freeze" is just bad overall; regardless, that's when I finally stopped watching the series.

This technically wouldn't count as RACISM, as it would be really SPECISM.

Ally does show up again during the TV series.

They gave it a TV series? I'm surprised it got as far as it did with the movies. It's pointless & unasked for, like remaking The French Connection staring Justin Bieber.
