It's a bit distracting and makes it hard to understand and/or focus on what you're saying. Which is a shame cause what you were saying was interesting and informative.
-
12.17.2010 - 11:07 | shaunaforceFortunately it seems to get fixed around the 2 minute mark, mostly we miss some info on Goof Troop.

Great review Marzgurl. I can tell you did a lot of research for this one. This really took me on a trip down memory lane. I think try to find some DVD releases of the shows you talked about now.
Also just so you know the background music was a little too load. I had a hard time hearing you at points

EDIT: Oops, seems like other people already mentioned the sound issue. My bad! I'mma go ahead and delete that...
Ahh, I remember watching the Aladdin TV Series. (oh gosh, I must have been like 5 when it came out) Even at such a young age, I was able to tell that the animation quality was crap in comparison to the first movie. It was similar to the 2nd & 3rd movie, like you said...but yeah, probably all due to a budget cut xD; (Little Mermaid's TV series was just as bad quality)
Though I think there was more to it than just Al and friends getting in trouble and ticking off the Guard. There was also random bad guys, some of which were re-occurring characters. (like Mozenrath, Mirage, etc)
But yeah, wasn't a huge fan, but my older sister watched it all the time, so I got stuck with it XD
Looking forward to the next video!! (Hopefully no Bambi 2 bashing since it's lumped in with the other straight-to-video squeals...WHY DO I CARE SO MUCH ABOUT BAMBI? /sob)

There was an even bigger "personality shift" during Bonkers that you didn't bring up. In the Lucky episodes, it's specifically shown that Bonkers and his former co-stars were actors and not completely like the characters they portrayed on his show. Then in the Miranda episodes, they did take on those same traits, like Bonkers being in love with Fawn and Grumbles hating Bonkers. It was almost like two different shows within the same series.

Darkwing Duck always reminded me more of a Looney Tune than Disney (sort of like Daffy Duck in Duck Twacy). Initially, I hated it (I was 10 at the time) because it wasn't what I was expecting, but later, I came to like it.
On the other hand, I unabashedly hated Goof Troop. I guess it might have been the premise -this was the first Disney Afternoon show where the heroes weren't adventurers, but just suburbanites who weird things happened to. But I LOVED A Goofy Movie. It was one of my favorite movies for many years, and I still like it very much.
Never cared for Aladdin the TV series. Too much time spent disabling the Genie so that Al had to solve the problems on his own. It was OK though, I guess.
I liked Bonkers (despite hating the Raw Toonage cartoon shorts), but I never liked it as much as my big obsessions from 1993, Animaniacs and Sonic SatAM. I remember once beginning a Bonkers fanfic comic where Lucky came back for a guest appearance after Miranda took over, since the series never bothered to do that.
Supposedly, the Bonkers "Miranda Episodes" were done first, but due to dissatisfaction with them, the "Lucky Episodes" were created and made to run first chronologically. This explains why the entire supporting cast of the "Lucky Episodes" also leaves when Lucky does, despite having no real reason to do so, and also why, in a Miranda Episode, Bonkers says that he's never had pets before, despite having had a pet dog, Toots, throughout all the Lucky episodes. According to Wikipedia, the Lucky episodes were shown first. After that, in syndication, it would be hard to tell which was supposed to come first, since the series would keep ending and beginning again (i.e., if they were showing them in order, the last Miranda Episode would be followed by the first Lucky Episode when the loop began again, and the last Lucky Episode would be followed by the first Miranda Episode, and so on).

My main complaint is the music in the background. It's a bit loud and I can't make out what you're saying. Plus it's a bit annoying to have the goof troop theme song play so much.
You roughly brought up the weird storyline of Bonkers but it was really because the Miranda episodes were made 1st. Disney didn't like the quality of the animation and they wanted a show to tie in with Roger Rabbit. So the Lucky episodes were made, and I enjoy them far more then the Miranda ones. There were episodes made to tie into each part, meaning there was a pilot made where Bonkers lost his cartoon show to become a cop with Lucky and then an ep where he looses Lucky to get Miranda. But even in the Miranda eps it's shown that there were things that happened that ment these events took place 1st. Plus it doesn't help when the networks don't show them in order. (edit: Haha, someone explained it before I did...oh well)
It's been a while since I've seen these old cartoons, and it'd be nice if they put them on DVD so we can really figure out who made what and why.
Good effort looking into the different animation studios. That can be hard work, looking for the right one. Can't wait for more.

12.17.2010 - 02:27 | TabithaIt was good, but goof troop theme song is driving me nuts.

Yup, BG music is too loud like everyone else said, but....there are more problems. You should have done a bit more research. A quick trip to Wikipedia would have told you that the Miranda episodes of Bonkers were made first, but Disney hated them and retooled the show mid-production.
They broadcasted the Lucky episodes first (well, most of them first) and created a transition episode where Lucky left and Miranda replaced him. Annoyingly, this episode got banned for having a terrorist in it, so nobody watching Bonkers after 2001 knew what was going on.
Also, watch some more blasted Aladdin cartoons besides "Air Feathered Friends," BEFORE you judge the entire series. Here are five for you to consider before you bash it completely:

Okay, So MarzGurl, You know I love you, and I'm only trying to make your contributions better. With this in mind:
1) Endlessly looping theme songs! Not. Good. And I can agree with people that said that the BGM was too loud at some points, it distracted from what you were saying. And endless loops annoy me greatly also.
2) They did actually do a good job of coming up with some Wacky villains for Aladdin to fight in the show. Also, Dan Castallaneta's Genie was a fair approximation of the character, even if it didn't have Williams' magic touch to it.
Aside from that, great vid.
And them shows were awesome. They were the only thing that got me through School years. (Don't ask.)

12.17.2010 - 04:06 | Kremzeek!Another point about Bonkers: You forgot to mention Raw Toonage, a Disney show on CBS Saturday mornings from which the character of Bonkers originally came, as well as Marsupilami.
I also remember CBS had a Little Mermaid cartoon on at about the same period. I never watched it because a) I AM A MAYUN and b) I think The Tick or Eek the Cat was on Fox at the same time, but did DisneyToon do these cartoons?
Very informative and interesting as always Marz!

12.17.2010 - 04:39 | RutanaPete actually is supposed to be a cat.
I can say that so sure, because of it's german name ^^
With only little exceptions, nearly all classic Disney characters (such as Mickey, Donald, etc) were renamed here in fitting the Name - Animal Style, like Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, etc.
So Pete was renamed to "Kater Karlo", Kater is the german word for male cats.
Goofy wasn't renamed btw, he just stayed... Goofy... without any Animal-Name afterwards.
And another big exceptions are... the nephes of Donald. I don't know their exact US Names (Louie is one, I know that XD), but in germany, they called "Tick, Trick and Track Duck". Yeah, they stayed with Duck as another exception, instead of the german "Ente" XD
So, this three stay out with having a T instead of a D ;)

Goofy actually had a son in some of his earlier cartoons from the 50s which looked as if he had mated with a human-toon. Whether Max is supposed to be the same son is never mentioned, and they never showed the original mother in the old cartoons.
Bonkers was originally a character from a show that played on network TV called Raw Toonage which were just shorts about him. This was apparently all Bonkers adventures he had before he was fired from the studio and became a cop.
Aladdin didn't just run on syndicated TV. It also had seperate episodes broadcasted on network TV and the Disney Channel. So the collected 86 episodes was actually from all those showings combined.

Yeah, he was a little red-headed kid referred to as "Junior", and while Goofy actually had a wife in those cartoons, we never saw her face. (She was always shown from the back or with close-ups on her hands, etc.) As far as the "human-ness", in some of those cartoons, Goofy was more humanized too, losing the big floppy ears and going by the name "George Geef."
I always wondered if Max was supposed to be Goofy, Jr. grown older.
-
01.06.2011 - 00:11 | Project_HHis name was Junior, and since Goofy's son's name is Max it begs the question is Max, Goofy's first name? Is he suppose to be called Max Goofy? I always wondered what happened with Goofy's wife did she die or just couldn't take the excessive goofiness *Awhyuck*. Also Junior's fur color was reddish brown and he had a pink nose and no ears, weird. I wish Disney would just turn back to Disney instead of what it is now, Hell even Nickelodeon has gone the same route, Spongebob alone can't carry the channel forever...

Wasn't Duck Tales the Movie done by the French studio?
http:// i4.photobucket.com/ albums/y132/Jesterangelo/ PDVD_010-2.jpg
from the end credits of Lost Lamp.
Also love Jim Cummings, and Goof Troop also has Rob Paulsen as P.J. a personal favorite of mine.
As for Dan Castallaneta as Genie, I'm sure Robin Williams was to expensive. I mean, he's a big name (especially at the time) Hollywood actor. At least they got a very talented voice actor to do the role.

12.17.2010 - 09:38 | August M.
Actually, he was set to be in the 2nd part and the show but some arguments happened with him and Michael Eisner, so he left. Eventually, they settle their differences and Williams appeared in the 3rd one and the Great minds think for themselves commercials. Then more arguments happened thus leaving from voicing in Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2.
-
01.06.2011 - 00:21 | Project_HJim Cummings practically voiced all the shows, In Chip'n Dale he was Fat Cat, Prof. Nimnul and Monterey Jack(took over the role from Peter "Optimus Prime" Cullen). He was Darkwing Duck and Nega Duck and Herb Muddlefoot, Razoul in Aladdin, Bonkers and Lucky. He's just amazing as Marzgurl and Doug have already stated he has Mad Skillz in the voice Department.

Actually a lot of the Aladdin series didn't take place in Agrabah. A lot of the episodes involved Aladdin traveling to some far off place of magic and ancient artifacts. It was all awesome, even to this day. I will admit, however, that aside from The King of Thieves, the animation after the first movie was a little choppy.

Good vid and all, but I don't think you've seen enough of the Aladdin series judging by your comments. There's an assortment of interesting villains for the series, one of the best being Mechanicles, and like another said, at least half of the storylines take place outside of Agrabah. Also, I'm amazed that you didn't bring up the reason behind Robin Williams leaving Disney, especially since thatfellowinthecoat brought it up more than once in his videos related to Disney. But then again, that's more of a small detail anyway.

12.17.2010 - 10:13 | sereiaI don't think you actually watched the Aladdin TV series if you think that all it was made up of was pissing off Razul.
And the background music is really LOUD. I found myself singing along with the Goof Troop theme song in my head rather then listening to your points, which were actually good.

I really do love the review, but i really think the music comes off as being really distracting. I think the volume on the music needs to drop down a few decibels so that's its more in the background... as it is I have a little trouble concentrating and what you're saying because of how loud the music. Same goes for the last review aswell.
-
(Could lower the background music level just a tad in future reviews?)
Goof Troop - Didn't like the show, but really enjoyed the movies. I actually thought Peg was the most likeable character in the entire show. As for why the daughter is named Pistol, one of Pete's names in one of those old Mikey shorts is Pistol Pete.
Aladdin - Loved that series. They say you can measure a hero by his villains. Well Mozenwrath and Mirage were both excellent villains. Too bad they didn't want to shell out for Robin Williams though.
Bonkers - Wow I hated that show with a fiery passion. The only Disney Afternoon show more annoying was Snookems and Meat.
Even if Rescue Rangers and Darkwing Duck were not made by Disneytoon, you should go back and give them a review for us. Especially since you said Darkwing was your favorite, and they both just got new comic series started this year. (2010)
Love the reviews, keep up the good work Marzgurl!

actually the Alladin cartoon was one of my favorite shows from the time, way better than that stupid Hercules cartoon, whose best episode was the crossover with Alladin. Also, I rather liked Pete's family from Goof Troop, its funny to see what a classic disney villain's family life is like. The Bonkers cartoon is also kind of underrated, I think its biggest problem was being on at the same time as the original Batman TAS, kind of like how Sonic was cursed to be on at the same time as Power Rangers.

12.17.2010 - 14:05 | Badly Drawn Manchild
I think the only major complaint I have about this series is the choice of music. I think you need to pick something more neutral for the compilation sequences that aren't tied to a specific cartoon; seriously, the Goof Troop theme was really beginning to do my head in, it was repeated that much!
Other than that, it's a nice series so far, though maybe specifically focusing on the DisneyToon Australia cartoons is limiting your options somewhat. On the other hand, I suppose you made the choice so you could give more time to each cartoon, which is understandable.

Alas Childhood, i knew thee well.
Who am i kidding I LOVED THESE SHOWS. Darkwing duck, tale spin, ducktales, goof troop, i enjoyed the lucky bonkers at times, Aladdin, gummy bears, GARGOYLES, chip and Dale rescue rangers, THe mighty ducks was interesting for being originally a hockey movie with whatshisname, OH OH DISNEY HOW THE MIGHTY HAVE FALLEN LOW AND SOLD THEIR SOULS TO A BUNCH OF TEEN HARLOTS THAT DO NOTHING BUT SING...stop that your not going into a song while i'm here....BUT THERE IS SALVATION IN THE FORM OF YOUTUBE AND MARZGURL WHEN COPYRIGHT NAZIs stay away, as to those direct to video/dvd movies, some where good like Aladdin three others........well lets just say i believe Hunchback 2 is the HIGHLANDER 2:The Quickening of DISNEY sequels
