I'm not the only one to remember this turd. There are so many things I could rattle off about how awful this is, including Aussie Kenshiro with a mullet, but I'll leave it at how much it pained me to watch this movie and that it stands as an example of why I thoroughly hate the '90's.
And it wasn't straight-to-video originally. It premiered on HBO! :-)

I recently met Dante Basco ('Ru-fi-oooooo!!!') and he was really, really nice to chat with. I didn't know he did voice work on so many anime/manga. If I'd known about this movie at the time, though, I would have had to congratulate him on being one of the only saving graces of it LOL
This is one of my favourite MarzGurl vids - it just made me laugh so damn hard :) Looking forward to more!

Sadly, you could definitely see the wasted potential of this movie. Kinda like Cool World.
Anyway, I really think this is quite possibly your best video. You've really improved your pacing for the review, you vocal delivery more varied and expressive, and your jokes are better.
I loved the time-of-birth and time-of-death gag for when Rufio died, and your delivery on the corset joke gave me small cramp from laughter.
Keep up the good work.

11.03.2010 - 01:22 | LordNiftyPretty cool review. I think that it could have used some South Park dialogue about Cartman threatening to kick people in the nuts, and actually showing some footage of Rufio's death(at least the similarity was noticed, though). Finally, will Doug seek vengeance for your purloining of his "Seriously" bit?! I guess only time will tell...
Seriously, though, nice review.

This movie is to Fist of the North Star what Dragonball Evolution is to Dragonball. Your review gave a lot about the flaws of the movie and how it doesn't work with the anime/manga.
1. Isn't the Nanto Seiken a martial art about slashing your enemies with air pressure and about being swift and graceful like a bird?
2. How could they killed off Bat. He's Bat! He's technicly the main character outside of Kenshiro. Hell, the time skip is mostly centered about him and Lin (Or Rin according to the translation of the video game).
3. Is that Kenshiro? He's a disgrace to the man himself. Not that Ken already has angst but he's reacting better than punching.
4. At least they didn't have Rei, Yuda, or Souther (Or Thouzer according to the game) or better yet, no Toki or Raoh (I hate to see How Raoh will look inb that movie, or his horse).
Seriously. It's like DB:E but at least, with this DB:E, I have this "fun to watch" badness but this movie... it's just leave a bad taste.

I don't mean to be nit-picky but that little "pokety-poke" bit with the presure points is based on a real style that Bruce Lee did indeed use. It's called "Wing Tsun" but the strikes were supposed to be like being hit with jack hammer... Watch "Ip Man" for a more true to life version of a really impressive Kung Fu Style. Other than that awesome of a little known anime adaptation. Can I request a review of the "Guyver" live-action series? A manga adaptation with Mark Hamil, Jimmie Walker, and David Hayter so bad it's actually kinda' fun to watch if you keep your expectations low..

Dude - I've seen this movie and it's really not that bad if you can get over the fact that it's not a carbon copy of the manga or a big-budget film.
Sean Penn turns in a really good performance as Jackal and is pretty obviously loving playing a villain, and that huge dude - Goliath - is former wrestler Vader.
Aside from this, you missed the biggest botch of the movie: in the scene where Kenshiro goes through a few dozen goons, one of them changes jackets between takes.
Really, it's not that bad. If you like cheesy, campy kung fu movies it's definitely worth a watch. If you're a die-hard fan of the manga that wants to see the story brought to life verbatim, probably not so much.

11.03.2010 - 05:40 | CrimsonMoonMistI wa-s shock-ed how silly they could make Freakin' Kenshiro look in a fight.
-
11.03.2010 - 07:22 | TBTabbyOH GOD THAT WAS AWFUL. I don't know if it's possible to make Kenshiro's Hokuto Hyakaretsu Ken look cool in live-action, but this film gives me little hope.

11.03.2010 - 07:45 | timotakaOh boy. This movie looks... not *quite* as bad as I've heard it to be. The scenery is nice and the results of Ken's fighting is reasonable. I'm surprised at how well Costas Mandylor pulls off the screen presence Shin should have. Groomed and well-dressed, yet badass. Still, overall verdict is lousy. Story of Ricky shows how to do something like this right.
