Interesting how you point out the circumstances of Kahn leaving 4Kids. I haven't really heard of anything about 4Kids in the past several years except for the news that you bring us Marzgurl. Unfortunately, 4Kids has to deal with anime publishers like Viz Media that don't need to rely on their dubbing services in order to reach the American market. As more Japanese publishers start finding alternate ways to reach English-speaking audiences, 4Kids is becoming more and more obsolete.

Why dont YOU sign up for that CEO post, and get everything good into your legal market, and stop the nonsensical and crappy censorship!

Eh, I could go either way with Kahn jumping ship or being ousted. I mean let's face it, their DVD releases aren't all that bad, and they did really start up bringing anime to the casual audience. My biggest issue was with Dragonball Kai there. But Kahn himself, he didn't seem all too bad.
That "severance" package seems too good to be true if he did decide to leave on his own terms.

01.20.2011 - 02:54 | nuetrolSo basically, he ran the company into the ground, then left before it could go bankrupt? Wow, he's a modern day Ray Kassar (the CEO who did the same to Atari in the early 80s).

In my own personal opinion, 4kids have dug their own grave.
I mean, Firstly, and Most importantly, the name itself. 4Kids. For Kids. Doesn't inspire much confidence that they can handle the serious, adult and often controversial output of the prosperous shame-based society that is the old Nippon/Nihon, now does it?
Secondly, even if they'd only gone after child-friendly anime, the differences in culture would have led them to feel the need to cut or change things for US Audiences anyway. And the fact that they removed and changed so much (Blue Mr Popo, anyone?) just added to a very, VERY bad reputation.
Finally, with all these nails in their coffin, does anyone expect them to return from the brink of collapse? Does anyone want them to return from the brink of collapse?

If 4kids DOES end up changing their business approach, I hope that, at the very least, they still show "kiddy anime", just UNCENSORED. (Did Ojamajo Doremi REALLY need to be censored that much...? I don't think so)
They're a children's company so they don't NEED to cater to the "serious anime fan" (which I'm guessing is around ages 13 and up, if not older) because they're just not their target demographic.
If they still want anime in their line-up though, (importing cartoons is always cheaper than makin' 'em yourself, at least I think that's the case) they just need to...stop the whole...censorship thing.
Maybe look at what series are "aged appropriate" for American children
and maybe stop underestimating American Children so much
Even if they'd probably get sued by American parents.
Wait.
Crap.
Either way I can name plenty of "harmless" anime out there, so it shouldn't be hard for them to find, too. ; w ;
Thanks for the news btw :3 (darn TGWTG wouldn't let my heart-shaped emote go through OTL)

Good riddance, frankly. After that lovely comment about girls not being a big enough market to justify having shows aimed at them (because half the human race is a niche now), I lost all basic human respect for Kahn and hope he wallows in mockery with his fellow douchebags Ray Kassar & the Tramiels. Different media, same dickery.

You realize the comment he made does make sense from a demographic standpoint right? I mean breaking even off some random action-oriented no-brainer that catches the attention of a male child is more cost effective than buying a hit or miss for a completely different cultural base such as American and foreign girls, right?
The way he said the comment was a bit stupid but it does make sense as long as you think about instead of going "he's a sexist prick".

I think I get where you and him are coming from, but that's still kind of an ignorant way for a company to think. (Not that I'm saying you're ignorant though)
The only reason why they think girls aren't marketable in terms of cartoons/demographics is because half the stuff that WAS "made for girls" was complete and total crap. what with the whole: "little girls can't handle conflict or plot, so lets throw in tea parties, random giggling and have all the characters get catty with each other. Girls can relate to stuff like that, right?"
(Thank goodness that Hasbro let Ms. Faust have SOME creative breathing room with MLP: Friendship is Magic. It's turning out to be a success so far, and it even appeals to both genders, just like how typical "boy shows" that are done well are also watched by girls, too.)
Anime on the other hand does cater to girls; whether it's the magical girl genre, shoujo, josei, or fujoshi-bait; and lets not forget moe which can appeal to both sometimes, just like shonen etc can.
Girls will watch pretty much anything that's good or piques their interest, so why not send some shows our way just like the guys?
Bah I hate it when I get all TL;DR when I type;;;;

01.22.2011 - 00:35 | ZeroReviewyou brought up a very good point, it's always been my opinion that you should focus on making something good, before focusing on catering to (often the stereotypes) of a particular demographic.
