i have Verizon FIOS back home and it already came with the Funimation Channel, so i guess some networks/cable providers are taking the step forward to put anime on tv. the only gripe with it is that they keep playing the same shows OVER and OVER again, and its mostly cutesy or children's anime. they do play anime geared toward teenagers and adults occasionally but usually its on late at night, kinda like CN's "Adult Swim."

I think our cable provider is Mediacom, and even if they had an extra package with FUNimation's channel, I doubt my folks would wanna buy it for that one channel OTL (If I were on my own I totally would though;; )
Still, congrats to the AT&T peeps, I'mma go to FUNi's site to help contact my provider now :D

I remember being part of a large argument with some fellow computer geeks on whether or not HDTV was a total waste of money or not. One guy told me that "as an artist I should have been able to see the difference in quality" & that I was "seeing with my wallet & not my eyes." I told him HDTV was like organic food & that if he was fool enough to think it was superior to normal food, then he deserved to lose his money on it. I also told him that there's barely enough good stuff on TV to merrit having cable. :snooty: :pout:

Back in the early 2000s, anime was all over cable; USA, International Channel, Sci-Fi, WB, Cartoon Network, & Showtime had it on certain times of the day on certain days. There was also quite a bit of anime on Nick Jr way back in the early 90s.
There was also 2 or 3 years of Anime Network, which not everyone got, but could get Anime Network On Demand & Anime Selects, which updated weekly, if they had Comcast cable.
If you live in Seattle, there's this two-story video rental place called Scarecrow Video that has anime dating back to the early days of VHS. Some are so old & rare that you have to put a down payment when you rent them just in case you don't return them.

Er, the FUNimation channel's been available for a long time, on several providers. I have FIOs, myself, which provides the channel. I've had it for a long time. Been watching the hell out of it and everything.
And before that, my old provider that I can't be arsed to remember carried the VOD version of the FUNi channel, as well as other anime on demand stuff.
Don't know why some brand new provider getting the FUNi channel was worth mentioning, but whatever...

I'm not even sure what my cable company is planning to do - up until August, Funimation On Demand was available both Free and in Subscription form; for September, only Funimation Free was offered; and for October, The Anime Network Subscription On Demand is available, but the free anime On Demand is still listed as Funimation. :eyebrow:

FUNimation Channel is also available via Verizon Fios, and Cablevision still had the Anime Network on Demand via subscription, not that it's really worth it considering the lack of dubbed anime available on it since ADV went under.
FUNimation Channel is also a great idea to increase the anime fanbase. Unfortunately, in its current state, it really can't attract new fans. It is only available on premium service packages or with cable providers that are not large enough to attract a big audience. The schedule is also a bit confusing, and it would be better if shows were organized into blocks according to genre, since right now, it all looks very random.
Check out the link to see what I mean: Funimation Channel Schedule
As of right now, the channel only seems to please the already converted fans of anime, and really, isn't that what the internet player's for?
Now, don't get me wrong, I really want to see anime on TV, but right now, the channel needs to improve, get on big name cable providers, and tweak the schedule a bit. I really hope to see more anime on television. That would be great.
Also, if you like anime, check out Anime For Dummies. We look at Good Anime, Bad Anime, Little-Known Anime, and Anime so popular; you just want to see it Die!

My local cable provider has been supplying me with the FUNimation channel for about a year or two now. I actually can't remember when I got it. It either comes in my digital cable packaging or my HD package as I have them both.
I haven't been watching it as of late as I have found Hulu to just be much more convenient, but from the looks of it they just changed around a bunch of stuff to make it more of a legit channel, which might have been a move to attract other service providers to supply their channel. They also have a relatively new line up I am not particularly familiar with yet.

ooh, Funimation! Anything good from them recently?
Over here in Blighty, we've got one company does cable, and another company does Satellite. And they DON'T get along!
Yes, Anime needs TV airing! Come on Channel 4, Channel 5, one of you multichannel buggers on the Freeview, pull yer finger out! Let's get some Animine (Ah-ni-me-nay)back on British Telly!

But I guess that's still a pipe dream.

09.30.2010 - 06:25 | Mr. FowlVerizon FIOS TV has the Funimation channel as well. I'm pretty sure it's available with the package of middling price, possibly even the lower one, I'm not sure.
Or at least, it is in my area.
