09.09.2010 - 01:28 | kyuvenit's sad, i guess, but when the economy is rough, it's the smaller companies that suffer.
I'm not too worried personally, the state of anime as it stands is the industry's own fault: too many companies producing too much anime for too much money for too few fans and charging too much money.
And no, I don't mean American releases cost too much money. The Japanese ones do. 8k yen (about $90) for a single blu-ray containing 2-3 episodes? Yeah right. I've seen SIGNED copies of the American BOXED SETS sell for less! If I were living in Japan, I'd import the stuff from America, given it's 1/3 the price.

Not surprising at all in this economy. And I wouldn't be at all surprised to see several more go under until this economic mess is fixed. Not the big ones, mind you. The small companies that no one really pays much attention to until they go under. And for anime sponsors, I really don't see them dropping out in mass numbers any time soon. If this was in America, which most profitable entertainment at the moment is reality TV, then I would be afraid. But this is Japan. Anime is still a profitable investment over there. Not as profitable as before, but still going pretty strong.
Also, Bankruptcy doesn't always mean the end of a company entirely. A lot of times some, if not the entire staff, is picked up by another studio. This leads to the same product, only under a different, more profitable company name.

Ok a good hand full might lose out but the stronger ones will always be able to latch on. Plus with sponsors like Bandai, Video Game companies like Namco, Capcom and things like that willing to sponsor I can say that i would bet that sooner or later they will be the power house of sponsors plus if the companies branch out to others for sponsorship like getting sponsors from America the will most likely hold out for a good extended period of time.

We can all only hope that something of that nature will happen. I don't see the industry going down really quickly, but it's still a shame when pretty cool companies file for bankrupcy or the like. =(
Still, thanks for the information Marzgurl. Here's hoping the next episode brings some good news. =)

Group TAC made SFII? Like, the Movies too?
NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! WHY, GOD, WHY????!?!?!?!?!????
Seriously though, It's always a terrible time when an animation studio closes its doors. And I sympathise with the animators and directors of Group TAC.
Also, it's nice to see a new ANE, even if it does contain some bad news. Fight on, Marzy! =D

09.09.2010 - 02:19 | ChaosZereulOK, given the list you mentioned, I was willing to write this company off as just further collateral damage of the present economy. Then I did my own research. They also played roles in Grenadier, the first season and movie of the Saiyuki series, the first season of Yu-Gi-Oh, and Zoids Genesis.
Now I'm genuinely bummed. Grenadier isn't THAT great of a loss - except to those of us who loved the idea of buxom sharpshooters carrying bullets in their cleavage - but Saiyuki, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Zoids were some of my favorite series as a kid. So thus I say farewell Group TAC, you will be sorely missed, but I hope the talent that lied within your team will proceed on to bigger and better things.

Man, it’s like there’s an endless line of bad news, and every time one goes down the others get just a little weaker and less support T_T
Perhaps they should try increasing export, I don’t know much about anime, but I know that living in the UK I have to wait a long, long time after the Americans get it before we get it. That’s a lot of anime DVDs that are basically on hold for selling, perhaps a commonwealth deal so they get zones 1-2-3 all in one (as the British Commonwealth is spread over the 3 zones anyway)
Hey it’s better than nothing right? I mean, we are waiting to buy, and their all running out of money. Isn’t the answer to this capitalism 101? I don’t know if there is more to it then that, but hey it’s just an idea up front.

MarzGurl, don't be an effing moron claiming piracy is in any way responsible for this bankruptcy. In every limited environment there will ALWAYS be competition and selection. The number of studios creating anime has increased by a factor of hundred in the last several decades. The amount of money available for them did not.
-
09.09.2010 - 11:55 | mr_rubino^Anime pirate. Enjoy the death of the medium, cheapskate.

09.10.2010 - 00:50 | Mizu Takishima
I don't think she was trying to blame this on piracy so much as she was just trying to say that it's possible it could have been one of the contributing factors to the bankruptcy. (Oh gosh, sorry for the run-on sentence @_@; I couldn't think of a better way to put it though;; )
But you're absolutely right, there's always competition and selection in studio's/companies/etc, and thankfully we still have other studio's up and about :)

09.09.2010 - 05:24 | ffox91BAKI THE GRAPPLER ANIME IS DEAD?
I just recently finished watching it,its sad i hope the anime industry doesnt die like this studio,i would love to purchase Baki and Berserk anime/manga because i think they are masterpieces but sadly in Serbia there isnt any way to buy them whit cash and online purchase is also quite imposible(because its imposible to import and Serbia doesnt support online marketing meaning also credit cards arent safe to use here).

09.09.2010 - 08:26 | rcivitToo bad. Nadia was one of my favorite animes back when I was a kid and I gave a sh*t about anime.
It would be a pity if anime ended up being little but ecchi and hentai in the end.

Have you considered that they may have gone under because they weren't really making anything popular?
They seem to have been a small studio and producing feature length animated movies (like the Captain Tsubasa movies) takes up al ot of time and resources. It's pretty obvious that the things they were making weren't popular enough to keep them afloat, despite their previous hits.
While the CEO's passing and the growing problem of piracy may have contributed, I'd say they probably went under because they weren't making anything that was popular enough to support them.

Wow... shut up you asshole, if you're not a fan why did you watch this video to begin with?
Anyways, it's a shame that happened. I really hope that it doesn't happen again.
Also I have to say this: the picture... it's too humorous for this video, I know you're trying to show how bad it is by showing a homeless person but did you have to wear that hat? And hold a a styrofoam cup... that makes me think of Chester A. Bum.

I don't miss this group I didn't like any of the shows the group produced. As long is Toei Animations is doing good and all the larger animation companies are in tact that produce good shows and animate good mangas that do well and are popular I'm ok :) One Piece is the number one anime over in Japan now and the manga has out sold even Harry Potter and Naruto over there ^^ So I'm happy.
Someone had posted saying they wouldn't see One Piece in english again. You will, FUNImation is still dubbing, they just don't advertise it much anymore but they will eventually, you can go buy the DVDs and support them and show you want them to keep dubbing the great and mighty One Piece.

OK the idea of "industry in trouble due to piracy" is starting to piss me off. It is true in case of manga and PC or console games which meant to be distributed to users (viewer, players, readers) directly. But anime in trouble due to piracy? BAD EXUSE! I will put it like this: animation companies sell their products to TV companies, and not us viewers, so if you pay your cable bills, you are allowed to watch the stuff. The deals are made with TV companies, regardless of how many noobs download naruto shipuuden 176! XB And I dont buy the DVD exuse, becuse in 80's and 90's there was no such thing, and the industry did just fine. And what do WE get in exchange? a 15000 part series, with 8541 filler episodes(gotta love those fillers...) which was made made in photoshop CS 3 extended :want: and it looks like a fucking slideshow. Yes anime nowdays looks slacky. And there are 10000000000000 titles out there, but merely 50 are worth your time. Truth is, people are not dumb anymore, they won't pay (or in this case they do not, tv station do!) for SHIT. oh yeah, and my personal favourite: Dragonball kai. they took an anime from 1989  they cut down 191 episodes, changed Goku's skintone and his costum's color (wich by the way looks like shit =D )made it to """HD""""(yeah quotes, many of them)added some "scenes"( Vegita shot first!!!! )and there you have it. The bullshitmeter is OVER 9000!!!!!!!!!! :flame: :flame: :flame: END. =)
-
09.09.2010 - 23:28 | KoukiToraI'm sorry, but you don't seem to understand how the anime industry works. Currently, almost 1/10th of anime is funded by TV stations buying the rights to them. Most current companies make almost their entire profit via DVD sales. And yes, piracy really does hurt the industry...BADLY. Again, this is because DVD sales are what drive the industry. Didn't you hear Marzgurl in the video? She even mentioned how anime on TV is waning currently.
Also, sure there weren't DVDs in the 80's and 90's but the anime industry back then was a mere baby compared to how it is now. The industry doesn't really work the same way anymore.

You have some secret business documents wich can proov you're right? The DVD business works with titles, which are longer, but older and completely finished (like DBZ) or which are rather short ( like death note, hellsing). and don't get me wrong, i do not encourige piracy, i even wrote that they are noobs =O . back to the tv thing. in Japan ALL the anime is shown in tv broadcast. That's what keeping japanese tv alive. America is not the whole world you know... =_= By the way, i don't care if mister Matsusita's profits dropped 16 % and couldn't by the latest skyscraper in Shinjuku, while I earn 450 euro per month. Great system: the rich comlain to the not-so rich: "Give us our money back!!!" It's a joke.
