The show might be cliched but thats not the reason I hate Heroman. And yes, I have seen Heroman for around 4 to 5 episodes.
Why I hate Heroman is that at first I had high hopes for this show. I heard about it around 3 years ago. Perhaps a major reason why I hate Heroman is the bad voice acting. Joey's voice sounds like a whining brat more than a dude who's supposed to save the world.
The characters themselves seem to have as much depth as a piece of paper. And despite the fact that it has a very 'American' style of animation it cannot save the anime from its boring story and lousy superhero.
You can't just start Heroman with super strong powers super saiyan mode. Unlike other shows, strong powers comes through training and learning from your mistakes.

I don't see why Heroman gets so much hate. I enjoy watching it. To me, Heroman sort of seems like an old comic book (such as early Marvel or DC comics), one that isn't completely serious with its story, but it's enjoyable, nonetheless. It doesn't matter to me if there are cliches, as long as the program is still enjoyable.

07.15.2010 - 09:17 | BIRAIt's a SHAME but there is NO anime news anymore, anime is dead, the real good animes are in the past now, we don't get anything closer of what we got like 10 years ago. What we have todays is non-inspired, non-remarkable disinsteresting story animes.
It hard to face it but, that good time has gone and will never back.

Its only cause we have more access to more anime these days so we can see a lot of the crap that comes out these days as well.
Anime isnt dead just yet, even with things like mainstream music, ya gotta go through a see of shit to find the good stuff, and then there is the underground stuff as well.
And even if ya dont like a lot of anime that has come out these days, cmon man "never"? I highly doubt that, things dont stay the same forever, so the trends will probably change, maybe even for the better

And your holier than thou opinion is relevant to this video how exactly?
Thanks to the internet, people keep up with and watch out for (not to mention blog about) every single anime that comes out. Even the crappier ones.
Go back 10 or 20 years ago, and I honestly don't think people were doing that. Anime was obscure and hard to find; even in a place like the US, you mostly had to rely on whatever was airing on television, and even then, it was usually butchered relentlessly. (Robotech is revered as a classic, even though it was a splice of a bunch of different shows)
Not to mention our economies and support of the anime industry itself plays a role into what shows do get animated, but I won't even get into that.

Yeah, because Ghost In The Shell: SAC is so "non-inspired" (let the prefix "un-" enter your vocabulary). Maybe you just can't find anything decent...while I do get most of my Japanese media in the form of manga, there are still a lot of stories out there that are very entertaining and original. For example, you could try Hunter X Hunter, if you liked Yu Yu Hakusho...or just try new things...

07.17.2010 - 14:29 | BS Digital QI second this opinion. Heroman is but the latest attempt by Stan Lee to relive the glory days of creating Spider-Man, The Hulk, and the Fantastic Four, days when he was working with Steve Ditko and Jack Kirby.
What have we gotten? Nightcat, that failed series of his "reimaginings" of DC's biggest characters "The Marvel Way," and those made for TV superhero cartoon movies he did a few years back that tried to be oh so culturally and ethnically current and failed miserably. And thats just the tip of the iceberg.

07.15.2010 - 07:14 | Lord_TirionAnd while I found these news of free legal media streaming interesting and quite positive... in the end it just depress me because it remembers me that I can't use most (or maybe any) of them because I don't live in the U.S.A. :(
And just yesterday I found out that my cable service have animax latin america (in the accessible channel 94 when the one before it is 68) only to discover (quite late since the change was last year) that half of the channel schedule is filled with great anime series like... Clueless, That's 70's show and Ruby and the Rockits. And by half I mean from 2:00 am to 1:30 am there's anime and the rest is american live-action shows.
Not fair :(
-
07.30.2010 - 11:07 | BruceMcFCrunchyroll at least tries to get rights in Latin America when it can. It could obviously be better, but in the Spring season more than half of the series were streaming to Latin America.
Funimation seems to just focus on the same market where they sell DVD's.

07.15.2010 - 07:53 | hellomayoI'm glad CrunchyRoll is doing well. I don't usually go with them to watch my anime, but I'm still glad. ^_^
When you mentioned the anime Stan Lee, I was all "omg yes". I might have to check that one out. :D

Streaming anime is definitely becoming more and more common, so I was really hoping that things would turn up for sites like Crunchyroll. It looks like things might work out after all. Sure, they just broke even now, but, like you said Marzgurl, if the profit keep steadily increasing like it has been, things could be better than okay. :)
Plus the fact that if streaming anime starts making movie, we will probably have more anime for streaming available online, and that's always a great thing.
Nice to hear the news Marzgurl. Thanks for keeping us posted. :)

This is GREAT news. however I don't have much to comment on it, I'm going to be off topic and point out the oddball in all this.
Nowa days almost ANYTHING anime related you can get for free without feeling like your bankrupting your company except (pause for dramatic effect) manga scans!
As marzgirl pointed out there was a recent crackdown on manga scans because it was costing companies major profit. If we can just get a company to figure out a way to put out manga scans for free, and still make the company a profit, anime would literally become a free profit business for some companies. Maybe a site should put ads between chapters or have video for every few chapters you read of the manga.
Personally I still stick to buying when the uncut DVD comes out because I like owning a physical copy. However if those who need it for free for lack of funds there is now almost everything. We just need to solve the issue of manga scans.

Very good news that CR is doing well, and may be doing even better in the future! I've been a paying member at CR for about a year now and occasionally I watch some episodes of Naruto Shippuden. Wow! I just logged in at CR since a while and see they've got Bleach now? Excellent! And I'll give Heroman a try :)
Thanks for this update Kaylyn!

Your hair looks nice & fluffy today. Though red, I'm going for the same hair style.
I'd be willing to sit through commercials every 5 minutes if it paid for legal anime streaming. Anyone else? I'll even put up with advertising in games if it increases the budget & keeps DLC & expansions at a low cost.
Oh Stan Lee....

There is a lot of shit and lack of awesome stuff on the level of HnK, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, and so on, but saying it's only shit it's going too far. There is good stuff, but sadly it doesn't get that much popular. Animes like Kemono no Souja Erin, Trapeze, and different things like that and new classics like Big Windup!, Mushishi, and Cross Game.
There are lotsa people who don't like Code Geass, K-ON, Bakemonogatari, and popular stuff like that and say anime is dead and don't touch the new Golgo 13, Glass Mask, and Votoms.
Anyway, gadly Crunchyroll's business model is working and I hope it gets more and more accessible and user friendly than it is already. I can see it expanding to PSN, XBL, and other platforms.

All the signs point to this fad dieing sooner or later.
You can say "never say never" and "it will never die" all you want, but taking to the fact that early 00's anime is now hitting the market added on the large amount of anime that is being created now allready licensed into america.
and you have the created the death of a fad.
sooner or later more bad animes will pop up than good, and then stuff like that will happen where stan lee thinks he can make one...
it has happen to every other fad...

I don't believe anime is a fad, nor is it dieing. Think about it, before we didn't get to see a lot so anime back then was very selective. Now that Anime is an abundance you get more so obviously you wont always see the cream of the crop. When you open the gates of something great you are bound to get a few crap pieces here and there. Also people grow up too, some people just don't see Anime as entertaining as they used to in some sense. Me? I enjoy all kinds of anime and I can't get enough of it.

07.17.2010 - 21:56 | thenikkumanchanOh yeah, I love Crunchyroll and I love how you finally brought this site up to discussion. Once upon a time, they were another YouTube wannabe, but now I do CR and only visit YouTube for the occasional angry cat clip. What's especially great about CR is that the anime isn't so obscure and out of date. There exists a fanbase for virtually all the series available for both premium members and passers by. Plus, there's a great load of other crap that you just fall into.
