This is somewhat unfortunate for me, since I live in Canada, and therefore can't watch the simulcasts. Then again, most of those anime did not seem interesting since I've already watched Gurren Lagann, Cowboy Bebob, and Monster. I've got to find a legal way to watch Hellsing, though.
• DWP102589
Funimation's own website has the simulcasts available in Canada for about a week before they transfer to Hulu. Eventually they become available to everyone via Youtube.

I'm Canadian too, and honestly, if you're gonna have to go out of your way to find it, don't bother with the legal methods. it isn't our fault that the US likes fucking us over with online viewing. just find a fansub. it'll most likely be better done anyway; the english release of Hellsing was god-awful.
• Drach
Agreed. If I watch it I watch it with subs.
Happy to hear the OVAs are coming though.

I heard about Funimation licensing the Hellsing TV series and OVA's 5-7, and I couldn't be more excited. I was concerned about having only the DVD's of 1-4, and it just didn't feel right to be stuck that way for more than a year. This is a fantastic relief. :)

I'm still hoping that Funimation will be able to convince Toei to let them have Sailor Moon, I'm still waiting on a proper dub.
• Ellie Vator
avatar
me too, not to mention Sailor Moon Stars. It's the only one I don't have on DVD yet.
I also wish they could release Starzinger (yes, I'm old as a cave. But just as MarzGurl just stated, the older stuff is better in one way).

And Saint Seiya, i was bumed when Toei stopped giving now defunct ADV the rest of the anime.

:0 wow that is quite a lot of anime I hope that the companies do a good job with them thanks for the news MarzGurl keep up the good work! ;)

Hey. I got one of the first comments. To be honest, going by the list, I'm not too excited. Once again, most of those anime don't look like the kind of thing I'd like. I do think it's great that they're licensing old anime. That really gives hope for others, and it's how I was introduced to Hunter X Hunter (which is now one of my favorites) . But didn't Funimation already own the license to Revolutionary Girl Utena and Tenchi? I know I saw both of those on the Funimation channel a few years ago.

(Also, thanks for the autograph)
• skyguy  - hmmm...just not excited

Oh sure its great that licenses are being picked up, but I remember a year ago when funimation sent out cease and desist letters to fansub distribution sites to stop katekyo hitman reborn! from being distributed for they had apparently picked up the license. Well a YEAR later and guess what...SHIT! Wheres my U.S. dubbed Reborn! eps people. Will someone tell me? For that reason, funimation picking up rights to animes does not impress one bit. In fact I call BULLSHIT to funimation! I'm interested in hearing what someone else thinks. :(

Tenchi Tenchi Tenchi Tenchi Tenchi Tenchi Tenchi Tenchi Tenchi Tenchi Tenchi Tenchi Tenchi Tenchi Tenchi Tenchi TENCHI!!!

BOO-YAH!!!!!

I AM SO HAPPY THAT TENCHI IS GETTING A RE-RELEASE!

I am such a huge Tenchi fan. I even wrote a continuity chart for Astroboynerd's Tenchi Muyo! FAQ site, and I made a five part look at the Tenchi Muyo! franchise.

Needless to say I am psyched! I just hope they also get their hands on the new Tenchi series, Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari. Now that would be awesome!

Oh, and be sure to watch my new episode of Anime For Dummies. This week, I look at Detroit Metal City.

It's a... weird series. I hope you like it.

I bought dvds of both Serial experiment lain and hebaine remni YEARS ago at a consignment shop. I've been kind of a coward toward them in the fear of unseeable so any of you guys know if they're good?
• That Alien
Lain certainly has many Nightmare Fuel moments. I liked it a lot though--even if it did come out in the 90s, I still think it has a lot to say about our relationship with technology. Haibane Renmei? Loved that one. It's one of those "deep thinking" anime, so be ready to think. Lack of nightmare fuel...dunno why that one would come with a warning label. Both series are equally unique and cool. I suggest you watch them.

I was a huge Tenchi fan back in the day. It was one of the series - along with Macross Plus, Evangelion, and Gundam Wing - that got me into Anime.

Also, Utena is being reliscensed? Finally! I've been wanting to watch it, but it was so expensive to find other copies online

Man, I used to watch Tenchi on Toonami all the time.

Heck, I still have the VHS movie I bought years ago.

Oh, I loved all the Tenchi series as a kid when they aired on Toonami. Good times.
I'm planning on giving K-On! a chance, because I've heard some of the music, and I'm lovin' it. Not sure how I feel about Bandai acquiring the rights, but I guess I can give 'em another chance.
Looking forward to seeing more of High School of the Dead.
Overall, I've got much to look forward to, despite having little cash.

YAY WE HAVE LAIN!!!!!!

... Anyway, I've never watched utena so it's good that it got licensed so I can have the opportunity to watch it legally. Also do you think that they'll change things like the theme songs to these shows? (looking at lain)

I'm excited for K-on! I haven't been into anime for some time now (I fell for JPop fandom instead), but K-on!'s the first thing that's piqued my interest in quite some time. It's funny, good characters, and I'm excited to see what Bandai can do with it.

"< Tenchi is one of the best Anime shows ever. I prefer the older stuff. By the time he went to Tokyo, it started to go down hill a bit & that last series of OVAs was terrible. I think anyone who is an anime fan should see the original OVAS and Tenchi Universe. A lot of the newer comedies pale in comparison! >"
• Selenite
Utena is being relicensed for for the U.S. market? JOY!

I also hope that they keep resurrecting older anime. I will definitely be planning on looking into Utena, and I hope that this trend continues. I ADORE The Rose of Versailles, but it's never been licensed or localized, which is a shame because it's a beautiful, great anime, and a perfect example of shoujo with action.

There's only one thing that's troubling me. Some of these animes I actually enjoy dubbed such as Trigun and Shana. Now a lot of the animes that were mentioned are squeals, and again brings in the question of dubbing.

Funimation has about what....25 people that do their dubbing? Where you hear Geneon dubbing you wont hear in Funimation so that's my worry. Example would be Paul Dobson who plays Alastor in the Shana series. Are we going to hear the same voices? Or are we going to hear Funimation voices. Don't get me wrong I like funimation voices but it gets old after the 20th series XD.

Hell Johnny Bosch played Vash, is he going to be working with Funimation to play Vash again? What about the other voice actors? It doesn't sound the same. A perfect example was when they replaced Petrea Burchard for Mona Marshall in Tenchi Muyo who played Ryoko. There's a defined difference, and it's...agitating.

Don't get me wrong however. I LOVE the fact that someone picked it up, just being a little picky I guess since I already love the first seasons and etc.
• cartoonguywalky

I think Funimation does care about continuity, but sometimes the original voice-actors of a series just aren't available, so Funimation has to improvise.
• TheGameNinja
avatar
I'm fairly certain that Petrea Burchard chose not to reprise her role. I'm surprised anyone that worked on that series wanted to return for... that. I love the first 2 OVAs. That third is just... disappoint.
• Kari
I heard the voice actors in Shana were different, but I'm not sure of my source. Still, I agree. That's one series where I thought the dubbing was wonderful.

Marzgirl can I have a full list of every anime/manga you listed please there was just too many titles to try and follow that you ran off.

and its nice to see tha lain was saved and I'm kinda curious to see what they'll do with black lagoon the roberta episodes,
hell hopefully they'll legally stream all of them on hulu like they did with sgt frog and give us a choice between dub and sub.

Woo Durarara!!

... Though honestly I probably won't watch it since I already finished the Japanese version. I just hope that this will lead to the light novels being brought over.

I'm annoyed that Funimation is picking up Tenchi Muyo (I am prepared to deal with the Thumbs downs that I am going to get) I just stopped liking the show after a while. I am happy to see Funimation Rescued a few Geneon shows ^_^ Yay for Lain I love that show. And thank you for the ANE MarzGurl. *Here is hoping for R.O.D The TV gets Rescued by Funimation*.
