Hm, that convention in Arlington isn't too far. I might have to see if I can get to that one.

Either way, thanks for telling us about this Marzgurl. If I do go, I'll be sure to tell you all about the convention and the band. :)

I like J-rock, but their metal is just awesome lol. Maximum the hormone ftw ; )

If I had the money, I'd definitely be hitting SGC. It's only a 6 hour drive. XD

Aww Being poor and Canadian sucks some times. It's so hard to get everything together to to American conventions. Oh well Fan Expo is coming up in July for Tornoto Otaku. While it's not strictly an Anime convention it'll be fun. Stan Lee will be there so it'll be worth it to go.

I'm a big fan of J-Rock and I envy big cons where they get the big names in the genre. I live in West Virginia, so you can imagine I won't be seeing much. xD;;;

There is nothing better than going to an Anime Convention. The huge crowds of eager fans, the booths filled with awesome toys, manga and anime, the amazing deals and retro stuff you can find, and, of course, panels and screenings of some of the best things to come out of Japan that year.

But, it's always better if they get a J-Rock band to headline the con. Even the New York Anime Festival, which has only been around a few short years, always seems to get a well-known Japanese singer or band to preform. Just goes to show you, New York is one hell of a town! It's really a unique experience to see a J-Rock band up close and in action.

Also, many of my friends at The Geek Fighters will be going to SGC. One member of the site, Hybrid Rain, even has a panel at the convention. The panel is called The Hybrid Realm, and it's going to be on July 4th at 3PM.

Also, check out this trailer for SGC that he made. It's awesome!

Sweet, I recognize almost every group in the backdrop, including my favorite sellouts; Dir en Grey. (Sellout: Establish a style & sound, get fans, change style & sound, alienate old fans & embrace new fans, earn more money).

Oh man, years ago at Sakura Con, there was a group of people who swore up & down they could get us TMRevolution, even deticated a pannel to it, but that never happened.

I'd kill to get SKIN (but replace Yoshiki with Hakuei & let Sugizo sing half the songs). I think Yoshiki kinda looks like a male Sarah Jessica Parker. It kinda creeps me out.

& just as happy for La'Cryma Cristi, but they disbanded :(

Hmm I personally think that Uroboros drifted away from that nu-metal thing they had going on on the previous 2 albums. More in the direction of progressive death-metal.

And I gotta say.. seeing them last year only confirmed that. My god were they loud. And Kyo's death-growl vocals were really prominent.

Interesting that I learn about AnimeUSA's Jrock guest here first before anywhere else. Although as usual, even as much as I love Japanese rock, they've chosen a band I could care less about. 12012 is alright but it falls into that category of mediocre visual kei-esque bands I've just grown tired of. I'd be more excited to see a group like Go!Go!7188, Kishidan, or Buck-Tick myself.

One thing I've learned with AUSA and the music guest, is that nearly every year some sort of logistics or communication problem happens with the concerts; there was a big uproar a few years back when a band delayed their concert over two hours because of a miss-communication over their sound check.

Marzgurl, if you ever get the chance to go to AnimeUSA, definitely do it! It's a fun little con, if a bit crowded due to the weird hotel layout, but it's laid back and fun. I also co-run a bunch of fun panels with friend, including some insane 18+ events we've become notorious for. Plus, I also run a few fun Japanese rock related panels, it'd be cool to see you there in the future!

Keep up the good work!

Hitting up Anime Expo tomorrow! Woo! We get AKB48 preforming. Never heard of them, but a group of 64 performers sounds interesting. Kind of like Oingo Boingo, in a way.

Too bad that dear old Blighty only gets one Anime con per year. (*waits for flood of messages about several UK Animecons*)

Anyways, Nice to see 12012 catering to their overseas fans. And we wanna see Insano Vs Marzsano!

There is no doubt about it that no matter what its always huge thing when well known jrock band visits convention.
• kyuuketsuki
I@Foxbomber, I'd love to see AKB48... Just because it is not only 64 performers... it is 64 FEMALE performers... Man that must be hot. I'd see them just for the eye candy to be honest.

Really... The only band I'd go out of my way to see from Japan is the B'z.... Tak Matsumoto and Koshi Inaba are just an insane duo. And the fact that they are on the Hollywood Rock Walk and STILL haven't had a full fledged American tour bothers the hell out of me... I must admit I do like Buck-Tick, and a few other current acts... But really... I'd fly to almost anywhere in the continental US to catch the B'z...

This is probably why I never really enjoy the con musical acts... Even if it is a Japanese band it is always of the V-Kei scene, which has been in rapid decline.

And to anyone who has yet to listen to the B'z... Give them a chance... There is a reason why Aerosmith (look up 2002 world cup), Steve Vai (look up Asian Sky), Slash (look up Sahara) and Larry Carlton (look up the CD Take Your Pick) have played with either the band or either Tak or Koshi as an individual....
• JayTeeCool
Actually just worked AnimeNEXT a few weeks back, and we had the J-Rock band Stereopony. Honestly liked them and thought they placed on a pretty good show. If you catch them for any upcoming cons, I think they're worth seeing the concert for.

I've got it! All you need is a goodbye statement! Something like "until then..." or "See you then!". I think that would be a nice little thing to end on so the ends of @NE don't feel so abrupt, just an opinion.

So anyway yeah, j-rock... not really a big fan of it. I don't understand the hair, nor the extreme pop sensibilities, nor the "me too" musical style. Rock and Roll is supposed to be about rebellion, not following trends. However Moi dix Mois I think appeared at last year's Japan Expo... now that's the real spirit of rock because it defies the norm (double-take cross-dressing neo-goth with a death/black metal edge).

Seems like a light news week though.

I guess by "selling out" you mean finally dropping the now ridiculously cliché and unoriginal Visual Kei scene and actually making memorable, original and well-crafted music?

Well, in that case, I hope more Japanese bands "sell out" pretty soon.

I wonder if MarzGurl's ever been up to Tekkoshocon in Pittsburgh? Of late, the con's been getting more and more into the music scene. Last year at Tekko VII, the con was the site of the US debut of Otokage, and this past year one of the featured acts was Luzmelt. It looks like the con is going to continue in this vein, so it could be interesting to see who they get next year.

Meh, I didn't like AUSA when I went. Pretty shitty hotel and not really much for me to do. But I guess that's just me not being interested. Beat part of when I went was seeing Freezepop. They were AWESOME!

Hey, new blue! Looking good.

I'd love to be able to go to a decent convention, but they just don't seem to happen down under. Any convention I've been to seems to have been on the dirt side of poor. I remember one gaming convention in particular for which the highlight of the entire proceeding was the fire alarm going off when a bank of computers overheated forcing us all out to mill around in the loading bay for fifteen minutes... although I did get to meet Yahtzee that day, so it wasn't a total waste of money.

I can't see any Australian convention of any flavour having the scratch to invite a worthwhile band to play. Could be wrong of course. In fact, I hope I am.
