Maybe a billionaire venture capitalist who loves every thing Japanese, has distribution contacts with Nickelodeon(and other viacom companies), who lets production companies do their own thing because its worked out well for him before...such as...Haim Saban, its a long stretch but Haim, would be a good person to buy funimation!

As for FUNimation... even their old DBZ dub wasn't all that bad. I mean damn, the voices fit the characters (some more than even the Japanese version does) and the voice acting hardly ever sounds awkward (in the sense that it feels unrealistic or over-acted). I think the only thing that could go wrong is if the Monster 4Kids somehow got money and bought FUNimation out. But that's an EXTREME.
All in all... I guess we'll just have to wait and see, right? As long as it doesn't fuck with the Dragonbox releases (which I've been waiting for, for years), I'm cool with it... at least for now.

I'm honestly a bit scared for Funimation. If they get bad owners, they could be forced to do things in a way different than how things are done now.
Despite that, I'm going to believe that everything won't really change from this. In fact, if luck allows, maybe Funimation will take care of itself without a parent company. If they do that, they could have as much freedom as possible. Here's hoping this is what will come of this. :)

oh shit, this scared me for a minute, I thot this meant like they were shuttin down or something, thank god that isnt the case
Funimation is one of the best dubbing companies there is as of now, yet there is a small group that hates them for some reason. Why do they? Then again, most of those people are people who only watch fansubs, so they probably just hate them for dubbing anime into a language we can understand.
Still, if they sell, I hope a good parent company takes em

I apologize; It's just that the title card cracks me up.
On the issue of FUNimation from what's going with them right now, I shouldn't be too concerned as you pointed out that they could basically run themselves as a company if they wanted to. Given their track record of consistently good shows, voice talent, and media distribution in the last few years, I feel that FUNimation will be in good hands. Though it'll be real interesting to see what's in store in regards to this. Who knows, maybe Saban might acquire them...

FUNimation is one of the few companies in this business who have really show profit, not just when compared to other anime distribution companies, but also when looked at on its own.
I feel the odds of a new parent company deciding to demand massive edits from FUNimation are very slim. After 4Kids, a company which provided highly edited anime for the sole purpose of gaining television distribution and pandering to a younger demographic, preformed in the red year after year until it was finally put up for sale, it seems pretty clear that fans want their anime uncut and unedited, just like FUNimation provides.
If FUNimation is sold, one should be optimistic about the possible benefits, and if the sale results in edited and poorly done anime...
...THEN WE TAKE TO THE STREETS AND MAKE THEM RUN RED WITH THE BLOOD OF THOSE WHO WRONGED US! I'M TALKING AN ALL OUT RIOT WITH GUNS, LOOTING, AND C.E.O'S HEADS ON SPIKES!! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!
... but that's just my opinion.

Well this is some interesting news to say the least. Considering that FUNimation has dubbed some of the more popular animes (Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Yu Yu Hakusho, Cased Closed, etc.) , it would be a surprising move to want to sell them. As far as FUNimation going solo, I'm still on the fence on that. If FUNimation has a parent company backing them up, they won't have to worry too much about losing funding but if they go out on their own they take a greater risk as well. I personally think FUNimation has developed the fan base that would want the company to stay alive and the fans would do their best to help keep it a float. As long as FUNimation stays "true" to the dubbing as much as possible, I'm sure fans will continue to purchase their dubs and products for years to come.

Hopefully, anyone who buys FUNimation will not make them change their ways at all; by keeping content intact, FUNimation ensures plenty of sales and support from anime fans. It simply wouldn't make sense to change that, unless there are evil masterminds out there who plot to destroy the appeal of anime. But since that doesn't make any sense, either, I doubt we have too much to worry about.
-
06.03.2010 - 21:38 | CageAquariumAnime has become quite an economic juggernaut thanks to the die hard western fans. I am not too worried about Funimation being changed or altered. So long as they make money, any company that buys them would be foolish to change them. Corporations don't simply buy things for the sake of buying them - the good ones invest to make money and so long as Funimation makes money they are safe. God bless capitalism.
-
06.03.2010 - 22:15 | Mongler37What if Funimation were to go solo and then go public? Think about it, the average Anime fan would be able to own a part of the industry! But then again, this is the same fandom that steals from the very people that produce the shows they love. Either way, I for one would love to buy stock in Funimation.

That is easily in the running for the silliest title card ever; I love it.
Funimation has come a long way from being maligned to lauded by anime fans everywhere. If you had told me a decade ago that Funimation of all companies would be leading the way in distributing anime to the west, I'd say you're dreaming...
Wait...I'm typing in my sleep again?

06.04.2010 - 00:03 | tyrong kojyWorst case senario. Both 4 ids and funimation are bought, and it's decided 4kids had the right idea. Imagine Dragonball 4kidsified. Even the early release of dragonball wasn't that bad....

This is something that bothers me every time I watch one of these videos, but could the volume of the introduction be turned down some? Might be because I use headphones, but the song starts at a fine volume but then just gets progressively louder. Might just be me though, as I haven't seen anyone else comment on it.

Well. I hope nothing bad happens with Funimation. I hope they don't sell. This is why I feel people should buy more anime to be honest so then good companies like Funimation doesn't go under. I do however feel that they are concentrating way to much on Dragonball. They should move onto One Piece and try to finish dubbing that. They stopped two years ago. I am glad they are at least subbing it still. My biggest beef with funimation is that most animes they release on DVD is not the best quality. An example would be like 7 to 8 episodes on a DVD. That's to much, it becomes blocky.
