02.24.2010 - 22:16 | mewmewmelonAwesome! Now all I have to do is finish watching the original series! I guess it will take awhile for it to be available on DVD in the US though. Great as always MarzGurl!

So now that makes TWO anime films that I can't see yet: Trigun, and The Vanishment of Haruhi Suzumiya. The more I dive into the otaku world, the more it seems to suck all the patience out of waiting for really good releases. Granted that may have to do with the expected access given by the internet in recent years, but still, I wanna see these movies!
The trailer for Trigun looks really cool, giving an updated cinematic look to the original TV show style. Film adaptations have always been hit or miss in theatrical history, but this one looks pretty darn awesome. It may bring a surplus of cosplaying fanboys, but hey, that's just the awesomeness of Vash!

My first reaction was sheer fangirl joy. My smile went from ear to ear and I started bouncing in my seat.
Now, I'm not less excited, I'm still bouncing my feet in joy, but my concern has grown since hearing the premise. I was hoping for either a prequel or sequel to the series, something that doesn't mess with the original story but instead adds to it, bringing new information to the viewer while staying true to its backstory. However, if this happens to take place between Meryl realizing Vash is indeed Vash and the Legato incident, I wouldn't be too disappointed. If they make this its own story, I'll probably still go see it and squeal like a tween at Twilight; I just really hope for three things:
-The original voice cast to return.
-Faithful representation of the characters.
-Something new to be brought to the story.
Even if it's a sort of stand-alone story, I still want to see something new or at least captivating that I hadn't seen in the series. Considering this is one of the most renown anime of all time, I truly hope it's done justice.

"It's a great time to be a Trigun fan" and I AM!
I'm SO HYPED to watch this, but I wanted to see some NEW stuff, not a "recap" or something. I'd love to see some new adventures after the ending of the series, with the two *spoilers* adventuring TOGETHER.
Also, there are some unexplained stuff in the anime, hope they give some explanations here.
@NoahClue22 - The Vanishment of Haruhi Suzumiya, yeah, can't wait too. Especially after the painful mind-fucking pleasure that was Endless 8.

02.24.2010 - 23:04 | Gozarout of all the animes I've seen this one ended perfectly...whats up with adding a "new" movie to the series? what would it be about anyhow? Vash already defeated everyone that he needed too including his brother.

Still there are tons of questions: where are they from? How? Why? Knives says near the end "you're a plant", what? HOW? And Vash "I know", HOOOOW? WHHYYY?
Also, what the hell was that fairy inside a plant that appeared for like 5 seconds?
I don't know if thats all in the manga, but they sure weren't explained in the anime.
As for new stuff, there are tons of bad guys to arrest, ant dozens of ships and plants with enough power to challenge them. There is no NEED to recap the whole damn anime :pinch:

Not to kill your buzz, but Anime movies based on existing series are, with rare exception, a huge disappointment. It's usually just a super-condensed version of the existing series, but with a plot that feels haphazardly crammed into its small running time by sacrificing character development, glossing over or ignoring major plot points, and just generally leaving the whole thing feeling rushed, and leaving you feeling confused as you try to fill in the holes where large parts of the story were left on the cutting room floor.
I'm not criticizing trigun or anime in general, but movies that fit the description Marzgurl just gave usually fall into this trap, and the worst thing you can do if you're exciced about this movie is to raise the bar for it.
I've been an otaku for 15 years; trust me, I'm speaking from experience.

Would Arcadia of my Youth be one of those exceptions? That movie was beautiful. It did a good job telling a first time watcher everything they needed to know about Captain Harlock.

You should think of the movie like the Cowboy Bebop movie, taking place before the end of the TV series. And if it's anywhere near as awesome as that movie was, I'm excited to see it.
I hope the English cast returns, because it was quite a good dub.
I also hope that they think of doing an "Ultimate" series, one more faithful to the manga source. It's not necessary, mind you, but it would be cool to get a new Trigun series.

02.25.2010 - 00:08 | BlueGeminiWow! Its been almost... 10 YEARS since I last watched the Trigun series and now their jump starting for a new movie? I guess that's something I would look forward to

02.25.2010 - 00:49 | SuperForceOkie doke, here's my take on Trigun. To start with I have this one weird thing about anime (call it a pet peeve if you will) but if a certain anime gets really popular I just can't get myself to watch it. Not to say I'm elitist but, when something just gets really popular I just put it in my head that I shouldn't bother. I'm sure it's a good series, but I dunno. Am I the only person that thinks this way? Lemme know what you guys think.

I was wondering after watching your video last week if you were gonna ever talk about the Trigun movie in your ANE and I'm glad that you have. :D
I've been a fan of Trigun since it ran on Adult Swim, in fact it is my favorite anime and I am looking forward to seeing this movie. I'm really, really hoping it doesn't suck too. I'll just have to wait and see till it's released in the rest of the states, no way I can make it to that showing.
I'm assuming that if they are playing it in the U.S. that they may already have done a dub for it maybe? If so I hope it is the same cast from the show, can't really see anyone doing the voice of Vash other then Johnny Bosch (i really love that guy's voice.) Of course it could just be subbed for that showing, I figured it would be way too soon for them to have worked out an English dub yet, but then I dunno anything about that kinda stuff.
BTW, big fan of yours Marzgurl, great stuff can't wait till the next Editorial.

Even if the movie blows I won't care because IS FUCKING TRIGUN! maybe we can hope for some kind of Trigun Ultimate (or maximum) tv series that is closer to the manga (just like what happened with Hellsing) maybe we will get to see;spoiler; Animated Livio, Elendira and FUCKING ANIMATED PLANT ARC KNIVES!

The OST of the Trigun series is really awesome, I heard it like once per month,at least!
The title card is incredible! I would be very happy if someone draw me in a title card like this! Congrats to the artist!
About the movie, unfortunately, I need to agree with Omega Warrior (otaku for 15 years? wow, that's a lot, I mean .... oh, wait! It is the same time as me!:0 What year do we are living?). This kind of movies usually are just the same story with the same characters. Why during the series they can inovate so much, like, for example, changing the tone from humor to dark themes, just to follow the story in the manga, but in movies they are so conservative?
-
02.25.2010 - 03:03 | HattesYou make it sound like Trigun Maximum is just some crazy spinoff. It is merely a renaming of the Trigun manga, because of rights issues blablabla. Yes, it goes in another direction. Pretty much the same deal as with Fullmetal Alchemist.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, lose the opening theme to your videos. It was questionable at 5 minutes. This one was barely over 2 minutes. It's ridiculous to have an opening theme song that takes up about 1/5 of the show. Thank god you don't have an ending theme (or rather, enough credits to call for one). I keep waiting for the day I'll see you have a 1 minute video up and half of it is the opening theme.
And on topic, I'm the patient type with movies, waiting till it comes out on DVD or similar, but I really can't wait to find out how the reviews come in for this one.

02.25.2010 - 06:47 | mcmenamyaWhile this show is great to get little bits of info on the anime world from time to time, sometimes clarification is needed in the wording. Trigun Max is not a spin off, but in fact the actual manga. After several volumes (3 I think) the shonen mag that carried trigun went under, and the artist moved to a seinen mag, altering the title to "maximum" with the move. The content become some what more adult due to it now being a seinen as apposed to shonen, but is the direct continuation of the trigun manga.
sorry for the long post
