I just did a video on Dragon Ball Z, like, yesterday. I mentioned Dragon Ball Kai, and how I hoped FUNimation would licence it soon. Before I even posted the video, the news came in over ANN that they were. Bizzare!
If you want to see the video, here it is:

I rather like the title card Marz, you look great as an anime character.
I actually caught some of Dragon Ball Kai on YT, great stuff, it really did move a lot faster then the old one, and I'm all for removing the ungodly amount of filler in DBZ to follow the manga better.
Seriously, how can a supposed five minute fight between Goku and Frieza last over 15 episodes?

:woohoo: The Ocean Dub cast was the best. Brian Drummond and Scott McNeil are really amazing talents. The first 3 DBZ movies were outstanding. I remember seeing them on Toonami the first time being blow away at hearing the original music with the english dub.
Ocean Group had some of the best dub artist back in the 90's to 2000's. Ronin Warriors, Fatal Fury movies, Gundam Wing and Ranma 1/2, are also notable series they dubbed.

Having personally seen dragonball Kai i have to say I'm rather excited to hear about the DVD release. The fluid transfer from episode to episode is truly enough to make any fan of the franchise stand and clap with tears in there eyes. and for fans of the show let me break it to you this way, in 19 episodes there already on nammek. :cheer:

Not to be bitchy but I don't see this doing very well. For two reasons, one many old school DBZ fans (like me) are driven by NOSTALGIA. Number two no one else besides DBZ newcomers will check it out. I didn't rush out for BT3 or DBZRB instead I settled for Infinte World. Therefore I don't think it will truely be the "Next gen" DBZ.

Don't get too excited.
Yes, Dragon Ball Kai flows smoother and quicker than Dragon Ball Z. It cuts out a lot of needless padding. That's really all it has going for it, though. Convenience.
So ingrained was some of the filler material that, much of the time, the flow of the episodes themselves are hindered by choppiness. Only a few scenes have been redrawn, resulting a terrible clash between old and "new" (retraced) material. The beautifully orchestrated Shunsuke Kikuchi score has been replaced by one by Kenji Yamamoto, who scores many of the video games, a score which I personally find inferior (but it's at least better than the English dub scores).
Rumor has it that the same English dub cast that, again in my opinion, didn't peform that well before, is returning to reprise their roles in Kai. I've also read that they plan to take better care to accuracy this time, which is a plus, but I'm worried that the VAs just won't be able to deliver on the same level as the Japanese cast. (And before you bitch about Japanese Goku's high voice, that's the way he's intended to sound, not like a tough guy.)
If you're already into DBZ, I would stick with the Dragon Boxes. DB Kai is more for folks who haven't seen DBZ in a long while or haven't seen it at all and don't want to bother sitting through filler.
You would think Toei, having made so much money off of DBZ, would have gone through the trouble of COMPLETELY REANIMATING DBZ, but instead we get this lazily cobbled product.

OH WOW! Funi's got its hand on DBK? Great! I already have the Dragonbox, but DBK's definitely going on my NetFlix list (*crosses fingers it'll be on there*). Now I can stop watching illegal fansubs! :D I'm a reformed criminal! Thanks, Funimation! You saved One Piece from 4Kids, and now you've saved me!

02.04.2010 - 02:38 | the-man-with-soda04You know I never watched any of the Dragon Ball stuff. Maybe with this new version coming out I should start.
NAH, WON'T DO IT!

What I am waiting for is a publish of the Dragon Ball One Piece crossover that came out in 2008 as far as I know. Heck, this thing must be an awesome tribute to both series. I mean come on. Oda openly admited to be a fanboy of Drgaon Ball. To work on something like that must have been for im like a nerds wet dream coming true.

Also, Funimation has slightly altered the title to Dragon Ball Z Kai, because Kai means remastered (or something similar in Japanese). And seeing how it is a remastering of Z, it fits.
When DB Kai started they said it will be a total of 112 episodes.
That means 150+ episode material is thrown away :P

Two things to say about DBK vs. DBZ.
(1) New music and dubs, this especially shows in the Ginyu Tokusentai's ("Ginyu Special Forces") entrance. Just look it up on YouTube, you don't want me ruining their DBK entrance, it made me laugh my ass off. Catchy, too.
(2) Removing not only of filler "AAAAAHHHHHHH!" but also of filler sagas that didn't happen in the manga and of sections of fights that were extremely redundant. Example, almost everything that happened along snakeway and absolutely everything on the way to Namek. Then the fight of Goku against Jeice and Burter, where they were racing past him going on and on and ON about their speed, gone. They jump at him, talk for about 1 second, and Goku punches Jeice in the face while he's talking for that 1 second. So damn funny because of how sudden it is, but it works well.
I don't have exact numbers, but I was commenting to friends about this while watching it online. I believe by episode 20 of DBK, they had just touched down on planet Namek. In DBZ, I think Nappa was still alive in episode 20.
@ozman, ever think she may have learned her lesson and just taken a more tactful approach to the same type of fan? Even more, back when DBZ was still new, Naruto fans of this day were much the same as DBZ fans then... but as time wears on, those DBZ fans grew up a little. And several will say "Yea, it has its flaws, but I still like it. (or remember it fondly)" That is, instead of "BEST ANIMEZ EVAR!!!" (note: there are ALWAYS a contingent of fans that do the latter, it's just not the majority for DBZ, and is the majority for Naruto)

I don't agree with the very idea of dragonball kai. they're just repackaging a heavily edited dbz. besides some of the filler was actually good and funny. compared to the filler/flashback obesessed anime naruto, dbz has better and not as much too. if they release db kai in the u.s. i think they should put it as a part of another dbz dvd either as a feature or another disc. the extension of fights is actually good if you missed the other episodes because the "Last time on Dragonball Z" is very detailed. i watched a couple episodes of db kai ep 1 actually showed a scene from bardock father of goku even though he only appeared in the manga AFTER the movie and not at the place or even before ep of dragonball z/kai begins. hows that for filler. dragonball kai thats suppose to not have filler from dbz has its own filler

02.04.2010 - 08:32 | DerenWhen it was practically the only Anime to see, it was nice entertainment. Actually, with my apparently low standards, I found it even fantastic (and Once Piece after that). But it's good to have that topic over and done. Now there's hardly a series longer than 26 episodes that might catch my attention.

congratulations for Eli [love the hair, the colour's really caught my eye]
i heard about this from some friends of mine last year [maybe two?] i thought that was awesome, just one question. did they get the original voice cast? or new to re-redub it? [and if so, which cast? wasn't there Ocean Studio's and FUNimation? i'm guessing FUNimation, too bad, i like Ocean Studio's]
