I'm guessing it's not a Rider, since that's already being brought over here, with Dragon Knight airing and stirrings of news that Faiz may be coming after it. Cyborg 009 was brought over here with at least some degree of success, though I don't believe its animated run ever finished stateside.
To be honest, I'm not really sure what's going to be brought over - this is the first I'm hearing of it. I suppose we'll find out sometime in the next few months, right?

Well executed, once again Marzgurl. Not only is your style simplistically lively and centric on a topic that appeals to a lot of viewers, but it's really cool that you've been consistant about updating weekly. THAT is professionalism.
I must share your opinion about hoping Fox doesn't attain the film rights. Honestly, I don't think any major Hollywood studio can really capture the enjoyable nature of any imported work. The best solution is to make it a joint collaboration between the creator's studio and the funding of a larger studio. Tough to pull off, but not impossible.
Either way, you've made a great contribution to Inked Reality. I don't know who's idea it was to organize the animated reviewers on the site, but I definitley approve. Bravo.

I'd love if it was Kikaider. It was like Cyborg 009 meets Pinocchio meets Frankenstein: it has a humanoid A.I. try to become real and take a dark turn as he fights against not his creator, but a dark professor. It's like AstroBoy: The Teenage Years, paying respect without being a rip-off.
I do hope Fox didn't get the rights, I really do. Maybe Warner Bros. would be decent (they at least treat comic adaptations with some respect, hopefully they'll do the same with Ishinomori's work) but I guess we'll have to wait and see. Problem is, my hopes are already up. T_T

11.11.2009 - 22:12 | metalbryanKikaider would make an awesome hollywood movie... especially if they go with a route similar to the anime series.
God dammit, stop reminding us all of Masked Rider. lol

I am not a big anime fan, but I love all things Japanese related (Im going to have to have sushi for lunch tomorrow, lol). Although not a big consumer of the genere, I really enjoy listening to you speak on the subject, and I am going to keep my eye out for titles that you suggest are good.
Keep this series coming and thanks for the hard work.

If they want a dark series to work with, then Kikaider is their ultimate choice.
Special effects bonanza pick? Cyborg 009. If that IS the choice, then I;m definitely seeing that one, considering it's my favorite work of his.
If Kamen Rider gets picked up, I'm not sure how I feel. I just hope they don't take it in the direction of Violater Cop (Japan's take on Robocop, essentially).
I'm really waiting for the day they decide to adapt C.O.P.S. into a live action film. I pray they don't make Bulletproof (the black leader of C.O.P.S. with a cybernetic chest that stores his multipurpose badges) into a Wayans Brother. Or white. I don't care that it's an American cartoon. I felt I had to say it.
And no Rumiko Takahashi American adaptations. Too much would be lost in translation for it to work.

"The only thing we do know is that, like every other adaptation we've ever worried ourselves over, is that it will be a combination live-action CG movie."
Yes, yes it will be. Seriously, can we expect anything else from Hollywood in today's world? The only problem is, as you said, they will most likely attribute these features to a popular or well-made anime that is familiar to Americans. And it looks like they'll trample Ishinomori-sama to prove it, which is a shame since his works are pretty well regarded.
Admittedly, Cyborg 009 didn't keep my interest, or the fan's apparently since it's barely ever mentioned outside an anime convention. This may be a good indicator that this isn't the movie. Kikaider, while having many strong and dark moments, is even lesser known. Good 'ol Jiro, Ichiro, and Akira made an appearance on Adult Swim years ago but since then haven't made any significant premieres to my knowledge.
I would honestly be shocked if the adaptation turned out to be a tokusatsu of his, seeing how the colorful live-action teen hero fad pretty much died in the 90's with the Power Rangers, VR Troopers, Kamen Rider, and several others. Hard to believe, but I don't think even Hollywood would touch that cliche now.
Don't think it matters much who obtained the rights to this ominous property, but I do agree with your hope that FOX will not go near it. Of any under-par studio in America today, I think that's the one company that can send Ishinomori's work to join him in the grave (RIP).
Hopefully this speculation of this movie will be rewarded with a surprise and the promise of good material, but who knows? I've said it before and I'll say it again, it's a 50/50 chance, so toss up a quarter and pull a Harvey Two-Face to find the results.
"Any of those titles could be good if it were given to the right studio."
Amen to that. Pray for the rights to be delivered to someone deserving.

Well Cyborg 009 was popular elsewhere like Europe and the Middle East as for American viewer yeah it's not so popular.
As for Kikaider, the name is quite well known among viewers in Hawaii, mostly because of the live action tokusatsu hero adaptation that was done in the 70's, it's so popular there that a DVD collection is available for Hawaiian fans of the show. And I remember a modern adaptation of the original manga was released in the American market a couple of years ago.

There's no information that guarantees it won't be Cyborg 009 or Kikaider. In fact, the concept that a lesser-known feature will draw more of a curious crowd than a well-known anime definitely presents a promising premise.
Hell, even though it's a cliche and I claimed that even Hollywood wouldn't touch it, Kamen Rider could very well be the chosen one. At this point, everything's just speculation I'm sorry to admit.
As I've said, anything's possible. Could be good; could be an abomination. Admittedly though, it is fun to theorize about possibilities like these, which is why I'm really drawn to Marzgurl's editorials. Wouldn't you agree?

11.12.2009 - 05:52 | First Person ShaneI'd have to agree with most of the comments and say it will probably be Kamen Rider. And I certainly hope it will be a good one.
And the whole "keeping your hair tied till a redye happens" simply supports my theory that MarzGurl is in fact the Anime Samson, and must keep her hair dyed to sustain her Mighty Morphin powers. :P

I will always say the 4 kids dub of One piece was the worst adaptation of importated media just due to the fact that it turned so many off on the show and manga that it still hasnt recovered which is odd considering One piece is one of the most popular manga seres of all time over in japan. Well know how movies go Im scared to death about it, I think a Cyborg 009 storie would be cool though but I would rather have an animated adaptation of it, though I havent seen astro boy yet so Im not sure if that be any better.

Is that a +Anima book I see there? I thought I was the only one who read em XD
Anyway this idea probably won't go to fox, why? Well look at what they did to "Dragonball Evolution" (I liked the movie so no hardship there and lets end this DBZ chat here) Fox has brought many anime films and live-action films over and 90% suck! Though the chances that fox will have it still exist, what my Idea is why do we go to see a fox anime and always become surprised to be let down? we need to either stop watching fox anime's altogether or come up with a cunning plan, whos with me?!

Are you mentally sick, or your perception has of this world fainted forever away?
When has Hollywood ever made a decent[/ color] adaptation of an anime/manga/videogame?
Lets see which studio gets the rights? Who cares!? It will be a blatant failure no matter the studio, actors, or genre!
