Not a major Legion fan, but from the review there seems to be a major Watchmen influence here.
1)Issues being narrated by different characters is done in both stories (both 12 issues)
2) The villain turns out to be one of their former companions.
3) Characters question the morality of their decisions, and the decisions of others, plus multiple perspectives are given on various situations and actions.
Maybe I'm reading too much into it...like I said, not a major Legion fan.

05.10.2011 - 22:11 | Noj776Oh come on man! You take us through this epic story, spoiling everything along the way and then dont tell us the end! Really cruel man. Now Im going to be honest, I SERIOUSLY dislike the Legion of Superheroes. Something about them just rubs me the wrong way. But, this seems plain AWESOME!!!

Love the legion of Superheroes. Im a huge fan. I've recently gotten back into them thanks to Geoff Johns. My personal favorite stories are Superman and the Legion of Superheroes and Legion of Three Worlds. The former because it got me into the comic after watching the show and the latter for nicely tying all three continuities together and resolving them. Have you read those?
I might check this one out. Thanks
Edit: disregard the question asking if you read Legion of Three Worlds. what I meant to ask is did you like them?

I loved Johns's LEGION work. It's essentially one long saga starting with the JLA/JSA/Legion crossover "The Lightning Saga", moving onto "Superman and the Legion" going through "Legion of 3 Worlds" and finishing in his backup feature for the first issues of ADVENTURE COMICS. Then Levitz took over to, frankly, mixed results.

A minor note was how "Legion Lost" also contained a couple of continuity nods to the previous version of the the LoSH which, at the time, was still considered continuity-toxic and off-limits (like 90's Hawkman), namely ERG-1 getting the name of his predecessor, Wildfire, and the Shakkari character who was one long, insectoid shout-out to the old Legionnaire, Dawnstar.
...sorry, geek moment.

quick nit-pick, what good is super strength without invulnerability? Think of it this way, you make yourself super strong and punch a brick wall with super human force, only to break your arm because your bones aren't as hard as brick. I kinda figured super strength made you inherently invulnerable.
I can't imagine what it must be like to live for billions of years, assuming Element lad kept his sanity the things he's witnessed would make the whole of human experience seem like a sneeze.

05.11.2011 - 23:45 | Stephen5000Good review. I read this series way back when it first came out. It was great, though has much more impact if one is familiar with the reboot Legion. It seems weird that the Legion Lost collection is being released now.
Back around when this was published they didn't seem to make as many collected editions, only releasing TPs of the most popular titles (such as JLA), as opposed to these days when they collect most of their comics. Most of DC's comics about teenage characters did not see collected editions. I think Legion Lost will be only the third collection from the reboot Legion. (which isn't many considering that it ran for around ten years)
I question, though, who will actually buy this book, considering that it's a different version of the Legion than is being published now and is ten years old.

05.12.2011 - 20:42 | El Sijo...Hmm. I didn't check Legion Lost back when it came out because I suspected I wasn't going to like it...
...And now I know I wouldn't have. I'm a Legion fan since the 70's, and this stuff just seems like more of the "to make it interesting, we have to make it fatalistic" crap that DC has been preaching for years now.
Not saying the story itself is bad; it just doesn't FEEL like a Legion story. More like a SF story with characters based on them. And Evil Element Lad seems almost based on those prettyboy Anime villains eg. Sephiroth.
I will still check other DnA stuff, mind you, because Marvel's cosmic characters probably fit their style better. But not Legion Lost. Still, thanks for the review.
