03.22.2011 - 23:08 | ZoltonEven this decent Hellboy story, when presented to an audience, seems light-years better than the utter shlock Linkara has to deal with week after week.
Also, I don't really think the main Hellboy series is all that hard to get into. Volumes 1, 4 and 8 are good spots to jump on, but even the stuff in-between isn't tough to figure out.

Nice review Geek. I don't really know very much about Hellboy beyond the first movie, but this comic seemed pretty good and it seems as though the series is quite enjoyable.
For the record, I thought that the OMD joke at the beginning was pretty funny, even if Satan demanded it. Keep up the good work.

Vampire: the masquerade
was the first that came to my mind too
but I must admit the only reason I know about it is the video game
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
Which is one of my favourite games of all time.
Which is saying alot considering of how many flaws it has.

I especially liked the list of Satan's specialties, and that was a clever reference and way to explain the Spiderman Broadway Musical.
I appreciate you reviewing miniseries and standalone stories and such because while I do appreciate a good comic I am on a budget and really don't want to waste money on something subpar. I've been burned in the past so it's great to have someone like you around to do these kind of reviews.
A couple of points about you reviews in general: I think you have a good sense for writing imaginative description, I really liked how you talked about the impact of the artwork in this issue particularly. However, I would like to see you give more detail when you talk about story or character points such as explaining more why something feels tacked on or going more into character analysis. I will say even with my limited Hellboy knowledge your comments about the routine Hellboy formula rang true-you can see as much in the animated Hellboy adaptations. You do seem to do a good job summarizing an overall arc like that.
As a side note, because I didn't leave a comment back when you did it your Gold Digger video is far and away one of the coolest things I've seen on this site for its subject alone. Chalk that up to personal opinion more then anything else but I never thought I'd see Fred Perry's work here and I'm glad you proved me wrong. Now this might be personally bias so take this advice with a grain of salt but I think you might do a good job reviewing more independent works like that or even like DV8 (which was another good review from you). I think you go into more character detail with these (probably because the audience is lees likely to know them) and that's what I think could improve your reviews the most. In addition one of the strong points of your work for me is the aforementioned being on a budget and valuing you advice for which comics to buy; a lot of independent work is smaller and more easily affordable as well.
Otherwise the only issue I'm afraid you might run into with work like this is it can be a struggle to get entertaining out of something decent. If something is extremely good or extremely bad there's plenty of things to talk about but not so much when it's so okay it's average. You did well compensating for that here with a witty opening. Overall I think your reviews are more informative than entertaining but that's not at all a bad thing. Using that kind of opening hook to get people's attention is a good idea and after that people who are actually interested in buying the book will be looking for more information than humor anyway.
I apologize for rambling and I'll try to end this quickly. Good work, I appreciate your dry wit (especially in this opening) and I'm looking forward to seeing ...

Great work with the opening. That was pretty funny and unlike a lot of skits in review videos didn't wear out its welcome. Comic Book issues continues to get better with each installment.
One suggestion though, you might consider getting a slightly more interesting background. That wall, even with the art inserts, can be a little bland at times.
