At first I thought the same, but for that it should be something unexpected and not being explained before in the story. The power of Fantomex is well established in continuity I think.
Is something more like when writers abuse of the regenerative power of Deadpool and Wolverine to do "cliffhangers" or show more gore. But I don't know the term either.

03.09.2011 - 00:32 | ZoltonI thought it was a pretty good story arc too, despite previously never caring for any of those characters outside of Wolverine (yes, not even Deadpool.)
Keep it up, Geek.

I really do hope Apocholypse is dead. Just a stupid lazy villain, conceptually i mean. As the first mutant shouldnt he be the least powerful?? HIs powers and goals seem to fluctuate with every appearance. Him and Mr Sinister are the two worst villains ever.

I don't think there is a trope name for this one particular device of awesomeness. If it were an actual team member, it would be a Mary Sue or Gary Stu or whatever, but it's not. I guess it fits Chekhov's Gun (or Chekhov's Boomerang) in a way, but not if it's used this many times, and it always saves the team from catastrophic failure.
I think it's time for a new term. I suggest that it's a "PLOT DEVICE DEVICE". It could cover every "saving the plot on a regular basis machine", like K.I.T.T. or a sonic screwdriver. Or EVA.

They break into the TOWER OF LONDON just for the fun of it? No wonder humans don't trust them!
Seems like Fantomax is a mixture of plot device, plot convenience and "A wizard did it" (although I'm not to sure on the last one, though). Whenever a writer doesn't know how to solve a situation, Fantomax is there to save the day!
And Marvel wants to kill a major villain PERMANENTLY? That's a good one XD !!
(Oh, and it's really smart for Wolverine to give ever member of his secret team matching uniforms...)

I really enjoyed this video. I've been really curious about this series, I've always thought the idea of a team lead by Wolverine and has deadpool in its ranks makes is seem a worth while read. Althought, at the end of the comic were they travel back to earth in silance is a sort of a write off, now its good that it ads dramatic tention to the end of it, but it seems that it would be out of character for Wade Wilson not to say anything at the end. He would have at least made a very dark joke or reference a family guy skit where it was the after math of the man from the bible that takes his son up to the mountain to try to kill him, to show god that he only loyal to god and at the end while their walking down the mountain and the son says to the father; "Ok what the hell was That!!!!!!" "Could you explain, what the hell that was." I believe that would have been a mood breaker that Wade is know for, but it works out very well in a way, and shows how troubled phantom x is and showcases his sort of dark turmoil an internal conflict to a less then know character harly used a in continuity. I look forward to seeing more of the series and I hope that it gets the recognition it deserves.

03.09.2011 - 19:53 | ObsidianActually, blue/gray is more logical for a stealth-based, night operating team than black. One would think that black makes more sense, but black at night would stick out as a silhouette. Dark blue and gray blend in to the night far better than black does.
Good review, though.

In my opinion as a recovering troper, that is Applied Phlebotinum.
By the way: in any story where a specific character has an established and frequently used ability to solve any problem, which is still passed off as a big reveal every time, the writer probably has zero respect for your intelligence.

If Pestilence is the one Death actually impaled, how would Death be able to use his powers? He said he was going to use Wolverine's metal bones to do it, but does Pestilence have any metal in her bones?
I'm probably not the only one, but I agree with Fantomex. WE, the reader, (possibly)know Apocalypse was a child, but I don't think they knew. Also, it's like Damien from "Omen" it may LOOK like a kid, but it's really the Antichrist. Same with Apocalypse. They said it could be a trick to make sure they don't kill him, and it looks like it was working, and in the X-Men (and Marvel in general) you sometimes have to do things like that.

Thanks for helping me sort through the crap in comics. It seems these days with almost every title bogged down in the latest mega-crisis it is hard to put your hard earned money behind quality writing and I appreciate your show helping me find the diamonds in the rough. I love good super hero series but I refuse to give my money to series like Spiderman which just insults its readers love of the character to say nothing of their intelligence.
