You know, I don't know if I like X-23 as a character (outside the sorely underrated Evolution). I think better younger mutants have been written in the past 10 years (Anole, Wallflower, and the returning Doug Ramsey etc.). X-23 feels like she's constantly trying to squeeze into the mainstream universe and I actually kind of get annoyed whenever I see here on a cover. If I can give NYX one thing though, the art was pretty awesome.
I also think Deadpool is overrated...just my opinion.

Just as I was hoping someone would give X-23, my FAVORITE character from the Marvel universe (on par with Deadpool) from WAY before she was announced for Marvel vs Capcom 3 and everyone suddenly started caring about her, a proper tribute... this is what I get. "Target X" and especially "Innocence Lost" are two MAGNIFICENT stories, and I was kind of expecting that you'd look at them, as they're both drawn and written beautifully. Instead what do we get? A mediocre (at best) story about how she goes to hell... FUN! So, for anyone reading this - go find yourselves "Innocence Lost" and "Target X"! If you're disappointed by them, I allow you to come and bash me on the head with a hammer. Oh, and don't bother with NYX. It sucks.
Oh, and thanks for spoiling the twist ending of "Innocence Lost", Distressed Watcher. Keeping it classy, I see...

I kinda like the Manga-esque art for the covers, but then again, that's just because of my personal tastes. You're right though, Laura isn't exactly someone I see smiling often.
Funnily enough, she smiles in her both her artwork and win taunts in Marvel vs Capcom 3 (I am so unbelievably glad she made it into the game).

Shit, why do I still love that X-men opening theme?
Wait a tic: the kids are mad at She-Wolv cuz she killed people. Were they at all mad at ole One-Eye McDickstain for, oh I don't know, ORDERING THE FUCKING HITS?! I'm not against killing, especially in a fictional universe where people can become limitless weapons of mass destruction, but I am for consistency.
Also, anyone wanna recommend a good hero series that steers clear of the whole supernatural thing, and aliens while you're at it? I mean I could take the angels and demons and gods and devils thing in Spawn where its an integral part of what makes him what he is, not necessarily who he is, but mashing that subject matter in with what would loosely be termed naturally occurring mutants (never mind the Celestials' interference) is just too much to swallow, plus you gotta take into account the Asgardians and Olympians. Too much. Either pick one religion in a series or collection of series to be real and run with it and have that be the focus or avoid having deities manifesting themselves in the storylines altogether.

02.02.2011 - 10:32 | KariThe problem is the fact that mainstream comics all try to take place in the same universe, so everything anybody came up with winds up as canon for everyone else and it all sort of bleeds in the wash.
What kind of heroes do you like? I can think of more good antiheroes, actually, like I have a soft spot for early Kabuki, where all anybody has is advanced tech and human skills turned up to 11. Stormwatch PHD was really good right before they ended the world in Wildstorm, but I feel guilty right now telling anybody to read Wildstorm books because lately they've been a chaotic mess. Not that I've stopped reading them.

Thanks a lot, Kari, I'll definitely read up on those.
What I like? I guess I like just about anything that's written well and doesn't get too cosmic, with the exception of some Green Lantern. One of my favorite stories was the Morlock massacre in the 80s with the X-men and one of the worst was anything having to do with the Phoenix. Well, who doesn't like The Killing Joke? A lot of the older Ultimate Spider-man was fun. I still read The Watchmen every few years. Really I'm up for anything, looking for the new and the novel, some nostalgia, w/e.

02.02.2011 - 13:01 | KariHey, I'm just happy anyone actually wants to talk about comics. Don't hate me: I actually haven't read the Killing Joke.
Yeah, I also liked Ultimate Spider-man. And who doesn't like Watchmen? I DO like a lot of the more mystical end of storytelling, like Sandman and Hellblazer, but they do not blend well with clones and mutants, this much is true.
Simone's run on Gen-13 was decent, and all anybody was was a clone. The issue with Wildstorm books, though, is they all eventually cross over, and the Authority weirds anything it touches. If you like superhero deconstruction of sorts, then I can recommend Powers if you can hang with the minimalist art style and the fact that the buildup of an arc is often SO much cooler than the ending. Bit of a guilty pleasure, can you tell?
Actually, almost everything I read is a guilty pleasure. My favorite comic ever was Poison Elves. *sheepish grin*

02.02.2011 - 10:18 | KariI actually read and enjoyed NYX, but X23 was the least interesting person in it. She was just kind of there, and I got very annoyed about her because she felt like a way to put Wolverine into even more stuff (and I think he's really overrated.) Still, when she got her own series (the first one) I read the first few issues anyway and I thought it was pretty predictable and derivative. A lot of my negativity may have been the art, though, as I am a bit of a snob in that direction. Nevertheless, even if this series was only OK, seems like they might gradually be making improvements.

-
02.02.2011 - 10:29 | Neo Ultra MikeUh shouldn't you have used the X-Men Evolution theme for the opening and ending since X-23 comes from that series? Really I know everyone loves the X-Men 90's cartoon theme but honestly the Evolution theme would of fit better here and have an actual tie in to the story you're talking about. And playing the 90's cartoon theme at this point is quite frankly cliched and just there to establish some geek cred.
Anyway interesting info on X-23. I saw those episodes of X-Men Evolution that dealt with her past and didn't care too much for her then but this also seems like a fairly mature adult storyline that wasn't properly conveyed in the cartoon. Actually I think she was created in Evolution and right after that placed into the comics since I don't think it was like Harley Quinn when she became super popular in the TV Series and was then placed in the comics because of that.

I started reading the X-23 series after Marjorie Liu, Filipe Andrade, and Nuno Alves's X-23 one-shot, but I can't get into because of the art. Will Conrad's style is just... bad.
Oh, and the figure in that cage is the Gamesmaster, also from that same one-shot. It's really good, I'd suggest it to anybody looking to get into the character.

Hey Dude, this maybe your best video ever. Humor appropriate to the Vid and just a good all over review. If you keep it on like this, I think you might have found your stride.
However, Joe Q ISN'T GONE. He was promoted... And one of his flunkies is in the EIC role. Enjoy plenty of more terrible editorial mandates to come.

Seriously, you're a female Wolverine and you're a whore?! Wow, just wow. Comic writers still think so little of women that a badass' badass like Wolverine, if female, couldn't find anything better to do with her time or any cooler profession than hooking?! What a fucking copout. That's why I'm always writing in my own backgrounds and plot points in my head to replace the shitty ones.
