Yeah they're fandub.
I gotta admit looking back, my friends and cousins and I liked the old Digimon themes, but looking at it now...
They're not bad or anything, it's just, when you compare them to the original Japanese OP themes, you just sorta feel "Why didn't we get something this cool?". My cousins, when I showed them the OP's, had the same reaction.
One other awesome thing about Japanese Digimon are the ED themes.

That was really well done. I can't really judge how well the second theme measures up to the original because I've never heard it, but the first and third sounded pretty much how I would expect an official version would sound. =)
It's always nice to see more of these and it's even better that it coincides with Digimon Month. I can't wait to see your reviews JesuOtaku. =D

JesuOtaku, I wanted to get this out to you before the comments became too thick.
I've been trying to contact you about a review series that I actually got started a few months ago and am about to finish.
I'd love to get your perspective on it, if you're willing.

I've also uploaded my blogs onto TGWTG and in the Video Review section on the forum.

08.09.2010 - 00:43 | hentailoverWell... it's good, but lyrics have almost nothing to do with japanese ones. But it's impossible to translate lyrics realy accurately and still make it sound right.

Actually, the lyrics are pretty close to the original. Not line for line, but I put certain phrases from say, at the start of a verse, to at the end of one. I tried to keep the essence of each verse of the song, at the very least they have the same message as the originals and share a good deal of imagery.

Nice work. I understand that translation is an art... Some things just can't be brought straight across word for word or it actually won't make sense. Capturing the essence of what's being said is more important than the specific words.
From what little Japanese I do know, and as many anime as I've seen subtitled, I can tell you how many times they've stretched a single word into full sentences... And the reason is the context they're taken in. It also gives variety to state the same thing in different ways.
Concepts and ideas are ultimately what language is at heart, and I believe you captured Digimon's heart. :)

So many great song adaptations in succession. I can't wait for the reviews to start! =D

08.09.2010 - 00:59 | YosatoWoww that was awesome! Oh and I like how in that opening 10th anniversary shot Marcus is being harrassed by Tai's Agumon instead of his own :D

First of all i want everyone to know that i agree that a theme song dosent have to even mention the name of the show its for but it only works if it still has relevance. EX: Revolution by Orange for Generator Rex. It makes sence that that show would have that song as it's theme. but when i hear these japanese theme songs for the Digimon series... they just feel out of place. This a show about DIGITAL MONSTERS. The first season American theme writers recognized this and gave it a kick-ass techno song. In fact i cant imagine an animated cartoon were these japanese themes would be appropriate. Thses songs would be better on they're own cause they relate little to not all with the show they've associated them selves with. BUT THEY ARE AWESOME I'LL GIVE EM THAT!

NICE O_O awesome singing and awesome lyrics, really congratulation to you both. I live in argentina so i got kickass dubs of every opening of Digimon, but i felt real pity when i heard u guys had that digital monsters crap on every opening =/, but these dubs are amazing! they are as good as the ones i had, too bad they are not official because they deserve to be. Can't wait for Hirari wich is one of my favs =P.

season 1 song was really meh in comparison the american techno one. When I saw that opening as a kid I was pumped and singing along. but with this butterfly opening i feel meh :sigh: it's not the song though it's just that it seems unrelated to the show other then the fact that guy is singing about 2 people fighting against the odds.

Its precisely about how two people are fighting against the odds, the partner digimons are the support the children need to overcome and grow to be better people. You have to see this in light of the first 13 episodes, as that was the initial plan for digimon adventure. I'd say this song has a lot of relevance in reflecting what digimon had that other shows did not, developed relationships, between two persons who interact and grow together. You can see how each relationship between the chosen child and his/her partner digimon is quite different and dynamic in their own right. Yet each relationship helps the chosen child to grow.

Hey there, Teh Jrn here. I just wanted to thank JO again for letting me be a part of this. I think it turned out great. I had a blast working on it. My favorite one to work on was probably the 4th one. I had a bit of a time getting the ending right on the 4th and the 1st one, but they turned out pretty well. I'm looking forward to the review! Digimon was one of my favorite shows when I was younger. It was a pretty big part of my life, so it was an honor to get to work on the openings for it. I look forward to working with you again!

Thank YOU, man, I was so impressed with your mixes and your vocals. :want: Happy to have gotten to work witcha! =D
Since Jrn said his favorite to sing, hmmmm...3, 4, and 5 were the most fun to write, but overall, I like 3 the most just because the message is so funny. The rest are all "WE ARE TEH CHAMPIONS WITH TEAMWORK AND PASSION" and 3 is like "I kinda suck, but I dream big, and one day I'll show everyone I'm worth something." It's cute. XB
...Butter-Fly was a toooootal bitch to write. I still think it should have been better, but I tried. ^^;

HAW! Somone who sees my point!

Teh Jrn, my good man, if you weren't born to sing, then there's something wrong with the world. From to the pitch and vibrato, to the editing into the original instrumentals, and complimented with JO's adapted lyrics, this kinda blew all my expectations out of the water.
It really is a shame that the Digimon dubbers didn't come up with renditions this stellar, but even more shameful that the repetative American intros have become the prefered style by many fans. There's a lot of heart put into more lyric based songs, which I suppose ISN'T what most kids are used to in their cartoons. For us older cartoon watchers though, projects like this give a chance to appease those more mature musical tastes.
Take a bow you two, this was a very faithful and respectable tribute to the show indeed. You'll make a Digimon fan out of me yet I'm sure.

08.09.2010 - 01:41 | CoolclaytonyTo recap as a SONG the japanese have got it down! AS a THEME SONG FOR THIS SHOW however, i feel America wins this one.
