Somehow I don't think this is what the creator of the original film had in mind. Needs more explosions and creepiness.
A pretty good parody Harry. I'm not really crazy about your animation style right now (a bit too floppy for my tastes), but I can definitely give you an A for effort. It's certainly distinctive, and really impressive as a private production.
I applaud your contributions to the site. Glad to see Inked Reality gaining more ground.

Did you just say that the Japanese will do it RIGHT with a live-action adaptation? Obviously you haven't seen a single anime adaptation made by them in the last ten years. Death Note, Blood: The Last Vampire, horrible films.
Manga just doesn't work in live-action, and considering the last Akira was an incredibly confusing and over-rated hunk of cyberpunk bile, I doubt this film should be made by ANYONE.

No, this isn't Spoony. This guy's name is Harry Partridge, and believe it or not, he's British. You can see a lot of his other toons on Newgrounds. The fact that this video brings up a topic that Spoony touched on in a review and that the opening quote happens to be a line from a video Spoony posted are both complete coincidence.

You forgot about the live action attempts at Devilman and Casshan.
Japan doesn't do any better a job than America when trying to turn manga/anime into live action movies (its just like trying to turn a game into a movie, some things only work in their own media). Both countries barely even try to keep to the original plot lines and that wouldn't be so bad if their new plots weren't so terrible.
I've never seen Akira, but I've heard that it is both one of greatest achievments of manknd!!1 (those spelling and grammar errors are on purpose) and a piece of shit. So, I'm just gonna assume it's an average anime movie from the 90s. I'm not too well versed, but, from what I know, anime was being inspired by hollywood movies around that time (or was that the 80s?). So that means hollywood shouldn't have too much trouble adapting this.

I loved that little detail.

11.30.2009 - 23:45 | Random_Ninja_5Really, I'm not sure how to feel. I love the original anime movie. I never really imagined it being in live-action. All I can go on is what I've heard: based on the manga series instead of a direct adaptation of the movie, will be a two parter(books 1-3 then 4-6) But Having it take place in neomanhattan is a pretty deuche move. But that's what hollywood is good for, right. I'll still go see it. but I won't be expecting much.
Why is it that when hollywood adapts an already great Japanese story, they have to have it take place in America? (I'm including all of America not just the US) Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, etc. Not that the remakes were bad, its just principles, is all.
I mean, as long as there is the "Kaneda!" "TETSUO!!!!" scene, I'll be happy. It amazing that you were able to get the whole plot(and some jokes) into such a short video. Bravo both on that and on the vid.

There are good Anime Adaptations. Hell Nodame Cantabile was even better als Live Action.
An yep Deth Note LA wasen't as good as the Anime.
But horrible? Saikano was horrible. But deth note was more okyish. Without the Anime the DA LA would be a set of good movis (the Anime is way better).
The funny thing is the same goes for the Original Akira Movie. It was a horrible adaption of the original manga.
Lets say:
US Akira Live Action will suck (100% chance).
Jap Akira Live Action will maybe don't suck (85% chance).
The other thing is. The Akira Movie (Anime) was a horrible Adaption of the original Manga.
-Sorry for my bad eng-

I must disagree. First, the Death Note films were decent. Second, the 20th Century Boys films are excellent.

I couldn't resist the Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged reference.
But seriously, I hoping it will be a good adaption; not very likely but here's hoping.

I feel I'm going to be reading "saw this when your first posted it" rather a lot on my upcoming vids. The back catalogue will go up here but I'm also making a lot of new content for early in the new year.
Thanks for your support. :)

12.01.2009 - 01:28 | JMShearerI dunno, man. The original Akira movie was my first intro to anime, and I think that's kinda why I never really got into it, so I've kinda got mixed feelings about this remake of it. On the one hand, I'm not sure if it could really hurt that much. Then again, if I understand what little information I've got on the matter, we're talking a live-action remake being done by a US studio, so it's very likely that I've just said that I'm not sure that having a blunt piece of white-hot metal jammed up my behind won't hurt too much. We'll just have to wait and see.

12.01.2009 - 02:01 | tiggerpetewoah, I was thinking, this is pretty funny, who would have thought to come up with an American Akira, they must have a pretty wild imagination, but holy shit, my jaw hit the floor when I heard it was real, this is gonna suck more than the next Micheal Bay film. probably not Uwe Bol territory, but it could get that bad potentially.

12.01.2009 - 03:21 | JohniBoiIf they didn't have a talking bike in the original, then why would they in the American version? The Japanese seem to be more likly to do that than Americans are. Just saying.
