01.27.2012 - 03:31 | JunkWatcherWell, sorry to say, but he is absolutely right. Your comment, however, is not. The Theory never said that "this show is the worst thing in the history of anything". The main thing he complains about is the animation. And that HAS been terrible for every single episode so far.
I mean, look at 0:27, is that supposed to look like a gunshot that was supposed to kill the bad guy, whatever his name is. Look how slow it flies, there's nothing threatening about it. Or how about that sword clash at 2:56, is that supposed to be a fight?
Look at how many close-ups there are, look at the number of re-used shots and animation loops. Where are the action scenes, where are the craps I'm supposed to give about the characters?
The Theory doesn't have "incredible high standards", he simply expects more from a studio that started animating since at least 2006.
Seriously, look at some movies from animators on newgrounds:
- http:// marsoupskin.newgrounds.co m/flash/
- http:// granfaloon.newgrounds.com /flash/
- http:// egoraptor.newgrounds.com/ flash/
Look at HISHE: http://www.youtube.com/ hishedotcom
Look at Harry Partridge: http://www.youtube.com/ HarryPartridge
Most of these, maybe even all, are 1 man projects. Granted, some of these are drawn animation instead of animated still frames, but still, look at how much they improved over time.
The Theory is not expecting professional Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends or My Little Pony quality. But he IS expecting at least SOME improvement after this many episodes.
THAT is his main problem with this series: there's barely any improvement, even with at least 5 years of experience.
Why do I still watch it? Well, it's a freakin' robot ninja in space. Even though I still don't give a crap about any of the characters, that idea alone is incredibly cool. But I will not deny that the animation is terrible.
-
01.27.2012 - 03:42 | The Theoryyeah I also look at this series for the robot space ninja as well, call it my... guilty pleasure.
but I still cannot stand the horrid animation.
and thank you for pointing out the specific flaws of this episode, I got tired to pointing every single one of them after a while... -__-
p.s.: I also like the FauX Series, this is how you do a series based of a web comic.
-
01.27.2012 - 04:37 | JunkWatcherWell, to be honest, I hadn't heard about the FauX series until I read your comments on older videos to see what exactly bothered you about this series. I followed the link you posted on the episode "Enter the Dragon" and watched the episode to make sure my point would be valid.
So, I would like to thank you for introducing me to that series, cause I now know what I'm gonna do today. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some catching up to do ;)

I'm not saying the animation is great...I know it's not that great. I'm watching this show for the same reason you're watching it....because of the robot ninja and the various other science fiction elements. I also like the art style of it. I just don't think it's worth so much bitching about, which Theory has done nothing but since the beginning of the series.
Once was enough...we got what his beef was with the show. The animation is not up to his standards therefor it sucks. Done. That's it. Why basically keep saying that over and over again? If the show was costing people money or something I could understand, but it's free and short. He has absolutely no reason to keep coming back and complaining. It's completely moronic to continue doing so!

01.27.2012 - 20:06 | AdaloreBenzaie... That is no defense.
That's like saying that a Truck and a Car are completely different because only one needs an engine!
Even at this rate it is no excuse.
Also a motion comic... Can imply more motion without "Animation"
EXAMPLE : http://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=ThJyS3vjCzM
These are cut scenes from Infamous, which while I don't even DARE hold small scale projects to this standard knowing there are probably ten professionals on the cutscenes here. But this is a "Motion Comic" is it not?
The problem is that if they were going for a motion comic, then it needs less forced animation, and more "Animated Stills" that are filled with motion. I don't expect FANCY editing, but expect basic editing and framing.
If they wanted to go the "Motion Comic" route, might as well go the Webcomic route and then turn it into a "Motion Comic" later after everything is set up to be improved.

this ending where the ninja falls to his "death" where the badly animated girl( I mean, really, "hop walking", truly lazy or just plain incompetent) gets to walks up to his mangled carcass is the perfect analogy of the series as a whole...
It was a badly handled from the start, with what seemed like a good, fresh idea. but as the months went by, the incompetence of the overall animation was so mishandled that in the end there was just the shell of what it could have been if some effort was put into it, but no, Instead of making sure that the animation would be fluent, consistent and competent, it was simply covered with a coat of avereage art style, semi-cliched script, and amazing but repetitive musical score.
It just Tried so much to cover it's incompetent animation and it was obvious that it's such a sub-par series compared to the many others series that came out the same year, This series is the greatest animation failure of 2011.

I seriously love how you do nothing but bitch and moan about a series that you've actually taken the time to watch the entire way through. Yeah, the series was so bad that you clicked the video the moment it popped up. Right.
Also, there's no need to sign your name. We can tell it's you by...your username. The one that shows up on every post you make, before the post itself.

01.27.2012 - 03:47 | The TheoryI will always stand by what I said several times:
-Motion comics is not an animation technique and is one of the Worst ways to present a series.
just look at this series, there's just a a way too small fanbase (of maybe around 6 people) to be a success, it need to have ACTUAL animation, expected from today's standards, and from a studio that makes animation since at least 2006.
If it were to be commercially released like this it would end up being a failure.

And here you are. Ya know, I was really hoping my comment would deter you, but I knew you'd comment anyway.
Seriously man, how many different ways can you say you don't like this series and that you think it's bad? Wouldn't it just be easier to copy and paste, this sucks, over and over again? It would save you the time of writing out these long ass lectures...or maybe writing those lectures is the highlight of your day. If it is, then I say more power to you. And if not, and you sincerely believe you're going to change anyone's mind about this show, you're absolutely wasting your time.
PLEASE, go do something else.
-
01.27.2012 - 03:51 | The Theorywhat would definitively deter me to talk so ill of this series "animation" would be to have some Competent animation.
;p

01.27.2012 - 04:32 | Zydrate
I really don't care what you think is wrong with the series, I just want you to quit coming here and bitching every time there's a new episode. You've made yourself clear a million times over. Just STOP. Me and the other few people who like this series will continue to like it, and that's not going to change anytime soon.
I ask you, if only for your sake, to stop wasting your time complaining about this. There are a million other things out there that are in so much need of your criticism. A little independent internet show with a nothing budget is not worth it. Let it go man.

I'm not a big fan of motion comics either, but that was rarely my biggest complaint with this show. I just never gave a crap about any of the characters...until this episode.
The reason I stuck with this series was because I had faith in Dark Maze Studios. I think they might want to try a different direction with their next project, this one's ended and it looks like few people are willing to have a sequel.

If you want to call this hogswaggle(yay immense retro) appropriate for the site, fine, but don't put it at the top of the list. I think MikeJ and Film Brain BOTH Deserve to be higher than this "artistically stylized to a point anyone not knowing it was stylized would not be able to pick up and go with it."
Edit -
OH MY GOD THAT ENDING WAS SO CONTRIVED.
He loses, jumps out, and throws a ninja star at the baddie, when nothing else would get even a scratch on him and it kills him? Is that some kind of fucking joke?

01.27.2012 - 08:54 | turkishproverbVery nice to see a new episode up. Even more suprised I noticed it here and not at DarkMaze's site.
Amazed to see people getting so pissy about the show, but then it's the internet, and people love to complain.
I've enjoyed the series a fair bit. Good storytelling, fun setting. Atmospheric visuals. Nice stylistic choices. The animation isn't exceptionally complex even when the illustrations are, but then that manages to work for the piece in a way. A sort of deliberate movement that hearkens back a bit to the careful staging in old samurai films.
Not the best thing since sliced bread, but not bad.
It's very nice to see something besides strait comedy on the site, even as much as I enjoy that.
-
01.27.2012 - 11:39 | AdaloreWhile I have no claim to true animating ability, I MUST agree with the comments towards the quality of animation. Besides taking lots of shortcuts which in its self is understandable for animation, it's just how painful how a little more effort would improve the product.
I see the animation and pretty much laugh.
Also the story flow to episode to episode could use some MAJOR improvements.
Mostly needs more of the foreshadowing thing, and a Myth arc across the entire series, like if the space ninja's are actually partial memory imprints of the big bad on "Blank" bodies, maybe have the space ninja character have flash backs after the credits as a stinger just a short something that reflects a fractured psyche that would actually make the "Reveal" in this episode a... reveal.
Also I felt from the first time I saw them, the laser hands that apparently shoot Shuriken(Spellcheck, y u no help?)... You have given the main character a weapon that can't be disarmed short of literally disarming him. limiting some writing flexibility.
Also how in the world did the supporting cast FIND him? Two episodes ago they couldn't and last he was ORBITAL DROPPING(Awesome in concept, poorly executed in the episode.) We need to see the in between, like where he got the replacement arm, AND the yellow laser...cannon?
And then suddenly the supporting cast's ship flies near the big bad's lair, which at this point is probably at high alert, flying below the city skyline, without being shot AT. Also I find it hard to beleive that the big bad didn't send a cleanup crew to be sure.
A compromise for the final scene could have been that he landed crippled but alive...ish, and he is QUICKLY picked up by the supporting crew and then collapses inside the ship...fadeout...to the cleanup crew seeing the ship fly away(Thus the bigbad knows he is alive...Or not?)
It would have been also more badass if he landed on his feet but still as damaged...CRUNCH.
So it's not just the animation that needs improvement, but also the writing. However the animation needs it far worse.
(That Exposition dump was... a bit sudden.)

01.28.2012 - 03:55 | DisappearingBearsI swear to God this website is full of the biggest whiners on the Internet. Guys. It's a low-budget indie show. Chill. The hell. Out.
"B-buh EGORAPTOR!?!?" What about Egoraptor? This isn't his gig. And if you're going to expect every Flash animation to live up to HIS standard then you're going to be massively disappointed, hate to say.
So, I probably said this before, but take a pill, or failing that, stop following this series, find something else to do, and leave the rest of us alone.

There! I think I covered it pretty well.
Also, great episode Ed. Looking forward to the next one, as usual.
