Yeah, I don't get it's success either. An apt metaphor for this film's success would be that these films are crap and that the people that enjoy them are flies.
Hollywood can't see any reason to stop making crap if the flies don't stop giving them money for it...

Way too long. You did over kill on some jokes. And I had to turn up the volume and try to barely understand wtf that guy with orange hair is saying.
"pointless scene that he can drive" the movie is fast and the furious if you think the driving parts is pointless then there is something wrong with you.
I am not a big fan of the movie but you are just bickering on what the movie is supposed to be. The movie is simple mindless hot chicks and fast cars. If you were expecting a great life lesson or some novel by a movie named "Fast and the furious"
If you wanted to bicker about one of them, bicker about Tokyo drift. And watching that for a full 25 minutes is way too damn long. I mean I thought this was a review, not 1/2 of the movie.
Movies like this you just have to turn off your brain for a little and just enjoy the flashy cars and cool action scenes.

Quote:And watching that for a full 25 minutes is way too damn long
These are full-on, NC-style reviews with some degree of analysis. It was never going to be a short video. Besides, I only showed about 10% of the movie in the video, and the fact you claim that's half the movie shows how vapid and empty it is.Quote:"pointless scene that he can drive" the movie is fast and the furious if you think the driving parts is pointless then there is something wrong with you.
I like action movies, but there has to be a point to an action scene. I understand that was to establish his credentials as a racer, but that's already established in the first race. Not to mention the fact that the street racing element is just dressing for a bland, generic plot.Quote:I am not a big fan of the movie but you are just bickering on what thE movie is supposed to be. I don't expect a life lesson, I want to entertained. This movie was flat out boring, a point I make in this review. There's not enough action (for a movie supposedly about street racing, there's only one real street racing scene in the movie, which says a lot about its real interests lay). The movie has a lot of flash, but the characters are dull and interesting, with cars for personalities. That is, of course, with the exception of Toretto, who thanks to that scene about his dad and Diesel's performance, shines above the material. The rest is rubbish and the movie gets more and more contrived as it goes along. And don't worry, I hope to exterminate the entire series down the line.

Wow respect you for commenting back in a well mattered way. But yes I guess your right that there is way too many scenes of nothing going on sometimes. Have to say if you want to tear the asshole out of the other movies I look forward to that. I can't say this was a terrabad movie however. Good luck on your videos dude.

Not to mention the fact that the street racing element is just dressing for a bland, generic plot. The point to the scene at Qualcom was to show that Brian, while somewhat skilled, is still a naive racer and that his car was not ready to race. Furthermore, it justified Brian having a poor-man's nitrous set-up on his car since he, according to the movie, installed the nitrous over night.
Quote:(for a movie supposedly about street racing, there's only one real street racing scene in the movie, which says a lot about its real interests lay). There are about 5 or 6 real races. The race with the pointless CGI in the beginning, the Supra vs. Ferrari 360 race, about 3-4 more races at race wars, and then the "pointless" race at the end between the Supra and Charger. And if you want to get very technical, the first "real street race" wasn't real either since no street race ever races 4 cars at a time. They usually stick to two.
Quote:The movie has a lot of flash, but the characters are dull and interesting, with cars for personalitiesThat was kinda the point of the movie. This is a culture where one is defined by their car. Remember Brian's introductory sequence? And look at the Charger. It perfectly captures Torreto's old school yet unstable personality. Even Jesse, the weakest character, drives a Jetta which is known as a girly car.
By the way, Paul Walker did step out of his poor man's Keanue Reeves shell with Running Scared which was anything but contrived or flash without substance despite having even flashier editing than The Fast and the Furious.

Which was also established by the fact he nearly destoryed his car in the first race.Quote:That was kinda the point of the movie. This is a culture where one is defined by their car. Thanks for proving my point. Whilst that is some nice touches and it does show the background work by the production team, it is lost on screen to anyone who doesn't know their cars (like me). For those people, that is characterisation lost.Quote:By the way, Paul Walker did step out of his poor man's Keanue Reeves shell with Running Scared which was anything but contrived or flash without substance despite having even flashier editing than The Fast and the Furious
I have to admit, I haven't seen it, even though I have wanted to. I have heard some good things about it.

If you're a car guy, the first FNF is a comedy goldmine. It's one of the most stupidly quotable movies ever.
"Almost had me? You never had me. You never had your car. Granny shiftin' not double clutchin' like you should. You're lucky that hundred shot of NOS didn't blow the welds on the intake. Mow me and the mad scientist gotta rip apart the block and replace the piston rings you fried.
Ask any racer, any real racer. It don't matter if you win by an inch or a mile. Winning's winning."

hmmm...
this is a movie to watch with your brain turned off. and i did not mind seeing it bashed (though considering the whole cash - cow franchise, "Tokyo Drift" is the one who deserves bashing the most).
As for the review itself - it was not too bad, though I felt you really overdid it in some parts which made the whole think not enjoyable at all in certain occasions and honestly made me cringe. And what is the deal with professor celuloid or whoever that alter ego of yours is supposed to be? That, at least in the humble opinion of this watcher, felt forced, contrived and not one bit amusing. I see what you are trying to do there but seriously, lose the act, because it does not at all feel natural or like it belongs in there.
Other than that, the review was quite all right ;)

I enjoy other movies that have you think, but I also like pointless action movies that just have you stare at them mindlessly.
I think this series did a good job with the car stunts, seriously if you went into this movie expecting something more than car stunts and hot chicks and were disappointed that is your fault, not the movie's.
-

I think its ok, better than I thought it would be. But thats because I never actually sat down and watch a single Fast and Furious movie.
But I enjoyed it for the fact that me and my dad finally spent some time together, which rarely happens. But then again, I enjoyed watching Superman Return with dad (every other time though and I felt sick :X )
PS. I know some people liked it, but then again I'm not one of those people

Matthew! Awesome man, Awesome, Proud of you! Bad movie beatdown is shaping up to be something of a "recent movie critic" series to compliment dougs Nostalgia critic series. Keep up the great work!
I'd recommend mixing it up more, maybe close up shots of your face, crazy facial reactions to particular crappy parts in the movies, and one or two parody type sketches (not a fan of the pink haired side character). Of course this is what id do, if you want to take your own approach thats just fine, this is a great video either way!
As for the movie:
F&F was entertaining, its a popcorn throw away movie - I own a VR4 TT, and enjoy working on it from time to time, so the movie was ridiculous to the extreme but i had a soft spot for it. The new movie in theaters was even better...Whats up next?

Equilibrium, which I know will cause plenty of divides on the comment system...

Wow, this movie isn't as fun as I remember it, still Vin Diesel is a better actor than many give him credit for, I've come to that conclusion after watching his old short independent movie Multi-Facial where he puts on a well acted performance.
Can't wait for the Equilibrium review, this movie is a perfect example about how differently a movie is recieved by critics and moviegoers, Equilibrium was panned by critics however moviegoers have recently responded positivly to it (it has a 7.8 rating at IMDB ) even my old college friend back in Egypt, who hates crappy movies (he hates the Fast And Furious movies) actually thought Equilibrium was a good movie.

How the hell does Vin Disel do a burnout at the same time as he does a wheelie???
thats a physical impossibility since you burnout by draging behind with the rear wheels causing the rubber to heat from friction while the car is being pulled by the tourqe from the front wheels. So how does this hapen while hes only driveing on the rear wheels?

I loved her in the second season of "Lost" but what the hell is she doing in such stupid, pointless movies ? She's capable of acting, as she's proved on "Lost" and "Girlfight", so why waste her talent on movies that have no plot, no character, no brains and no entertainment value ? Personally, I'd love to see her play Renee Montoya as The Question if they ever make a movie out of her.

There's nothing wrong with enjoying the movies I review, even if I give them a good seeing to. These are not the be all and end of all opinion, just mine presented in an entertaining manner.

The stunts are good, but the movie's dull. And don't mistake me for an action snob as I am certainly not: nearly a quarter of my DVD collection are action movies and Die Hard is my favourite movie. Hell, I enjoy movies where Liam Neeson kicks the shit out of foriegners for about 5 reels. I just found this movie boring and given the potential fun to be had, it was sorely lacking, I felt.

Alright, this review is much better than your last, no offense. I like that you lost the jacket, which kinda seemed like a rip-off of Doug's outfit for "Nostalgia Critic."
I admit, I like this movie. Everyone has that one crappy movie that they know is bad but still love, and this is it for me. However, that didn't mean I didn't enjoy the review.
I love the Panasonic jokes and the whole "my-face-was-in-your-mom-last-night" line, not to mention Cullen's Pizza Hut role. Very funny.
However, I think you still need to work on your fake laughter a bit, and the Professor is a little... awkward, plus his voice can barely be heard.
I don't think your review was too long necessarily; Doug's "Godzilla" review was about twenty-five minutes long; I just think you get caught up in certain scenes, trying to make them last a little longer than needed, like the initial race. I think you could've ended with the "Told ya" line and just say Diesel pressed the nitro and won.
All in all, you have really got a hang on reviewing now. Very good work, can't wait to see your next review.
