This movie saddens me for several reasons:
1. It is severely lacking in originality and basic logic. Even a room of primates would write a scathing written complaint with their own feces! :X
2. Its dull and insipid dialogues between the two lead actors leave a lot to be desired. (or in this case a full mental exam is needed for the brain damaged writers and their obnoxious jokes.
3. It has Harrison Ford in it!
Harrison Ford is one of Cinema's greatest treasures and also one of my heroes. After seeing him in such films like Indiana Jones (Excluding part 4) Blade Runner, Witness, Clear and Present Danger and The Fugitive, you would THINK he would have wisely turned this movie down... what happened to you Mr. Ford? Oh how the mighty have fallen...
All in all this movie was pretty shitty, I am happy to admit that but still, it had a few charming bits. However... Harrison Ford in sunglasses munching on a sprinkled donut whilst in mid-coitus? Count me out!
Mr Ford, we will do lunch and discuss your future later, as for you Mathew: Keep up the great work.
Oh and finally, WHY DIDN'T THEY HAVE ERIC IDLE BREAK OUT IN SONG? XD

Generally, an IMDb rating (which, for the most part, are very reliable indicators) of around 5 (especially below 5.5) is normally very bad. Much of the stuff I review has an RT score of around 30%. (I think the lowest is Pluto Nash with 6%) I normally get inspiration from either these are multiple critical reviews. A lot of these are films I saw before the show (with the exception of Transmorphers and Darkness Falls (2003), which I picked based on reputation). Yes, I saw Hollywood Homicide in cinemas. Now you know my pain.
Incidentally, this film has a 5.2 IMDb and 30% on RT.

Like I said when you started the review, I never saw the movie. Harrison Ford's donut sex just was wrong. It's almost as bad as naked zombie Sean Connery. I think this might be your version. GREAT stuff, though.
Your reviews are getting better and better! Writing is tight and funny and so is the delivery.
Good stuff, Buck!

08.14.2009 - 03:33 | Trillian_TolkienAccountancy probably would have been funnier in this film, and it would have made more sense to have the Eric Idle cameo.
Everyone!

Hey Matthew, great review, but it's way to long again. Almost half hour of it. I mean... you're keeping talking about Hollywood Homicide's long jokes and numerous subplots, and during that, I was thinking with myself: you're doing the same thing XD
You're doing a nice job, but I think you can cut some scenes of your act =)

Well, the reason the episode is longer than usual only ever so slightly (by a minute) is because the movie is longer than my usual fare: most of my movies are around 90 mins and this is 2-agonising-hours long.
I was amazed I actually managed to keep the length down as much as I did. I couldn't really put across what the film was like without including most of the subplots. I didn't even mention one becaue it goes completely nowhere, where Gavilan courts a madame to be a witness - and then it just gets dropped. So I didn't even script that.
The clips were a pain in the ass. Watch carefully and you'll see that clips are heavily edited. They go on for ages and the direction and editing just kill the gags in the film stone dead. If you thought they were unbearable here, try watching the movie with all the empty pauses and superfluous dialogue - nearly all of it cut. At least several have 5 or more different edits in them. Without them, this episode might have been 10 minutes longer. I actually hold the movie as a guide on how not to do comedy. Bad jokes, dire execution.

That doughnut sex scene was, as André Benjamin would say, nasty. :X

Hey, waaaait a second. When Harrison Ford was giving his boring real estate anecdote about Mount Olympus, I could've sworn that the second time he said the name, he pronounced it "Mount Olympics." Seriously, go to 4:25 or so and hear for yourself. Terrible.
Fantastic review! I always look forward to your next videos!

08.14.2009 - 07:49 | MintI've seen that movie. But i didn't remember it until you started talking about the subplots.
How sad is that? I mean, the most memberal stuff from this movie isn't that memberal to begin with and it wasn't even the "main plot." Hell, I didn't even remember the action scene at the end. All I remembered was the painful, slow, horrible crap that call itself comedy.
Great review, can't wait to see the next one! :cheer:

It's sad I know many of the people involved in this film quite well, actually. The problem lies with the director, though. Hopefully Ron won't catch wind of me saying it, but he was simply not the right fit for a movie like this. At all. Ford was pretty miscast as well and, between the two, there's this false sense of energy that comes across as just trying too damn hard. There's no natural feel to it and a more capable director could have at least lifted up a muddled script that was written by someone with no comedic experience at all (Souza is a celebrated LA Detective, notably for the Wonderland murders, and his original story was just a cop drama). But the studio insisted because comedy action was really big at the time thus Shelton retooled it but it simply made it worse.
I never thought I'd say it, but the best thing about the film is Josh Harnett...wow. ^_^
