Personally, I think it is an extremely bland environment (same enemy raiders and desert scenes and metal sheet siding walls until you hit around level 25 or so) crossed with a FPS Diablo. In other words, Fallout 3 meets Hellgate: London.
Despite its blandness, it still remains very fun for me, and I always get a warm fuzzy feeling each time I get a new weapon or mod I need.

this is one of the best games i've ever player. I'm playing mainly online with my friends.

This was a pretty underwhelming game I thought. It's not overly fun unless you do co-op, since the game is pretty obviously designed around that aspect more than an enjoyable singleplayer experience like Fallout 3 or STALKER. Guess that is the tradeoff to have good multiplayer.
Not that it's a bad game, but the amount of weapons is almost overwhelming and unnecessary when doing a mission to a new area can net you a good dozen or two new weapons and the missions really weren't that great. Also I was told it started off way to slow and that it doesn't pick up till about 20/30ish.
I ended up trading it in to pay off MW2, but I might see about picking up the PC version down the road, though I'm also bummed to hear that it was designed to be a console game and isn't very PC friendly.
Solid review though that hit on all the main points of the game well.

The title explains it all. I haven't been this addicted to a gem since Diablo 2 and I play a lot of games.
I have my complaints, but unless I make a game myself, I will always find nitpicks.

10.29.2009 - 07:59 | syntaxxor - Monotone much?
The monotone, script reading voice of this review, makes me think you didn't play all that much...which..leads to other questions...but meh.
Firstly, I'd like to address what I hear about in game, and in this review, the blurred textures when coming out of portals, and when aiming. It's called camera focus, each time you go through a portal your character see's blinding light, and usually goes from a really dark area to really bright, or vice versa. You should notice early on when you go into "aim" your character will focus on a certain depth of field and blur out the rest, kinda like when you come through a portal.....sooo it's just a camera affect.
Also "a few chuckle worthy lines" is a lil harsh, the NPCs seem to want to joke around more than they want to actually give you any information, which I love.
You also missed a huge mechanic that's important to the game, which is the accuracy stat. Just because you know how to run and gun in an FPS doesn't mean this game will be a breeze, if your character is using a gun with low accuracy, or even the wrong type of gun for your class, you will miss, or do significantly less damage. And finally, you said the game becomes easy with the Second Wind option. Were you playing only through level 10? Or were you playing alone? With 4 people in the game, when you get shot down, usually the best method of getting back up is your "Friends" healing you, because the enemies, especially ones with "BADASS" in their name, are NOT easy to kill from a downed position. Yes, if you die you'll respawn further back, but you also miss out on loot that just dropped, or completing your quest, so on and so on.
Anyway, with more zest, or even game play knowledge this review could've been better, even if the game isn't.

Good review.
I'd mention that on the PC it's near impossible to play with friends. I wish they had spent more time polishing the multi-player aspect, since it feels like they wanted it to be a cooperative game. They just didn't develop it well for PC.
As for difficulty I get owned by enemies that are only a 2-3 levels above me. It's like I do next no damage to them. Good thing I'm a Soldier with the Support Gunner class mod. I never buy ammo anymore, it's great.

damn that game does look original. It look as original as District 9. Didn't catch onto my comparison, does FALLOUT 3 RING A BELL. fallout did the same thing, mixing FPS and RPG into a quest based game with one primary objective. sure it looks different, kind of, but as for the main parts of it, it's fallout 3 with better graphics and more weapons.

A cel shaded fallout 3 with a less serious world, even more fucking grinding, and its to easy, I will stick to Fo3.

NO! No! ...gotta hold back those urges. It's as if I don't have a shitton of games on my plate already. >

10.29.2009 - 12:56 | Urge - I have it now!
I have it now, as I said I put on pants and I went and bought this sucker.
And it's a lot of fun
I'm around level 10, I just breached that bandit gate outside the first town.If there's anyone here playing it on xbox live I'd love to try playing with some other people, none of my friends play the game at the moment so I'm a bit lonely

If you think this game is just a cell shaded Fallout 3 and is too easy then you obviously haven't even played the game.
-
10.29.2009 - 14:03 | Detis - Whee comparing!
Kind of can't compare games like...FO3 to this. It's not the same game nor even the close to the same mechanics the only thing you got going on that has similarity between the two is that they're post apoc and RPG. I would more compare this game to a Mass Effect deal and even then it's still has it's own thing going on. FO3 is about how high your skills are and if you're a good shot (even then the combat in FO3 isn't that great for FPS standards and I love the game). Borderlands offers a more FPS with Diabloish loot system (fine go say WoW if you want.) It's a dungeon crawl shoot them up game so there's no real comparing to FO3 and even with ME really when it comes to gameplay.
wait wait wait I'm mixing words here.
L4D crazy killing 4 player co-op + Diablo II item/skill progession dungeon crawl = Borderlands. Really I find it it's own game >.>

10.29.2009 - 16:02 | mollemannen - info
keep in mind people that the problems here is exclusive to console! on pc theres no problem with loading textures and the difficulty is hard. as an example you can't do most quest on the same or one level lower becuse they are to hard.

You pretty much had me at coop and the veriety of guns sounds awesome

10.29.2009 - 16:55 | Nayue
Good review. Except you failed to mention how it's basically marketed to World of Warcraft-knowledgeable players. Item colors, 3-section skill tree, useless jumping (lol), etc. At least it's an FPSRPG. That's interesting.
It's fun though.

FO3 is a RPG game that lets you think you can use FPS skills to beat, but then you realize your stats won't let you do it.
Borderlands seems to annoy me just like that game did. I am so happy to see skill building FPS games like what they did for 2142, but games like this, FO3, and Mass Effect end up surrendering to the infinite profit system of leveling, rather than making a decent FPS engine.
When I can't even track a normal NPC enemy with a sniper rifle at 50 yards, there's a problem with your FPS engine. I've had bullets clip through a bruisers chest and hit the wall behind them the system it's so bad. Give me a game that puts the shooting in front of the leveling and that will be my gaming heaven.
