These behind the scenes are great.

    You rock Spoony.

  • soldierstar

Dude, how many hours of footage are we not seeing?

  • Van Ultimo  - Just an observation

Is it just me or does this particular Holiday Inn look like the boss battles from Super Mario Bros 2?

  • Sada  - You're Awesome!

I love the different takes and all the extra stuff with it.

    Thanks for recording it!

  • mattjindrak

I don't wanna sound like a weirdo but Krissy and Z are adorable. And thanks for all the behind the scenes shit Spoony. The brawl was the feel good movie of the decade and I love seeing how it all went down.

  • The Brit

An unfortunate amount of shots of Dougs backside. If your going to gaze at perverted things spoony dont film it and put it on the internet, unless its spooning with spoony.

Thanks for this, great to see some behind the scenes action

  • Tinted

Hey, speak for yourself. Us girls enjoyed it. ;)

As for the whole video, I loved it. I'm a sucker for any behind-the-scenes action.

... why do I always get the impression that The Angry Video Game Nerd always looks like he doesn't want to be doing this video?

He's always standing in the background with an emotionless look on his face, kind of going with the flow rather than contributing. He doesn't even really talk to anybody but Kyle Justin.

Can someone (Spoony, Linkara, AngryJoe, etc) who actually met him during the shooting fill me in on your impression of him, and (hopefully) prove me wrong?

dude, its a movie shoot. You have to keep the talking down to almost zero. Even when filming with friends it still has to be professional.

  • MadScientistJC

Spoony actually mentions in his commentary track on his site that James is a bit put off because he's surrounded by so many people he's never met before and doesn't know, but they know him. He's talking with Kyle because other than Doug he's never really met anyone else there.

  • AngryJoeShow

James Rolfe is a Thinker. Some people are just naturally quiet and contemplative. He's actually thinking at all times. The Next scene, the Next Line.

Some people are just naturally silent and quiet. He's one of those. I understand how people feel hes "acting weird" because hes not screaming obscenities even when the camera isnt on him - but thats a character just like angry joe is a character (im really not that obnoxious in person, sorta).

I had several conversations with james. So did others, it wasnt being filmed because honestly, WHO CARES?

Also it may have to do with the fact that hes in a room with 27+ people that all know each other and already have relationships, he doesnt know anyone quiet yet.

Sorry to burst your bubble but James and AVGN are two different people.
    ;)

Hope this puts peoples concerns at ease. Listen to the Podcast with James from Transmission Awesome or his appearance on Game Heroes. You can tell the guy had a great time.

  • laughingman  - Thanks all

    Thanks for the feedback all.

The whole "in a room with people he doesn't know" thing is totally understandable.

Like AngryJoe said, the AVGN and James are two different people and it threw me off. I never thought of James as 'holier-than-thou' or anything negative, but I did picture him as more outgoing than what I saw.

If he had fun with everyone that's all that counts, and that's all I wanted to know. ;)

Thanks again for the feedback guys. It was an awesome video made even more awesome knowing everyone had fun making it.

  • Lowcifur

They cut out the scene where Linkara and Little Miss Gamer have a Matrix-style shootout. Then there's a subplot where it turns out the Spoony is the clone, and Dr. Insano is the real Noah.

  • Noll_UK

where did you get that information?

I think it's been said somewhere before that AVGN is actually a very private person working with a bunch of people he doesn't know very well if at all. I imagine it'd be a little difficult to open up to that sort of atmosphere, even friendly as it was. And like johnjohn9 said, talking had to be kept to a minimum. A quiet person in that kind of surrounding tends to keep to themselves.

I have to agree - noticed it immediately, “Well James certainly looks enthusiastic.” But after an amateur overanalyzation, it didn’t seem so strange.

He was probably just uncomfortable with the whole deal, something you can’t blame him for (strenuous day, amongst lots of unfamiliar faces, etc).
He was neutral, bland even, but you can’t request someone to work at 110% energy all the time. I think he actually desired to just go with the flow since he probably didn’t have anything to give input on; he was just a guest actor, not a director. But as you can see, when he began acting there was a total change. To summarize; cooled professionalism.

  • Genitalboy

    Haha.
    I like Angry Joe's angry face. :)

    Even when NOT being filmed.
    :P

  • Genitalboy

    Oh.
    Submitted too early.

The AVGN aka James Rolfe has been making films for years (Screwattack.com) and I think he knows how to behave on a "Set".
I agree with dreadwis, jon and John ...
Seems more like professional work than beig bored.

Additionall when you get into a group of people who know each other, you might feel a little lost. :)

  • xonikagex

    As always an awesome video.
    Spoony FTW!!!!!!

  • OliverTwisted

WOW, Spoony, thanks!!! You make me feel like I actually was there. :D

  • The Other Guy  - The Nerd...

As a cameraman for these crossover fights, I have worked with James Rolfe four times now. Once in Philly, once in Jersey, and twice in Chicago. Each time he has struck me as very easy going and one of the most genuinely nice guys on the planet. In fact, far from being anything like his Nerd persona, he's actually very low key in person. Reserved but very friendly. You just have to get to know him a little longer -- and let's be honest, time was on NOBODY'S side during that event.

But yeah. Both he and and his wife and Mike Matei went above and beyond the call of duty in making us feel welcome back in Philly, and I hope someday we can all work together again after this latest event.

That said -- YES, he is a private guy. But he's also VERY generous with his time. I've never gotten a holier than though attitude from him and doubt I ever EVER will. It's simply that he's quiet. He won't say much unless he really has something to say. Some of that maybe shyness. I don't know. But I also genuinely think that he's just THAT LAID BACK. I mean, hanging out with him is almost a lesson in just chilling. We uploaded that video in the member's section where James, Doug, Mike, and I discussed what we would do for the brawl in Jersey. It was just the four of us crashing on his couch. That's what the whole trip was like with him! Kicking back (when not filming) and just sort of randomly talking about anything. Almost like we were a bunch of stoners. That's just the way he rolls. Very down to earth and not big on making a spectacle of himself off camera. He just plays it cool.

He told Doug and I that he enjoyed filming very much. Apparently he and some other guys went to Chicago the day after the shoot, and he thought it was really cool that everybody did that. It was my impression that he really, really enjoyed himself.

The reason he looks tired on set is probably because he was. He's a very busy person always working on multiple projects. He also, as Spoony pointed out, was surrounded by people he's never met or seen their work -- but they knew his. That would make ME feel awkward! Add to that the fact that he didn't write this thing AT ALL. He had to improvise, but other things we've done together he had much more input in. In this case, he really was just there to act -- and a lot of times, that means just sitting around for hours of downtime waiting for your shot to begin

Also, he's a professional. He directed me in the first brawl back in Philly in much the same demeanor. Very nice. But bare bones: "Here's what we need. Go here. Shoot this. Let's have fun, but remember, play time comes later." I respect that. Believe me, it makes for a much smoother shoot.

That said, trust me, we had a lot of laughs. James cracked up a number of times as did we all. That blooper during the end credits gives you some idea.

So yeah, I'm pretty certain he had a good time. I mean, hey, I look much the same -- exhausted and cranky lugging that camera around -- more so than him. But I still had a good time. Remember, it's still WORK. And a 14 hour shoot!

    But we enjoyed ourselves.

  • The Other Guy  - I'd also add...

The fact that he looks like he's only talking to Kyle is for two reasons.

First, those two were in a LOT of early scenes. Some of what you see is them standing in the background waiting for their next shot, and the shot after that, and the shot after that, etc. One bit we had them standing in the same place for thirty minutes because we had to keep blocking people in front of them (Doug, Benzai, Little Miss Gamer, Spoony, etc.). We needed them in the same place multiple times, so they had to stay put on their marks. They really couldn't go anywhere between a NUMBER of takes. So they HAD to talk to each other on set while we were setting up new takes.

The other reason is... hey, they're friends!

I tried to be as sociable as I could, but let's be honest, everybody has their comfort zone. I stuck mostly to Bhargav, Jim (the behinds the scenes camera guy), Mike Ellis, Doug, and Lindsey because I've worked with them before or because they're friends/family of mine. I also chatted with Aussie cause I knew him from Skype meetings. Spoony I talked to because we had our obsessive compulsive love of David Lynch's DUNE in common. Benzai I met with Spoony the night before at Buffalo Wild Wings and chatted it up with him for awhile. I also got to know Handsome Tom cause were got stuck in traffic together. As the day I went on, I tended to gravitate towards those guys. It's not that I hated everyone else, but when time's short, you go with who you're comfortable with. I said "hi" to other people occasionally. But there were thirty people there and I only really hung out with six in-depth. And believe me, others did the same. We all had our own little cliques -- which was cool. I don't really see a problem with that. We're a collection of different families coming together for a big reunion.

  • AngryJoeShow

Sorry I didnt talk to you much Rob, according to fans I probably hate you and you hate me now. :P

You just looked extremely busy filming. We'll have to chat sometime man!

  • Gravemind

This is so awesome, best behind the scenes ever!

  • ThatGuyWatchingThatGuy

Haha, I already saw this part 2 and part 3 on Sponnys site yesterday.

Still, it's pretty friggin badass! :D

I'm going to admit this only once.

After careful observation I've decided, AVGN actually isn't a bad looking fellow at all. Easy on the eyes.. when he's not making those crazy faces. XD

    Isn't bad-looking?

    He's DEAD HOT. :woohoo:

  • RockmanX3

If you think James is shy, you'll actually be surprised how many of your favorite celebrities are actually shy. If you've ever seen Jessica Alba in an interview, she can barely look into the camera or even speak coherently because she's shy when she's not in character.

Kevin Smith admitted during one of his "Evening with Kevin Smith" segments that he has no problem speaking in front of thousands of people because he has to put on a peforming persona, but put him a room with a small amount of people and he wouldn't even say a word.

Robin Williams is one of the funniest people on earth, but as a kid, he was painfully shy. He got into acting to get over his shyness, but it still shows a bit when he's not in character.

I can go on, but people seem to really confuse an actor's personality with their character. I remember going to Magfest with some friends and we noticed James was incredibly quiet and laid back in comparison to his Nerd persona. I was way too nervous to go up to talk to him, but I heard he's a really nice guy. Maybe I'll muster up the courage one of these days to ask for an autograph. :cheer:

  • gasto5  - Matei.

    HEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRT!

Make him appear more often, he is funny as hell.

  • Thumper17

    lmao,

5:49 - Fan service shot deployed, over.

And was their ANY arguing? Don't get me wrong, I hope everyone got along great. I just can't believe that NOBODY got into an argument.

Yeah when i watched James in these film making videos he reminded me of myself and i definately know what its like to be quiet or just shy because i am a painfully shy person but like James i'm also an awesome guy :) Not to mention I personally think he's just as funny as all the others in the video who aren't shy because he's that good! Kudos to Spoony for filming all these great videos because they are very interesting and fun to watch!

Great video Spoony....cant wait for more stuff :woohoo:

Is Spoony dead in this video?
