I know exactly how you feel... I learned this horrible fact playing Guilty Gear X2 online.

The key is to play the game side by side against other people who suck.... while drunk.

Yup, just because you get a great game doesn't mean you're a great gamer.

Wow, am I really the first one to comment!

Anyway, I have never been good at any fighting game. Not Street Fighter, Mortal Combat, King of Fighters, nune of them. I always thought they seemed like fun games but I don't find them fun becouse I can't play them.

I stopped playing Star Craft as soon as I figured out I couldn't select as many units as I wonted at once. I mean I could understand in Warcraft where it was a fantasy setting but it's the future and they've all got radios in there headsets.

Nice video.

I have to say that this review is an example of why you are a good reviewer.

Unlike, say, Yahtzee, you're willing to praise a game you like. Okay, he does that too, but spends most of the entire time ripping them.

You say that it's a damn good game, but not your kind of game.

You're acknowledging the subjectivity of any medium (hark at the EngLit student!), which a lot of people, especially, say, youtube commentators, don't do.

It's very 90's. Nausea.

I know what you're saying. I'm the same way when it comes to any brand of strategy game, be it real-time or turn-based.
I think some of them seem to be absolutely awesome, but sucking makes the games extremely unfun.

Nice review, yeah games are never that fun when you get destroyed over and over.
Thanks for your input!

i suck at all beat em ups, even super smash bros, so i know what you feel like, only that i feel worse :]

...that "I heard that Curtis!"-Shirt...in Black....with white letters...how do I get one?

I'm not into beat em ups either, but when I got my hands on Tekken 3 for example I couldn't get away from it. I don't know, maybe I'll rent it and then see if I want to buy it. I just hope I won't suck at it like I suck at Soul Calibur or Mortal Kombat.

Just letting you know, unless you're talking about the REALLY early Mortal Kombat, those are all 3d. Street Fighter is 2d. Completely different vibes.

I have to agree that Street Fighter 4 is one those games that are most appealing if you are good in it. I love SF-games and whole franchise but I understand if you don't get most out of SF4 if you suck in it. Not everyone can be good at every genres. Personally I hate driving games and sport games mostly just becouse I suck in them.
• Shwa  - I'd have to disagree on one point.
SFIV's not really the kind of game you can only love if you're good at the other games. You must be confusing it with SFIII: 3rd Strike or something.

SFIV is so simple that I actually got people into it last week, and I was their sorta' coach. Because a Street Fighter game is a game you have to play with someone else next to you, for you to learn better techniques gradually. Online is either filled with heavy competition or spamfests, so you shouldn't jump in there just yet.

Also, the Trials in Challenge Mode aren't really a good thing to try out either unless you can have the patience of fluidly using certain techniques. Yesterday, I grew a love for Chun-li that was even bigger than the one I had for the Alpha series one, thanks to the combo potential shown in the Trials.

Anywho, I know it's already too late, but just saying that for any Street Fighter game, you should play with friends right next to you and/or just take your time with it. I know, I know, 16-18 hours, but I'm a guy who played fighting games since he was 2, so I just wanted to share a lil' bit of personal experience (maybe considered as advice).

And trust me when I say that you'll have more trouble with a King Of Fighters game than a Street Fighter game. KOF has too much depth for some people, so when KOF XII comes out and people will request you to review it, just pass.
• Punky  - hahaha!
Soooo.... Gamestop sucks anywhere in the world, cuz here they are a bunch of a-holes! yeah Buy the game on Costco or Walmart :P

And you know what? I considered myself good on SF but I played this one and I suck elephant balls! Maybe I need more time with it?... if not, then my crippled hands are only made to play Smash Bros Brawl as a fighting game lol
• Tigro  - Gamestop

Hey can I ask you guys what's the deal with you and Gamestop?

We have them in Germany, too, and I can't complain. The prices are lower than in other stores. Okay the service sucks, that's right, but if I want to know something I just look it up on the internet.

I'm just curious.

Here in America, the gamestop personnel are non-helpful dicks. They swear that they're at the top of the gaming food chain, Just laugh and criticize at WHATEVER you're buying. There's always like one person behind the counter, and the rest of the employees are his buddies and all they do is talk shit loudly all day on how they "PWN NOOBS" constantly on LIVE, and how every other console is obsolete, because they don't have LIVE and shit. They're just a bunch of really obnoxious assholes

Also, I'm pretty sure (99.9% sure) that you have to be a Halo fanboy to work at gamestop
• HornlessRonso  - GameStop

Lol, late reply I know,

I work at Gamestop, though I don't live in America lol. But the issue with Gamestop isn't really the employees since they're all human beings and are easily different from each other. It's not like they were born from the store lol.

The problem with Gamestop IS: that the company is run by a bunch of pricks who constantly like to remind people that they're the shit. They also like to treat people like it's a classy business atmosphere like Starbucks or the like, when really the average gamer is chilled and more casual.

I work at Gamestop and have for years. Saying that, I can honestly agree with the Spoony One on this, don't buy your games at Gamestop. From inside information, I can tell you they rip you off on purpose...no lie.
• Bassie  - I agree

I remember you kicking my ass on Street Fighter II HD remix, too bad you don't get into this SF4, I missed SF3 for the same reason, this new combat system and all, but I took the time to see how this one plays...

but I still think that SF II HD is a better game overall, because it's the PERFECT version of SFII turbo with a perfect balance and all

whereas SF4 has more a new feel to it so oldtimer find themselves lost in a way with new priority to learn and all...
• Shwa  - yo benzaie
Well, I had no problem adapting from STHD to SFIV. As much as I like wearing the nostalgia goggles, I also appreciate the new.

Though, honestly, SFIV feels a lot with SF3 with elements from The Rumble Fish.
But considering Dimps made TRF and SFIV, I wwasn't surprised. I even had an old theory of SFIV being TRF3 because of the too familiar gameplay elements.
• TKWolfman
I must have the weirdest learning curve ever. I've sucked at every Street Fighter game before this, but when I started playing SF4, I could do almost everything! For the first time, I'm doing Super Combos, Ultra Combos, all that stuff when I could barely throw a fireball before. I am, in fact, a freak. XP
• DrKimble  - yeah..

I hear ya .. I'm 29 .. playing stealth games, RPG's and the occasional action shooter SINGLE PLAYER campaign. My street fighter days are over ... good times .. good times *caugh, caugh*

• Shwa
One of my friends got training from me in 15 minutes last week, and she's already started to main Sakura and Ken (without the spam, I might add). It was her first time on a 2D fighter. The first time she pulled off an Ultra, I cried manly tears.

I got 3 people into 2D fighters on the same day, so it's not hard to get into SF if you've got tips from someone who's experienced or follow guides.
• evilmetsfan
I buy all my new games from Best Buy, because I like my new games in the wrapper still. Spoony. I pretty much feel the same way about SFIV, I have turbo HD and its really fun. I demoed IV and it's basically the same thing. I too suck horribly at this but, for some reason I pretty good at Marvel Vs. Capcom 2.. Makes no sense.
• AnthoFlex

If you really truly want to get good at a game, you'll get good. You'll try your hardest no matter how much you think you "suck". Keep training no matter how gloom things may seem

Keep on taking it, suck it up, take it like a man, and train your ass off. Thats what I do with Super Smash Bros Brawl.
• devGod
I'm sure I would suck harder than you, at SF4... If I had the game.

I'm with you Spoony, I suck at most fighting games. I remember playing some version of Street Fighter when I was younger and being decent with the stretchy armed guy, but I could never replicate that experience ever again. I also suck at RTS and FPS most of the time. Yeah, I'm a 21 year old who can't play Halo. Travesty!

But totally good call on the Game Stop thing. GameCrazy for the win!

Yes, thank you for mentioning the whole sucky 360 controller, fighting games are best suited for the PS3 controller.

I was thinking about picking this one up. Personally, I haven't played Street Fighter in many many years. THe last time I played, Akuma was evidentally a constant character. I had just met him. And boy did he pwn me......hard. Took me forever to kick his ass, but it was such fun doing it.

anyway, I'll have to pick this one up then. Thanks for the...actually slightly helpful review!

Your review is understandable. I was never great at Street Fighter. I love to watch fighting games, but I can't play them and hope to win.

I do, however, freaking LOVE your shirt. Some people are complaining about its color, but they must not have read the words on it, or have seen your Phantasmagoria reviews. Congratulations on an absolutely fantastic shirt. Commercializing your very own catchphrase is AWESOME!

I totally agree-- I tried playing SF4 and got really pissed when I got destroyed . . . on "Very Easy."

Yeah, I think I'll be sticking with SF2, thanks very much.

And why the hate on Gamestop? Fuck, come over to the one I manage-- we're good people, and most of the people in my district are good people. I'm sad to think your local GS has soured you so much on the chain, but it REALLY comes down to the individual managers/district managers.

When it comes down to it, we're all just gamers trying to make a living. ^_^

I totally feel you on Street Fighter. I love the game, but I SUCK at it.. SFII, MVCII... I didn't even touch Street Fighter 3 because I just didn't understand all the technical shit. My friend crushes me all the time, no matter who he uses, and he sucks against the guys who play this game nonstop.

It's fun, but I need to play with friends who equally suck in order to have any fun with it like I did back in the old days (1999 is 'old days?' :( ) That's why I'll rent the game, and not actually buy it for that reason. I'll have fun sucking for a while, let my friends play it, play with the friends who suck just as bad, and return it.
