Simply masterful review Spoony. I've missed FMV Hell, and I too am glad to see you're feeling better. That game sounds boring, yeah, but I'd probably still buy it to have as a curio amongst my other games. What's it going for on ebay?
By the way, I hope you get to that review of the Clue game that came with a VHS. My sister and I actually found the video pretty entertaining, and would often watch it without playing the game.
Can't wait for the Pumpkinhead review! Happy Halloween!

Without a doubt of my favourite Spoony videos EVER! I loved the banter between the Gatekeepr and Spoony, and the Gatecleaner was awesome. I hope he pops up again from time to time.
I will agree with you about the limited replay value. I think I was around 10 when it came out, but even back then I didn't see the point as the video wouldn't change for each game. Granted some of my friends claimed the Gatekeeper would break the fourth wall to some degree, but I never believed them.

Hey Man, Nice video it was pretty funny.
But I hate to be 'that guy' you got a few things wrong in your review. Nightmare, was originally called Atmosfear. The title was changed to Nightmare when it was brought to the USA and Canada. Then when the later games were released they changed the name back to Atmosfear to keep them straight... its kinda of confusing. There is actually a huge cult following to these games that I was/is a member of. I tried to find the link for the site so I could shed a little more light on these old and classic games, but it seems the most accurate website for all the info has been shut down. Oh Well... All in all your review was quite enjoyable and can't wait to see how you review the other ones.
I think this Halloween season I might bust out my own games for a little Nightmare.

Haha!
I got this for christmas or my birthday in the early nineties.
It's still somewhere on top of my wardrobe. And guess how many times I played it? No: ONCE!
I remember the instruction manual telling you to turn the volume all the way UP on your TV set. Sucks if you forgot to turn it back down before you switched the channel after playing it (that one time). -That- would really scare the crap out of you. I'm sure that was their evil intention. Probably happened to me.
Since I'm from Germany I had the german version, the box and all was the same design but the name was "Atmosfear". The VHS was done in german too, no dubbing, it was all done with the same voice-, light- and makeup-effects just a different guy.
It was on my birthday I finally had enough friends over at the same time to force them to play it with me.
I believe for one of it's sequels there was actually a commercial on TV years later. So they must have had some kind of success with it, despide the low-to-non-existend replay value.
Wasn't the gatekeeper also rushing you at the end of the game?
Since it's been so long I could actually play it once more, ha, a game that you can play every 15-20 years. Too bad I lost all my friends that night...

Spoony, you have a board gaming club? Then you should definitely check out the podcast: "D6 Generation" (if you havn't already) They cover wargames (like warhammer) boardgames, some video games, and RPG's too. In my opinion they are among the best podcasts on the net, and they have been going strong for some time, along with their fellow podcasters in the wargamer's radio network. They're really good, pop into itunes and give them a listen

Atmosphere is what we had here in the east coast of the states. That game actually fixes a few of the things that nightmare gets wrong. Plus you can fight the other players to take their keys. Oh and that's a impressive 2nd edition box set shelf you got there. I wish I had been able to get ahold of some of those way back when.

Jaxel wrote:Hah... I used to play a ton of FMV games... as you aluded to in the video, Phantasmagoria 2 A Puzzle of Flesh was good.
But for me the best horror FMV game out there is still Shivers II: Harvest of Soulslol then you obviously dont watch spoony's reviews much cause he did a lets play of that game and hated it with a passion
