good review lee. but maybe you should have mentioned how your able to turn around and shoot the enemies behind you since thats rarely seen in shooters. i think that was a big plus to this game. and maybe what weapons you get from the different color orbs you collect. just giving my 2 cents. again, great review!

09.28.2009 - 09:38 | slayrideDead Moon was an okay shooter for the Turbo Graphx 16. The coolest thing to me is the backgrounds in the game and the fact that you can turn around and shoot enemies behind you. It just does not compare to the heavy hitters of the system though. These are mostly horizontal up-scrolling shoot-em ups. The best of the system to me was Blazing Lazers, closely followed by Super Star Soldier. Blazing Lazers has a ton of powerups and is actually pretty easy as shooters go. Super Star Soldier has better graphics and sound, but is a lot harder. Another good one was Soldier Blade, with intense graphics and sound, and an insane difficulty (never actually beat it). All three were a blast to play though. One of the weirdest vertical shooters was probably Sinistron, where you have this strange living ship with a beak. You can keep the beak closed and use it to attack enemies in melee combat, or open it up to have a spread shot, but leaving you more vulnerable to enemies. Sidearms was an awesome vertical shooter in that you could fire either backwards or forewards using either the I or II buttons much like in Dead Moon. The one game I recommend though from the TG16 shooters is Blazing Lazers.
Gaiares was awesome for Sega Genesis. Thunder Force III and Lightning Force were the other two shooters for that system that I really liked. All are vertical.

Hmm... Dead Moon. I also bought it on VC, because I always did like the Shmup Genre but never had the ability to get into it.
So overall, I think Dead Moon was okay, but not too god, the controls were a bit unprecice and the enemy's movement seemed too unorganic to me.
If I may a very good Shmup on the VC, I'd definetly go with Gate of Thunder.
You saying, DM's OST was good? Well, you'll have to think again, after listening to GoT's. ;)
