Too bad it has been unavailable for some time as RC2/PAL DVD :(

Lee, me and you are alike. I noticed the Gunsmith Cats videos when VHS were still popular and they were... expensive.
I didn't even think about them later until I noticed the DVD in Forbidden Planet.
And also on a side note, there was another OVA series (well just one) released by the same author of the manga series and before he started Gunsmith Cats, it's called Riding Bean.

1 thing i always notice in anime reviews is that its always the english dubbed version.
i hate dubs since they rarely even sound like the original voices and i refuse to watch any anime that is dubbed but luckily dvd gives viewers a choice to watch the original subbed or the dubbed version.
so it would be great to see future animereviews in their original language.
but anyways, good work like always lee.

One of my old favorite animes, and yes, the dub for this one was actually pretty good.
This coming from a guy who watched subtitles 99% of the time. In this case, dubbed just made sense though. I mean, they're in CHICAGO! What sense would it make for everyone to be speaking Japanese?
Not to say the original voice cast didn't do a good job though. Both versions were excellent.
Something to note for manga readers, the anime was really toned down.
It still has the comedic value, but some scenes were really dark.
Great review Lee.

Holy crap! I actually own the first two chapters which I picked up on VHS back in '96 when I was fourteen. The version of the first chapter I own is the Japanese dialogue with English subs "special edition" and it actually includes that 40 minute "making of" feature you mentioned. The second chapter is just a standard English dub. I'm sure they're both still in great condition since I don't think I've watched them in at least a decade. I think I'll pop on ebay and track down the third film (on VHS of course) to finally complete the set.

I loved Gunsmith Cats. It was one of the first anime series (Or OVA series as the case may be.) I ever saw growing up. I was lucky enough to have a local video rental place that has an okay (By mid '90s standards) selection of anime, and Gunsmith Cats was one of them.
ADV really was hit or miss on their dubs back in the day. I know there were several other ADV dubs growing up that were pretty darn good. Though that could be nostalgia talking.
Thanks for reviewing it. Brought back a bunch of good memories of watching other, far more horrible mid '90s and onward anime. Makes me want to go find a copy and watch it again.

Yeah, I still need to get the DVD, but I have the manga tho. I am currently wating on the next installemt Gunsmith Cats: Burst or how they call it. And yes, the artist and creator of GSC is a real gun nut and he even visited the USA a few times to look for settings and he researched a lot about weapons, how they look, how they work, when they where made etc. You can see that in the details and the talk about the weapons etc.
I can highly recommend the manga, get them while they are hot! XD

Lee, have you actually read the manga? It's definitely more adult oriented than the anime, but manages to be one of my favorite series. Bean Bandit continues to be one of my favorite manga characters.
Speaking of Bean, try watching his one episode spin-off show, "Riding Bean". Rally is a white blond chick, but is still pretty much the same character. The quality and antics are equally good to GSC. Check it out!
Where's the "game" part in this "Still Gaming" thing?
His "Snapshots" are for other media besides games.
Anyway, I've been a follower of the manga for a while, and it has some serious balls. Probably one of the best manga series I've ever read, and the OVA does the series serious justice.
My only complaint: Needed more Bean Bandit.

I apologize, but this is not going to happen unless the dub is painfully bad. You may consider that number to be at 100%, but these days the number is more like 3%.

I remember seeing the trailer for GSC. The Blockbuster video I used to go to had a ton of ADV anime in their "Special Interest" section, so those trailers were all burned into my brain since they were on every single tape. Never saw this one though. Sadface.
Was that some Time Lord theme I heard? Teehee. :D
Oh, and FOTNS FTW.
