03.27.2009 - 22:07 | Star_SagePlayed it for the Wii myself. Doesn't handle too bad, but damn those outfits. The processor doesn't do them justice, though sometimes, the swing controls get annoying. About like Star Wars: Lightsaber Battles.

I watched and/or read a couple of reviews on this game and it actually had some ideas I liked such as the berserk mode that kicks in if your characters get covered in too much blood that slowly depletes your life but doubles your power and speed. I also like how many pieces you can reduce each zombie to and the amount of blood flow in this game.
But really, this clearly has a "sex sells" mentality in mind for it's intended audience and I knew it the moment I saw a single video on Gametrailers. Frankly, I don't blame them for going this route: beat'em ups are a hard genre to make in 3-D. Makes me wonder how MadWorld, Devil May Cry, God of War, and No More Heroes managed to be successful.

I rented it, hated it, returned it the same day to rent a better game.
This game is like a hooker: Looks pretty, seems like it'd be a fun time, but will just leave you with a foul taste in your mouth and 40 dollars less in your wallet. 60 if you're horny and desperate enough to pay for additional services that the greedy @#$%& should be giving you anyway...

Like all the shallow online mags you failed to notice the actually well-developed, somewhat deep and entertaining combat system. In detail it's by far better than anything Devil May Cry 4 can dish out for example. Though mostly based on timing and reaction skills, it is the driving force behind that game, at least for people who are mature enough to pull their eyes away from the oh-so-obtrusive flesh-bombardement. >_>

Okay buddy...CORRECTION TIME! As much of this review is WRONG!
#1) The 360 game is NOT a port. It WAS, however, a first gen 360 title. Hit Japan back in 2006. Originally they were gonna skip it and just bring the Wii one, but fans complained.
#2) The content was NOT withheld from the disc. In Japan this DLC was released about a year or two after it's initial release. Yeah they planned for it (the previous 4 Oneechanbaras were really just 1 and 2 and then their expansion packs) but it was not ACTUALLY withheld from the disc.
...and what? You DIDN'T expect it to start with a shower scene? Dude. What's Aya wearing. What's the game called. Yeah, there was gonna be a shower scene.
The Wii one IS, surprisingly, better yes as it's only 1 year old rather than 3 and did include some nice upgrades for Saki. It also includes little help screens which are handy because without the guides you'd hardly know how much depth there was to the combat.
Yes I said depth. There's a surprisingly robust movelist in here actually allowing for some creative and interesting combos. Problem is just that there's no NEED to do them as you can indeed make it through the game just fine mindlessly hacking and slashing.

#1 That makes the game's graphics and glitches even less forgiving. Thanks for the fact correction and for making this game seem worse.
#2 All you've said is that the North American release didn't withhold content from the disc, but only that they... withheld content from the disc.
Thanks for helping me and the other TGWTGites think even less of the game! You're better at exposing this game's glaring flaws than I was. You rock. :silly:
I wonder if we're headed towards the dreaded "Virtual On Syndrome" with this video. Oo, I've never started one of those before.. it's a rarity for this to occur, but I think we can make it happen, people! (Regular TGWTGites can PM me for an explanation B) )

03.29.2009 - 13:52 | GELCompared to other games of the time, I think it's graphics were pretty standard. Yes it is glitchy though.
But really content was not withheld from the disc. They could have ADDED the content to the disc, yes, but more than likely that would have pissed off Japanese players or possibly the company that made it and it would probably be at least a bit tricky for a U.S. publisher/translator to incorperate the DLC onto the disc. Although I will admit they probably could have considering all the clean-up they did on both Oneechanbara and Earth Defense Force 2017. EDF2017 was ESPECIALLY cleaned up for the U.S. audiences.
I mean, I'll be honest: It IS buggy, flawed, and late but I just can't hate it. Both because I'm a massive beat 'em up fan and because of the (admittedly optional) combat depth. I look forward to further entries in the series and am glad to hear it seems to have done pretty decent over here. The Wii one shows definite progress for the series even with the issue of waggle controls (they make preforming the Zombie Heart Ripper very VERY difficult).
Yeah, of all 4 Hack N' Slash Month releases (Afro Samurai, Oneechanbara (X2), and X-Blades) I think the Oneechanbaras were my favorites.
