As for the game itself, the second I saw Vincent I just wanted to put three right in his dome. He just had that vibe of "I'm an evil, manipulative bastard and I will dick you over the second I have the chance."

Great review! I was really into the Silent Hill series in high school but I never got completely through SH3...I was busy with other things (graduating, college apps, blah) and moved away without my gaming system (idiotic!). Your reviews make me want to dig my system and game out of my folk's attic and finish it properly. Heather and Claudia seem more fascinating than I remember.

(also, while browsing iPhone app games tonight and I saw one for Golden Axe...have you tried it? I immediately thought of you and wondered if it was worth it...)

I really hated Claudia after what she did to Heather, and I couldn't completely sympathize with her after the game was over, but I came to appreciate why she did what she did. In a very real way, I think many children out there become prisoners to their parents' beliefs, sometimes for their entire lives. Claudia is definitely a compelling character, one of the best in the series.

Well, I know the line by heart by now, so it's okay. A great entry in the Game Den series, but it's kind of made me realize that SH3 was, while still a good game, just not as profound or haunting as the second one. Still totally great, Dena.

Great review so far. I love how you're going so deeply into the pathos of the story, yet not divulging the whole plot. I myself had played Silenthill 3 first in the series and worked my way backward; this was prior to having Silenthill 4 come out.
I always found it interesting that Claudia was modeled after Julian Moore.I had always thought that she had a striking resemblance to Cate Blanchett.
Well keep up the great work. It's smashing to see someone reviewing the Silenthill series with a level of care and insight that the series deserves.

The ending was kind of abrupt.

As was previously mentioned twice already, the video cut out before Vincent delivered his killer twist.

It just kinda stops mid sentence, it's like I'm watching the Sopranos.

Why did it cut out like that, right during an important moment? I don't understand the context of what was being said with it ending like that.

Edit: Actually, it just cuts out in the middle of him saying "snuff"-it's like ssssnnn...and then the video ends. I tried it twice and it actually just ends there-since no one else has complained that I see I'm guessing it's a glitch or something that's cropped up recently.

The cut could have been an error. But i think that it works even so. Doesn't it make you want to play the games in order to see what mind blowing reveal there is. So I kinda hope the abrupt ending was intentional.Really I know she is giving a review, but does she really have to show all the cards?

I knew what was coming. I only played the game once and didn't notice that it's such a twist. Mainly because I was too young by the time SH 1 came out (it was rated FSK 18 here, which is equal to rated R in the US). And when I was allowed to play it was kinda outdated and not much of interrest to me anymore (I know, that's dumb).So i wasn't really into the whole SH thing, though I later played them all. But SH 3 was the first one I played through, so I didn't quite understand the whole complexity of the series. Thanks for explaining, awesome job.

I can't even begin to describe how pissed off I was at that ending, even if it was pure genius, I fucking hated seeing it all end, or rather, not seeing it...

SH3 was the first SH I ever completed. I was surprised when everyone said it was the harder one.

Vincent was also my favorite character.

You guys do know there is a part 5 coming right? Maybe she left it as a cliff hanger for the 5th part.

I don't do these sorts of cliffhangers--I like to have each segment be somewhat stand-alone, especially since I upload them a week apart from each other.

Generally, if you see something like this, it's probably an error of some kind.

Reamer, every other part, she ends it with a "To be continued" type of thing, so it makes perfect sense to think it was a mistake in editing.

Still, up to that point, awesome video, and I have a feeling it would end soon after the quote was done. Sorry, I'll have to make it a 4/5 because of the horrible editing blunder, though, since I know now that it wasn't a random bug on my end.

Anyway, I like Vincent too. I think next to Douglas, Vincent is my second favorite character in this game. You gotta love all of his witty remarks.

Oh yes, Vincent and Claudia. Those two hate each other with a passion. I remember seeing Vincent for the first time in the unfinished building. He really creep'd me out.
