No real sound tracks I could find for Abadox, though there are a ton of soundtracks from games here http://downloads.khinsider.com/game-soundtracksI liked your 3D renders, I could never get anything to look that organic, regardless of how hard I tried.

Lets all just take a moment to thank god we won't ever have to look at yours.
It's one thing to critique a video posted on this site, but with the traffic it attracts being borderline to hardcore nerds, insulting physical characteristics of a video poster is like spitting in the wind. Attractive or not it takes balls(or guts for the women ....) to throw their faces out there for pretty much anyone to have access to. I find it rather shallow when some asshole feels the need to attack another person's self confidence. I hate to use something as overused as this, but no one is forcing you to watch these fucking videos!
Back on topic! Like others have said those renders were rather impressive for being prototypical. Regardless of them being unfinished they still look inspired. Working on them might be a very rewarding hobby, if time allows it.

08.21.2009 - 17:51 | bojak90 - Nice find Dena
A Milton Bradley game on the NES that played up the gore? AWESOME
Too bad you didn't continue work on that project; the cilia monster gave me shivers.

Very nice work as usual, Dena. I recently discovered your Game Den series, and I have to say I'm impressed.
So sue me, the first game system I ever owned was a 64, but I can still relate to some of the older games. Space shooters were always a favorite of mine. Ah, Galaga.

You would think that if your planet was eaten, the last thing you would worry about is rescuing a princess. They probably could have gone somewhere else with the story like trying to bring the planet back somehow.
Good review! I can see how that long monster could have scared you when you were young. This was before the ESRB right? Do you think that this was one of those games that made it a good idea to create the organization?

Yah, that was pretty much my thought--hell, going in there intentionally for ANY reason seems lame to me.In my version, the guy's spaceship would have been eaten by the monster and he has to find a way to rescue the ship and get everybody out of there.
Quote:This was before the ESRB right? Do you think that this was one of those games that made it a good idea to create the organization?
Definitely before the ESRB. I dunno, I think the "gore" in this game is pretty harmless, and almost cartoony, but some may disagree.

I love your renderings! Do you have any of your other stuff posted online? I am very impressed...and creeped out.
And, good review!

Nice review! I didn't knew about that game but it do resembles Gradius alright, hehehe!
Keep up the reviews they're really nice... and definitely you're not a rip-off of Still-Gaming (just sharing same still shot style
) but at least you're reviews are more detail.. and that's what I like in your reviews

I have quite the collection of TRIGUN Kuronekos. ;3 Great review/info video about Abadox.

Great video, seems like a game I'd like to check out once. Thank Lee for the horrid image of a giant parasites butt that he brought about'-_-...
The 3-d artwork was awesome, I'd like to see the cilia monster one longer though since there was that split or whatever there was about halfway in the monster itself.
-
08.21.2009 - 19:33 | Cyborcat
Yah, I just left out the split since it didn't make sense (especially with the big eyeballs at either end that can do nothing but stare at each other--WTF? =P). I would like to have added something similar (maybe a hole of some kind), but I never got around to it.

When I saw you covering this game I was delighted since this was a game I owned and I swore, I knew NO ONE who had it, nor do I remember ever seeing it in my sacred tome, Nintendo Power. I bought it with money I saved up as a kid for a birthday if I remember correct, and I got it because of the graphic art. I loved Lifeforce as a game and the box art and the back reminded me of it, so I bought it and loved it. Man this game was hard, I mean like "Silver Surfer" hard, but I adored it. Thanks a ton for reviewing this game, I was delighted

08.21.2009 - 19:32 | Cyborcat
Funny you should mention Silver Surfer--part of what made me laugh so hard at that episode is that I could equate it to Abadox, somewhat.
I even considered making a reference to that video, but decided not to.

08.21.2009 - 19:13 | Deimos1984rd
Ahh yes the frustrating yet very satisfying shooter known as Abadox. Some of the enemies used to scare me back then, By the way that is some awesome artwork and 3d rendering of the game, especially the Cillia monster.
-
08.21.2009 - 19:15 | badcop69
incredible. absolutley. the video was fab but that you know 3d studio max is what clintched it for me. keep on rockin'

Dena, the cilia monster was amazing! It's really fucking scary, amazing job.

I lol'ed at Lee's Cameo "... ...Da BUTT!"
Good video Dena. If you ever get the time, your realization of a modernized Abadox would be awesome.
-
08.21.2009 - 19:51 | Linkara
Oh, how I wish I still had a copy of 3ds Max, if only for all the effects stuff I could do now with it.
Ah, well - good stuff, Dena! ^_^
-
08.21.2009 - 19:55 | Cyborcat
3D Max is a fun program to play around with when it's not being a complete pain in the ass =P
And thanks ^.^
-
08.21.2009 - 19:52 | Lotus Prince
I love how at the end of the game you don't save your planet, but simply get it blown up instead, along with the monster.
Also, your video of the cilia monster was excellent. I definitely like how each eyeball looks at you as you pass by.
-
08.21.2009 - 19:57 | Cyborcat
Thanks--my favorite is that last one (before the tail) with how suddenly it turns and looks at you.
-
08.21.2009 - 21:32 | Lotus Prince
Yes, I definitely liked that one due to the emphasis on the drama of it being the end, as well as the extra shadows, but I also tend to look at the smaller subtle things, because I particularly like it when developers put extra effort in for things that some viewers may not even notice, just because it shows that the effort exists in the first place.
-
08.21.2009 - 20:20 | ScreamingDoom
Do I even dare ask why the alien demonic sperm were in the throat of all places?
Nice Invader Zim bits, by the way!

BAU... Barking Abominable Ugliness?
Played this back when I was 11 or so, never got past the 2nd stage so pat yourself one on the back, Dena. I just didn't had the guts to battle in the belly of the beast.
Nice 3D work! I've got a great story to go with it too. Silent Hill (the town) finally evolves into a sentient entity and goes looking for Cheryl and devours whatever city she's currently staying in. Cheryl gotta fight her way through terrifying Silent Hillish landscapes and monsters in a bid to rescue her 7 year-old daughter who's being prepped by the entity to give birth to the next "god".
Man, I got some crap ideas in my time...

That thing looked like the satellite-eating monster from Megas XLR.
-
08.21.2009 - 21:37 | NoWone - BAU!! BAU!!
Just a curiosity: "BAU" is the onomatopeic sound dogs are supposed to make here in Italy (much like your "WOOF"
. Could that be a connection?
Nice work for the show AND the rendering stuff!!
-
08.21.2009 - 22:47 | Red Bubble
You did some pretty sweet renders, Dena. I dunno if you've ever played Dead Space, but the way you described having a remake of Abadox sounded like the style of that game.
I think the concept of traveling through the insides of an evil space monster is quite the interesting concept, though. No rhyme or reason but, it's as you pointed out, a lot of visual appeal going for it.
