Never owned a Japanese PS1, if I did then I might have gotten this game but I didn't become a huge Tenchu fan until the second game (which is criminally underrated imo). For those who aren't aware, the US didn't get this game because we didn't have the level editor in our version of the first game.
I try to go back and play the older Tenchu games now and it's borderline torture how terrible those graphics are. At the time every reviewer was praising them, but I've never liked how choppy everything was. And the game was glitchy as hell, enemies being able to see you through walls and stuff like that happening. For people who didn't like the second PS2 game Fatal Shadows, go back and play the first PS1 game again... see how well your nostalgia holds up.
I still like this series even though they've had some crappy games in recent memory. The Wii game is, okay... I'll give it another go.

Hey there!
You have a great show that not only has a lot of charm, but is also very illustrative for those who aspire -or are already- import collectors. At first I thought you only did older consoles, but looking at your Pop N'Music review proved me wrong.
I remember Tenchu! That's because it was the first game I ever rented for my PSX. It was hard as hell but I somehow found a way to beat it, so it was a fun challenge too. I would have probably loved playing this game back then.
On the topic of action games, have you ever thought about reviewing "Warwolf" for the Famicom? The game is the Japanese version of Werewolf: The Last Warrior, a game that was mediocre at best due to its awful controls and difficulty. The JP version actually fixed the control issues and made it quite a challenging game! I hear the game in-box costs around ten bucks, so maybe you can give it a try? I promise it won't disappoint!
Thanks for reading! I'll be looking forward to more episodes.

To get my custom stage fix from people around the world, I played Tenchu: Shinobi Taizen for months upon months. :/
I'll probably try this one out, as I'm not really a huge Tenchu fiend, but I do love the series enough to enjoy Senran/Z, which was mediocre if you didn't have any friends to play with.
(That, and it was on a console I didn't own so I couldn't play much)
Thanks a lot for letting me discover such great imports, Jew Wario!

I loved Tenchu for PS1, and I'm sure I'd love this! Fortunately, I learned Japanese basic PS1 controls back in the day when they released demo disks with a few import trials.
Unfortunately, I don't have an imported console to check this version of the game out, aside from emulation, but that's not as good as actually owning it, but at least I know this version exists!

I was so sad. I was looking for Tenchu: Stealth Assassins, and I found Shinobi Hyakusen in the same store. I remembered you mentioned it, and immediately bought the game. When I eventually got around to wanting to play it, my PS2 said it couldn't play the disk ;.;
So I was wondering, does this require a Japanese Playstation, or just a regular PS1?
But I still want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for telling me about this one. Tenchu is my love. :D
